PLAY GOD DAY

TL 1-9 PLAY GOD DAY

1-9 GOD IS GOD

I think it’s vital to have something outside your acting to keep you rooted.  For me being a Christian has been invaluable:  It simply means acting isn’t the center of my life.  – David Oyelowo

Did you know that today is PLAY GOD DAY???  What should we do about that?  Well, my resolve is stronger than ever to pray to God with a grateful heart.

From all I’ve read, we are encouraged to try and solve a problem for a friend and make their day better and brighter.  Can I solve my friend’s problem as well as my God can?  Well, of course not.  So maybe we should tell our friends that we will pray for them and pray that God will solve their problems.  I’m all for that!

I’m at a disadvantage because I’ve not seen the movie Bruce Almighty.  Apparently this movie explores the idea of what it means to play God and what those powers should entail.  We’ve all seen movies and TV shows where someone is trying to play God.  It’s usually some scientist who holds a devious plan for creating life in a beaker or something.  As technology advances and humans delve into biology the discussions about “playing God” have become more prominent in real life.

God is not a cosmic bell boy for whom we can press a button to get things done.  – Harry Emerson Fosdick

I’m not trying to be a wet blanket, but rather I’m trying to keep us from giving advice to someone instead of taking them to the one who can really help.  I think we have all thought about the power God has and wondered why diseases are not eradicated and why small children are still hungry.  I can’t answer those questions – because God is God – and I am not.

Okay, am I the only one asking, “Is it better to point a finger at someone, or threaten to break a finger off that’s being pointed at you?”  Just sayin’…  and I won’t even go into the part about poisoning the tea and tying people up.

It seems to me today is a day to love and support each other.  Pray for one another and show true compassion for everyone.  Rather than playing God, we point others to God.  I’m comfortable with that.  🙂
