… where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. – Matthew 6:21
Your treasure – what you value most… and your heart, are inseparable. If your most precious treasures are the ones you can touch, those are also the ones that will one day rust or could be stolen. The things of this world will not last. Even money wears thin eventually – literally. What kind of heart do I want in 2017? I want a heart that holds eternal treasures! The hope of eternal life with Christ one day in Heaven. The peace that only my Savior gives when things in my world seem chaotic. A joy unspeakable at all times, under all circumstances. I want to know that my actions and attitudes are pleasing to God, regardless of what others may say or do.This year I want to be more of an investor and less of a collector. I want to hug fewer things to me and hug more people. I want to invest time and effort into mentoring and teaching when God opens the door of opportunity for me. I hope to keep writing this blog. I’ve gotten good feedback and interesting conversations started with it, and it’s my hope and prayer that it has uplifted and encouraged you.
The other day I was browsing in an antique store. If you ever need to be persuaded that things turn to rust and dust – just visit an antique store. I saw some old sheet music that I was afraid to handle because the paper was so delicate and frail. The collections of antiques we acquire in this life… they’re getting older every day. Even with the best of care, it’s inevitable that they will turn to rust or dust – or both.
Maybe it’s not antiques you want to collect, but brand new shiny things. Well, along with those brand new shiny things comes a different set of burdens – taxes, insurance, maintenance… shall I go on???
Riches in Christ… a heart rich with His grace, peace, love, mercy, and the fruits of God’s Holy Spirit… those are the treasures I will seek this year. That’s what I want most of all in my heart. Don’t you? 🙂
I enjoy and am enjoying the good things that come along with [aging]… Nobody can buy experience. Nobody can buy wisdom. Nobody can buy a shared history with others that you get by being relevant and engaged year upon year upon year. – Rob Lowe
Have you ever seen a cake with 54 candles on it? I know, me neither. So, there is a positive to not eating cake, huh?
I’m so thankful to God for another year of life. I received this from a friend:
Renew My Strength
Please bless Linda, for today is her birthday. Dear Lord, please protect and guide Linda as she continues along the path you’ve chosen for her. Give her the courage to follow in your light, and feel your love wherever she goes. Make her strong and give her the strength to make good decisions in the coming year. Keep her free from illness and sadness, for she is a truly good person who deserves happiness and success in all aspects of life. We know that life is like a book. With each new chapter, we learn and grow towards what you would have us be. Bless Linda now on this day, and in the future.
In your name we pray,
Isn’t that sweet? My friends mean so much to me, and kindness like that is a real treasure and uplifts my spirit!
On this day I also want to wish some other (more famous) people a very happy birthday!
Bethany Joy Lenz
Drew Van Acker
Paquita la del Barrio
Lee De Wyre
I’m in good company! And here are a few who were born on April 2nd but have passed on:
Hans Christian Andersen
I’m sure you have done this on your birthday – looked up all the famous people who share your special day. It’s fun to think about all the talented folks you share a birthday with. I wonder if I could have been famous? Oh well… I’m sure that ship has sailed – but it might have been nice.
This year I’d like to see the movie “American Sniper”. It’s time for America to see a real hero.
This picture [American Sniper] was interesting because I’m seeing it from the point of a person who was sort of an American hero… His family and his beliefs were very strong… You have to embrace his philosophy if you’re going to tell a story about him. – Clint Eastwood
Look what I had waiting for me on facebook today… Lucinda spoils me – she really does. This poem made me cry – it did.
And Lucinda, I will now give you another photo to add to your collection – LOL! This is my official RED HAT photo. No, I’m not a member of the Red Hat Society, but I sure do embrace the notion that as one ages, one must not be overly concerned about what colors do and do not go together, nor how many feathers one wears in one’s hat. Bring on the hats, the feathers, the purple and red together. I will age with grace, but I will age with an attitude that says RULES??? WHAT RULES???
Wouldn’t you love to join these wonderful women??? I sure would!
I must share a story about this photo. I found this red hat (I know it looks orange in the photo but it really is red) at the antique store. I saw it as a photo-op. I didn’t want to actually buy the hat, so I casually went into the booth and tried to hide amongst some other items so I would not be seen taking the photo.
I was almost home free… I got my camera out and was seconds away from pushing the button when I happened to glance just outside the booth and across the store – at the cutest little lady. She must have been kicking 80. I wondered if she was going to approve or disapprove of my actions – but I knew she was cool when those two little thumbs of hers turned upward and she gave me the biggest grin I’ve ever seen! I wish I had a photo of that – because it was priceless!
Opinions are like birthdays; everybody has one, and I know yours only because of facebook. @RANDILAWSON
Thank you all for the kind wishes and encouragement. I’m thankful to God for another year of life! And yes, I may have a small slice of birthday cake today – but it won’t be the cake that had 54 candles on it – lol!!! 🙂
The price of greatness is more than you want to pay. The world’s most legendary athletes are usually the ones most wildly out of balance. Michael Jordan had to crush you, whether you were an opponent or a teammate… Enjoy your heroes, but don’t envy them. – Rich Reilly
On this day in 1912, Jim Thorpe won the pentathlon at the fifth modern Olympics in Stockholm, Sweden. At the time, Thorpe, a Native American who attended Pennsylvania’s Carlisle Indian School, was only beginning to establish his reputation as the greatest all-around athlete in the world. Did he have potential – well, of course! But guess what? In God’s eyes we all have potential!
I want you not only to hear this, but to claim it. GOD LOVES YOU! He smiles on you and He wants to help you become the very best person you can be! Half of communication is listening. I’m doing my part – I’m talking (well, writing)… now, you do your part, and listen!
Because we know God loves us eternally, we know that we will be protected from harm, and we will receive special blessings from Him. He will withhold no good thing from His children. We love Him because He first loved us.
We love because he first loved us. – 1 John 4:19
In my life, the hand of God has been obvious! There are times when I get ready to speak, or rather misspeak. The Lord has been so gracious as to let me hear something or intervene in a way which would stop me from speaking. I praise Him for those private “saves” He provides! It’s happened oftentimes, and I’ve learned to speak more slowly and listen more as a result.
The many “teas” I talk about in the poem are blessings from Him. God sees so much more in me than I see in myself. Keeping this blog is a perfect example of something I would never have done without His help. I’ve been blessed beyond measure since beginning this blog! I’ve met people I would not have met otherwise and this has given me an opportunity to share my faith in God through His Son Christ.
It is the first of all problems for a man to find out what kind of work he is to do in this universe. – Thomas Carlyle
God has blessed me time and again with inspiration and purpose. I love my life because the purpose I have is not the same one every day. My purpose in life varies, at least in degree, every day. He’s given me countless opportunities to serve Him. ❤
