JAMES 1:26 ON 1/26

tl-1-26-james-1-26

Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.  – James 1:26

I’ve heard it preached from the pulpit my whole life – the tongue is the strongest muscle in the body – and the most deadly.  Is it just me, or are people using that little muscle more today than ever?  It seems to me that everyone wants to be heard, but nobody wants to listen!

Everyone has a RIGHT – but nobody has a RESPONSIBILITY.

A Christian is to hold their tongue – bite it to the point it bleeds at times.  I admit that it’s difficult for me to keep opinions about political views to myself, but I try to stay quiet about them.  Why?  Because God loves everyone and I don’t want something I say about matters that are not eternal or lasting that could act as a stumbling block to a person for whom Christ died.  No matter how wrong I may think they are, I have to look beyond the temporal to the spiritual.  If I start mouthing off with name-calling and so forth, who does that benefit really?  Admittedly, that may make me feel better at the moment, but God’s not pleased with that behavior.

We must learn to rein our tongue in…  it’s a spiritual discipline.  Is it easy?  Oh shoot no – but if you want people to see Christ in your life, you’d better ask yourself, what would Jesus Do (WWJD)?  I can’t imagine that my Savior would include a political endorsement in the Sermon on the Mount.  Um…  no, no not really.  Is it worth losing an opportunity to minister to a precious soul?  If you argue and get ugly, you have lost the opportunity to show Christ to them.  We belong to the Lord and we represent Him at all times.  We don’t get to wear a sign that says, “Out to lunch – be back at 1:00” so we can be more human and opinionated for a while.  And – this is true whether it’s face to face or online.  Just because you’re on facebook – that does not mean your tongue can be any less bridled.  Keep a rein on it.

If you really want to make a difference, show quiet strength.  When Rosa Parks refused to sit in the back of the bus – that was quiet strength and courage.  It was not destructive or violent…  but look at the difference that one act of defiance made – for everyone!

America demonstrated this quiet strength in the voting booth recently.  A lot of people have held their tongues – but showed up to vote.  It shocked the country – some in a good way – some in a bad way.  Regardless of what side of the political fence you sit on, we need to show respect for the office and for the man in the office…  no ands, ifs or buts.

I’m a city girl, so I’m not sure what a horse bridle actually does.  I assume, of course, that it is to control the animal, but I wanted to know exactly what it’s for.  Keep in mind that we’re to put one of these on our tongues – much like one is put on a horse to maintain control.

I’ll never have a horse or need to know this stuff…  but when applied to my tongue, it should definitely do the job.  Just kidding…  it won’t.  But – if I send thoughts through the Holy Ghost filter, as my mother referred to God’s Holy Spirit – the words that come from my mouth should be better than they would be if they came out unfiltered.

Nobody’s perfect and we all slip from time to time.  God’s forgiveness through Christ is there for those times.  I’m concerned when I hear some folks brag as they claim they have no “filter.”  They think that makes them so cool or something – when really, to my way of thinking, it makes them sad.  I’m sorry they don’t have regard for others in their comments, and I wish they knew God’s Holy Spirit and all that He could do in their life.

I hope you know God through Christ Jesus, and God’s precious Holy Spirit.  With His help, you can have a bridled tongue and His wisdom as you journey through this life.  🙂

TEN DAYS OF PRAYER FOR AMERICA

TL 7-1 THROUGH 7-10 TEN DAYS OF PRAYER FOR AMERICAINTEGRITY:  the quality or state of being of sound moral principle; uprightness, honesty, and sincerity.

As a female, Republican, conservative, Christian voter, I want to see our leadership in Washington have decency, honesty and INTEGRITY!  It begins with IN and ends with GRIT.  People with integrity are strong and courageous enough to stand against what is morally wrong.  Did you ever see the movie TRUE GRIT with John Wayne?  That kind of attitude without the whisky – sort of.  Wow…  let’s get some backbone in there mixed in with morals and values – wouldn’t that be fantastic?  I miss Ronald Reagan.  There, I got that out of my system.

SOUND MORAL PRINCIPLE.  Are we quite certain that this is what our Republican candidate has?  I don’t know, but I’m not sold on it.  Is he the lesser of two evils?  I don’t know that either.  I know for sure and for certain I will not vote for the Democratic candidate.  Will I vote at all?  I just don’t know.

Take a look at this link from Max Lucado:

https://maxlucado.com/decency-for-president/

It has occurred to me that if I don’t vote at all, I’m opening the door to the possibility that the Democrats will win.  I know our country can NOT continue its downward spiral under their agenda of redistribution of wealth and throwing other people’s money at every problem that comes down the pike.  And letting in thousands of refugees when we have homeless veterans on our streets makes me sick – literally sick.  Our vets deserve the best America has…  ugh.  Respect the veterans still living!

unknown-soldier

So today we will pray a prayer asking God for clear thinking and wisdom.  I really need it, don’t you?

