NATIONAL WALKING DAY

TL 4-6 NATIONAL WALKING DAY

WALKING

The American Heart Association (AHA) encourages us to get out and walk today!  They hope that this will begin a good habit that will last while we have good weather.

Whether you are a seasoned walker or tend to waddle like me, today is the day to get out and motivate those feet – one in front of the other – for thirty minutes.  Some can do that all at once and some like me will have to do either two fifteen minute walks or three ten minute walks.  I was so happy to read that the results are the same regardless – isn’t that great?

Exercise should be regarded as tribute to the heart.  – Gene Tunney

There are obvious benefits when you walk.  It strengthens your heart and lungs as your breathing increases, but it is good for your legs and helps define your muscles.  There are mental benefits that are almost immediate – a sense of well-being and accomplishment help you feel more positive about yourself and about other projects you tackle.  The human body was not created to sit around all the time.  You are worth a half hour of exercise every day – YOU ARE WORTH IT!

Some folks walk at our local mall every day.  I’d rather get outside to walk, but whatever helps you get started – do it!  Taking that first step in a very literal way is what matters.  It’s nice to get together with other walkers for support.  The time goes so much faster when you’re engaged in conversation along with jokes and laughter.  It’s possible to exercise alone, but it’s not as much fun.

If you are seeking creative ideas, go out walking.   Angels whisper to a man when he goes for a walk.  – Raymond Inmon

As you walk along, it’s amazing how many threads of inspiration are weaved together as you keep moving.  Most of my scathingly brilliant ideas come to me as I’m walking.  Some days I’m bombarded with creative notions just waiting to be launched.

Sometimes I take a camera with me on a walk, but that can slow me down if my goal is to realize health benefits.  A camera usually goes with me when I’m more interested in mental benefits and a little stroll.  Every bit of it helps.  Just get out and enjoy God’s creation.  It will make you feel better!  😉

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

TL A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART (20)

When I think of March 1st, a first grade band march plays in my mind by the same name.  :-/  The color green is predominant in March, and in Kansas it means we are in for some high winds!  😦  It’s not going to be too warm this month, but I’m ready to go outside more than I did in February – aren’t you?HANGING SHEETS ON THE LINE

My friend John just sent me another video – yay!!!  He’s taking a nature walk along the Little Walnut River.  There’s also a corny joke thrown in there…  well – you’ll see – LOL!!!  Oh – and I like that GREEN shirt!  🙂

http://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fyoutu.be%2FBOCpe29Re3o&h=NAQGhuZ7w

I can’t think of a better way to spend the first day of March.  We’ve all suffered a little cabin fever over the past few months – especially my friends in the eastern United States.

We’ve enjoyed a very mild winter – so far.  I say that because I remember past years when we have mild winters and think we are home free…  then get a few inches of snow in early April.  I don’t think that will happen this year as Easter is so early.  We usually don’t have snow after Easter.

John’s video has inspired me to get out and walk – how about you?  It improves every aspect of life to move around and change our surroundings once in a while.  There are even mental benefits to exercise – and that means so much.

It is the first mild day of March:
Each minute sweeter than before…
There is a blessing in the air,
Which seems a sense of joy to yield
To the bare trees, and mountains bare,
And grass in the green field…
We from to-day, my Friend, will date
The opening of the year.
Love, now an universal birth,
From heart to heart is stealing,
From earth to man, from man to earth:
—It is the hour of feeling.
– William Wordsworth (1770–1850), “To My Sister”

Have a wonderful (but windy) March!  🙂

… and meanwhile, back in Kansas – What is John Coyote up to?  Let’s take a look at his latest videos!

http://youtu.be/xlWjvaKDpGk

He said this video was taken at Little Walnut River, ten miles southeast of Augusta. Kansas.  There is a unique beauty here in Kansas – or maybe I’m just biased in my opinion – ya think?

I want today’s post to serve as a gentle reminder that we should get outdoors while we still can.  Before long the weather will be too bad and we’ll be stuck indoors – and you know what that means…  CABIN FEVER!  What will you do before the first snow of the year?

If you live in or around Kansas, you might want to take in the 16th annual Homemade Holidays Craft Show in Ottawa on November 14th.  It’s held at the Ottawa and Franklin County Visitor Information Center at 1230 S. Ash from 9am – 4pm.  I believe it’s free – (at least I saw no mention of a charge).  For more information you can call them at 785-229-8030.

Are you in the mood for some relaxing music and a bunch of friendly folks?  THIRD SATURDAY is also going on in Ottawa through December 19th when everyone in the community comes together for a fun relaxing day.

November 21st is the annual Christmas Festival and Parade of Lights in beautiful downtown Salina, Kansas.  I didn’t see what time it begins, but I’m guessing it’s around 10-ish.

The Downtown Holiday Parade in Hutchinson, Kansas is also on November 21st at 10am.  Good luck being in two places at the same time.  Why do they do that?

Kansas has a Swedish community not far from Wichita called Lindsborg.  It’s a college town and they have unique shops and restaurants.  Every Sun, Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri & Sat from November 8th – January 24th they will have the Birger Sandzen Holiday Gift Show at the Memorial Art Gallery at 401 N. First St.  For more information about that you can call them at 785-227-2220.

An evening stroll may be a little brisk these days, but in Wellington, Kansas they have the First Friday Art walk at the No. 7 Coffee House at 115 S. Washington from 5pm – 7pm.  I guess you grab a cup of their coffee to keep warm before you walk – or even while you walk – good thinking, No. 7!  For more information you can give them a call at 620-326-6777.