Let’s pray:

Dear Heavenly Father,  We have read Your Holy Bible and we know right from wrong as we live our own lives; however, as we quickly approach November, we really need to think clearly with wisdom straight from You.  We don’t pretend to know these candidate’s hearts, values or motives.  All we can do is look at their past record of behavior.  We hunger and thirst for decency, morals, backbone, and sincere integrity.  Anyone can stand before a group of Christians and read a prepared speech filled with ear-tickling phrases that are specially written to persuade them to vote in their favor.  Lord, only You know who needs to be our next President.  We ask that You would please guide us as we decide who to vote for, or whether to vote at all.  Wisdom from You is the greatest tool in a Christian’s toolbox.  We need fresh wisdom, clear thinking, discernment, and conviction that we’re doing the right thing on election day.  We ask all of this in the precious and matchless Name of Jesus, Amen.

At this point I do want to remind you (and me too) that no matter who the President is, Jesus Christ is the KING!  As Lucinda and I chat, we are encouraged by those words, we hope you are too!  The Lord wants us to put HOLES in the Darkness!  We’re in the last days, I believe.  We know things will get more challenging, but we also know that God will protect us!

TEN DAYS OF PRAYER FOR AMERICA

TL 7-1 THROUGH 7-10 TEN DAYS OF PRAYER FOR AMERICA

ANOTHER YEAR OLDER AND GOD IS STILL STRONG

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!  HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMERICA!  You know, folks, we have a general election coming up!  We have some issues to be sure, but we have a GREAT GOD and He is listening to our prayers.  If I didn’t believe that, would I really be doing this?  Nope – I’d be raiding the fridge.

Let’s pray!

Dear Heavenly Father,  Today as we celebrate our country’s 240th birthday, we humbly come before You to say thank You for guiding America safely to this point.  You’ve kept us safe and sound thus far and we trust that You will see us through to the end.  Lord, we continue to pray for our country’s leaders.  There are too many to name individually, but we do pray You would intervene in the life of President Obama in his last days in office.  We pray for Vice President Joe Biden.  Keep Your hand on him, Lord.  Our Attorney General Loretta Lynch comes to mind, Lord.  Please guide her as she makes decisions that affect our country.  May we finally have a country where there are rights for ALL people, even Christians.  Everyone in America needs to have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  Father, may there finally be proper housing for our veterans.  It’s shameful that we open our arms to refugees but cannot provide housing for the ones who fought to ensure our safety.  Father, may someone find some common ground on the gun issue.  Please give our government wisdom about what kinds of guns we need and who should be using them.  Sometimes we are so frightened when we see the sickness and disease around us.  There’s hate and division by all sorts of methods.  Hatred by gender, economical status, social status, race, and sadly, religion.  There are people in another country who want us dead because we are Christians.  Radical Islamic terrorism is a threat to the entire world, including the U.S.A.  We’re scared, but we know, God, that this is all Your timing and we’ve read the back of the book and in the end, Father, YOU WIN!  Lord, WE THE PEOPLE ask for Your divine wisdom as we go to the voting booth in November.  Our country needs YOU.  We need Your guidance, direction and wisdom as we vote.  Holy Spirit, I personally invite You to go into that booth with me.  I ask that You help me as I make decisions about who should be in charge of America.  We love our country, Lord, but we love YOU more.  We trust You to help us through.  In Jesus’ precious and matchless Name we pray, Amen.

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

TL A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART (26)

It’s day one of the rest of my life. It’s day one of the best of my life. I’m marching on to the beat of a brand new drum ya here I come the future has begun its day one.  – Mathew West

FORTUNE COOKIE
My Fortune Cookie

What does this fortune mean?  Keep praying, America!  Today we walk toward the future as a nation…  let’s do it with our heads bowed, humbly asking God to intervene.

As government expands, liberty contracts. – Ronald Reagan

While we continue to “shop” for the GOP nominee, let’s take notes along the way and get on our knees and pray!  I will say one thing for each candidate on the debate stage:  they are all extremely strong!  To be honest, if someone slammed my looks I think I’d crawl in a hole and pull the hole in after me.  I admire Carly Fiorina so much for how she turned that rude comment – the quote by Donald Trump in “Rolling Stone” magazine – into a huge positive for American women everywhere!

LOOK AT THAT FACE…  and that RED DRESS…  power color…  you GO, girl!!!

Fiorina’s knowledge of US defense and the specifics she shared is impressive.  She said she would assure Israel that we are on their side.  I smiled big at that point.  I like what she had to say about the economy as well.  Also I appreciated that she spoke out for the defunding of Planned Parenthood.  It’s amazing when she is given the opportunity to speak how much we learn about her!

I believe Dr. Carson was less than impressive, but I did not like the type of questions CNN asked – pitting one candidate against another.  We know they are running against each other, but to purposefully pit one against another is just not cool.  It’s my belief that this sort of premeditated snarky question is not one that Dr. Carson is comfortable answering!  I would not want to answer snarky questions either.  It’s my suspicion that this is part of the reason he did not shine as he may have otherwise.