There’s still time to get out and go before we get stuck indoors!  These are all fun activities – but I think my friend John has the right idea – just go out and enjoy nature!  You never know what you may learn.  🙂

ROMANS 8:8 ON 8/8

TL ROMANS 8 8 ON 8 8

Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.  – Romans 8:8

DON'T GET STUCK

This portion of Scripture is fairly straight forward.  In order to honor God, we have to embrace His Word and His Way of living.  God’s Holy Word – every bit of it.

I was reading about how important it is to have proper lighting surround you when you are chatting on Skype.  It’s not a simple fix, but you can look lovely if you put forth some effort, they say.  The article went on to explain that if you position your light directly behind your gadget’s camera and place a sheet of white paper on the table, directly below your chin (which will bounce a soft glow onto your face) – then you will look really good!

How much effort are we willing to make to look good for our Heavenly Father?  Do we care if He is pleased?  Does it matter if He sees us in a flattering light?  Will we put more effort into looking good on Skype than we do in being godly?

Is anyone else saying OUCH… ???

We do tend to spend a lot of time on the external, don’t we?  If Christians (I’m pointing to myself too) would spend half the time working on the internal, how great would that be?  That’s why daily devotionals and Bible study classes are so important.  We need to have that head knowledge of God’s Word to make us wise.  We need to have that heart knowledge of God’s Word to make us strong.

Let’s have the proper lighting on board as we walk in God’s Way…  God Himself.  Before you step out into the world today, don’t forget to pray.  Ask the Lord to light your way and point you in the right direction.  Ask Him to keep you safe from harm and hold you closely.  He will honor that heart-felt prayer and protect you along life’s way.  Why?  Because He loves you, silly!  🙂

I STILL BELIEVE AS I GRIEVE

TL I STILL BELIEVE AS I GRIEVE (10)

This is a poem to encourage anyone who feels weak or faint of spirit. May God richly bless you in August! I’m praying for better days ahead.  I need to put the past behind me and strive to accomplish much in the days ahead.

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. – Philippians 4:13

This body of mine is so frail right now, but my God is so big! He made me so He will help me manage any complication that may come along. I just have to keep walking one baby step at a time. I can do ALL things with His help, right?  I’m so thankful to God that everything went well.  I could say I’m one of the lucky ones, but I don’t “do” luck. I thank my God for once again watching over me!

Since we have such a hope, we are very bold… 2 Corinthians 3:12

When I speak of boldness, it’s not a haughty kind of self-sufficient attitude. I can have a calm assurance because the Lord is taking care of me. He knows what the future holds and He holds the future, so it’s going to be ok.

I am not a has been. I am a will be. – Lauren Bacall

I believe God has a plan and a purpose for my life. I begin every day in anticipation because I know He will make something exciting of my life. He’s given me great opportunities already and He will keep opening doors for me. There’s a reason I survived this. Now I’m going to find out what it is. First I need to rest for a while.

This is a short post, but I wanted to let you know I came through surgery alright and need to recover fully.  Please continue to pray for me. I’m beginning to get stronger but I have a way to go. This will be a long row to hoe., but I’m not in the garden alone.

MEMORIAL DAY

TL MEMORIAL DAY
https://youtu.be/An8ccWB7JgQ

Memorial Day is a day of reflection. It’s a day to remember those who were once here with us but now are not. We loved them and they loved us. We know we will be reunited one day, but until then, there is a void. What would my family urge me to do? God is love and love covers a multitude of mistakes. I think they would tell me to love. Just love.

As we begin our stroll through my peaceful, serene labyrinth of love, let me ask you a question. What is the source of love? Where does it come from originally? Most of you know what my answer is. I believe that God is the true source of love, and apart from Him, you are not really able to love at all. Know God – know love. No God – no love. If you know God, then I hope you enjoy this little stroll through the labyrinth. If you do not know God, perhaps you can sit down on one of the simple wooden benches when you finish the walk to rest and get to know God. Can you hear the birds singing? The gardens surrounding this labyrinth are the most beautiful I’ve ever seen and there is not a more quiet place of solace to do a little soul-searching.

It’s such a perfect day to take a leisurely stroll. There are people on the outside who are running, but we are not. We are not going to hurry, but be deliberate with each step. There is nothing scheduled in your day that is of any importance. You won’t need a watch. Take your time and seek. Seek God and find the love He wants you to have.

Read just one section at a time. When you have read the scripture, close your eyes and think about what you just read. Let the thought of it sink in and talk to God about it. You can talk to Him out loud or just think a prayer – He hears your prayer either way. Imagine you are walking, reading, pondering and praying. Let’s begin.

Love comes from God:

1 John 4:7-8 “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

God proved His love for us:

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Romans 5:8 “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Some couples seem to be real soul mates and some are polar opposites trying to find some common ground. No matter which class your marriage falls in, we are taught what love should look like in our Christian marriages. I laughingly refer to these as the “bite your tongue” verses! There are times when love in marriage is a real bear! But for the sake of unity, peace and joy with your mate, you really do have to bite your tongue!

Love in Marriage:

Ephesians 4:2-3 “With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”

Philippians 2:2 “Complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.”

There is sure victory because of love:

Romans 8:37-39 “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

We are definitely instructed to love other people:

1 John 4:9-11 “In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”

Proverbs 17:17 “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”

“Love each other deeply with all your heart.” – 1 Peter 1:22b

And finally, we are told that we are to walk the walk of love and not just talk the talk.

Make sure the love you show is genuine:

1 John 3:18 “Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.”

Have a blessed day! ❤