I’d rather see a debate that is really about issues instead of hearing questions like, so-and so has said such and such about you – how would you respond to that?  The way the questions were worded instantly put the respondent on the defensive.  The more time they spend defending themselves against each other, the less time they have to talk about the stuff that REALLY matters.

Call me prejudiced, but I appreciated the FOX debate so much more because the questions were not asked in a way that directly pitted one against another.  The questions had to do with policy instead of personality – and I appreciated that.

It’s not going to be an easy choice to make – so once again I encourage you to pray about this important decision.  Of course, most of us won’t get to vote until the race is narrowed down, so many folks are not paying close attention like I am.  I just happen to enjoy politics.  I know – I’m weird.  LOL!!!  :-/

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

TL A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART (13)

Every right-wing, conservative, Christian in America is praying for hope and change in 2016.  No, not the fundamental transformation of the United States, but a return to the laws already in place that have not been enforced.  What a difference it would make if they would be.

There are a cast of thousands with their respective hats in the ring.  I’m not here to tell anyone who to vote for (like you’d listen if I tried), but I’m going to try to point one blatantly obvious fact out for you, just in case you missed it.

I hope Trump will continue to run under the Republican ticket.  If he runs under a 3rd party it will divide Republicans – split the party wide open!  This not only makes me nervous going forward, but it assures that we will lose the 2016 election.  It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out.  Split the Republican party?  Yep – and it would leave the Democrats laughing at us…  saying, “divide and conquer!”  It’d be awful if the Republicans were divided.  We need to remain united.  I pray we do.

In a prideful and arrogant tone, he says he does not pray to God for guidance.  He speaks with great candor which is refreshing, however, he lacks any sort of filter (certainly not a Holy Ghost brand of filter), and that concerns me greatly.

Why does it matter?  It matters because no man should consider himself more intelligent than his maker.  If he does not seek advice from a higher power, then he obviously thinks he IS the higher power and knows all.

He’s mistaken.  I’m not trying to be ugly.  Actually I’m being just as tactful as I can be…  but the fact is, he is mistaken.  We need God in America again…  and in order to get God and His principles back in America, it would make perfect sense in my brain that a Christian should hold the office of president.  Ya think???

Regardless of his economic status, perhaps he does not realize the true scope of the problem.  No one should go around putting down their competition, boasting about how much better they are.  The last time I saw that kind of campaign, I was in elementary school.  I was running for a seat on safety patrol and my competitor told everyone that I stole Twinkies from the coat room from other lunch boxes during lunch hour.

That was totally bogus…  my mom always packed a great lunch with my own Twinkie!  It was immature, but we were kids, so…  And yeah – I lost.  LOL.  I survived.

If he really cared about the Republican party, he’d back off and cool it.  Will he run under a new ticket?  If that happens – we’re sunk.  Honestly, our party needs to get its collective act together.  I’m both mad and sad…

I have no other candidate to endorse at this point, but…  there are some fine Christian Republican candidates running…  ones who would lean on God for guidance.

As you contemplate the candidates, always remember that this is all God’s perfect timing, not ours.  In His time all things will be made known.  In His time we will be taken to heaven.  Remember to always keep Christ before you.

ALWAYS BEFORE ME

I want to encourage you not to choose a candidate to back with feelings of frustration alone.    Please pray about who you will vote for – I mean really pray about it.  Our country is at a crossroads – we need to get this RIGHT!  May God help each one of us as we do our part to regain what dignity for America we can.  🙂

ELECTION DAY

TL 11-4 ELECTION DAY

YOU CAN'T COMPLAIN IF YOU DON'T VOTE

Bad officials are elected by good citizens who do not vote.   – George Jean Nathan

Everyone in my realm of influence (it’s a small circle, believe me) seems to think their vote will not count, so they have decided not to go to the polls at all today.  All of these good people happen to be women.  Immediately I think, “So the women’s suffrage movement of the past were in vain?”

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/features/general-article/eleanor-suffrage/

I, as a woman, will not take my right to vote in the United States for granted.  What if women had not gotten the right to vote?  No, it’s my right to vote – and I will continue to vote as long as I live.  I encourage you to do the same.

There are always too many Democratic congressmen, too many Republican congressmen, and never enough U.S. congressmen.   – Author Unknown

Today’s post is not about Republican or Democrat – it’s about freedom and exercising your basic right to vote.  Sometimes we take the freedom we have for granted – we’ve all done it.  But today is the day to wake up and realize that the rights we have today could be taken away if we don’t exercise them.  It’s a lot like muscle mass – if we don’t use those free weights on a regular basis, we can become flabby and weak.

People often say that, in a democracy, decisions are made by a majority of the people.  Of course, that is not true.  Decisions are made by a majority of those who make themselves heard and who vote – a very different thing.   – Walter H. Judd

Here in Kansas we have a very interesting Senate race and if for no other reason, show up to vote for our next Senator.  That one will be a real dandy!

You KNOW how I like cakewrecks.com and this one just cracked me up!
