TEN DAYS OF PRAYER FOR AMERICA

TL 7-1 THROUGH 7-10 TEN DAYS OF PRAYER FOR AMERICA13578954_1779017349009394_92059644_nChristians know that they are only strong as long as they take the time to kneel…  in prayer to God through Christ Jesus our Lord.  We believe that the time we take to pray is the most important time spent in our day.  Would you try to drive your car out-of-state after it’s dinged at you to let you know it needs fuel?  Um…  nope.  You’d pull into a gas station and fill ‘er up!  Prayer is spiritual fuel for our souls.  It is essential for our spiritual wellbeing.  God wants to hear from us and He looks forward to hearing from us on a daily basis – for me it’s like a pray without ceasing thing…  moment by moment.  It’s how I roll…

God sees how the wheels are coming off our world.  He is also in control, so America, we need to stand as a united front to the rest of the world, and the world needs to see that we are strong and our strength comes from God.  The one true God.  There’s only one.

Let’s pray for peace and healing in America:

Dear Heavenly Father,  We acknowledge You in all our ways and humbly ask for healing and peace in America.  There is division like we’ve never seen before, but we know that You are watching and You are more than able to work on our behalf and heal our hurting land.  We know that in this life we will probably not all hold hands and sing Kum-ba-ya, but we pray that somehow You would show us how to combine Republican ideology with Democratic ideology so that somewhere we can find some real middle ground and common sense solutions to the issues we need to fix in our country.  We need Your wisdom, Your Word, and Your will to be done in our lives individually so that it will be done in our nation.  Help us to begin to heal instead of fighting more.  Please Lord, grant us Your peace and Your love in America.  Make us the people You want us to be and guide us as we remember the golden rule:  Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.  Help us to treat everyone with dignity and respect even if we disagree with them about other issues.  We want to show genuine and sincere concern for our neighbors regardless.  We can only do this perfectly with Your help everyday.  May we learn well how to sharpen iron in this journey called life.  We ask these things in the altogether lovely Name of Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior, Amen.

PHILIPPIANS 4:13 ON 4/13

PHILIPPIANS 4 13 ON 4 13

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.  – Philippians 4:13

We lose fear and gain faith every time we say this verse because of one little inclusive word – all.  Does it say we can do things only on Tuesdays and Thursdays through Christ who strengthens us?  Are there any limits whatsoever in this verse?  Does it say only men can do all things through Christ who strengthens them?  No – there are absolutely no restrictions of any kind in this verse.

When this passage says I CAN DO, it’s not necessarily talking about doing things, rather it means that Christ will give us the strength to handle the speed bumps in life.  If, however, the things you need to handle with His help involve you doing things, then that’s part of it.  Got that?  LOL…  Tim will explain.

There is a catch though.  You’re thinking, “I knew there would be a catch.”   Yeah, but it’s okay.  You have to make sure you stay connected with the source, Christ Jesus.  It’s a total deal breaker if you don’t do that.  Keep reading your Bible and praying.

Every character has an inward spring; let Christ be that spring.  Every action has a keynote; let Christ be that note, to which your whole life is attuned.   – Henry Drummond

If you feel like maybe your strength quotient is not where it needs to be, check the plug.  If you are unplugged, you will not have power – strength.  The outlet is always good, but sometimes the plug wiggles loose – and sometimes the cord frays and that’s a really bad problem to have.

We faintly hear, we dimly see,
In differing phrase we pray;
But dim or clear, we own in Him
The life, the truth, the way.
– John Greenleaf Whittier

Have you ever been afraid you’d mess something up if you jumped in and tried to lend a hand?  Well, I am a complete klutz in the kitchen.  When we joined a local Southern Baptist congregation a few years ago, they were in need of help in the kitchen on Wednesday nights, preparing the mid-week meals.  I can’t slice a tomato without cutting my finger!  My husband and I reluctantly agreed to help – and it wasn’t too bad.  I am happy to report I still have all ten of those digits (which is good because I need all of them to play the piano).

My no-nonsense mother used to say, “Make yourself useful.”  It referred to clearing the table or taking out the trash.  But as my ability to be useful expanded, so did the opportunities.  Add something to a meeting, a party, or a project.  Being useful is so widely applicable and enormously satisfying.  – Kelly Corrigan

We really cannot accomplish anything without Christ – the source – providing the strength and wisdom to us.  His ways are not only higher than our ways, but most of the time they leave me saying, “Wow, Lord – I never would have thought to do it THAT way!”  He comes up with the most creative solutions for life’s speed bumps!  Thank You, Jesus!  🙂

BIFOCALS AT THE MONITOR LIBERATION DAY

TL 12-1 BIFOCALS AT THE MONITOR LIBERATION DAY

12-1 GLASSES FOR THE MONITOR

A host of changes took place in 1994.  It was as if I was just blissfully gliding along in life and suddenly hit a brick wall!  I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, gained more weight after going on diabetes medication (that’s frustrating), and found out my thyroid was terribly low.  I felt so overwhelmed and decided it was the beginning of “getting older”.  Later in the year I went in for my annual eye exam and was told I needed bifocals.

Well – that was just IT.  I threw up my hands and welcomed age into my life.  Of course when faced with adversity – I fight back with laughter!  What else can I do?  If I don’t laugh, I will cry.  I really don’t want to cry, so…

Bifocals are tricky to say the least, especially when you first get them.  When you walk, your steps are exaggerated.  It’s funny to watch someone getting used to new bifocals.  It takes a while to learn to navigate stairs or even step up on a curb.  My heart goes out to anyone wearing bifocals for the first time – especially if they have to get used to them alone.  I’m so glad my husband was there to help me when I got mine.

I remember when I could sit at a computer monitor without eyeglasses.  I used to have to hold things very close to my face to read them clearly.   Now the opposite is true – now if I can hold things far away, I read them better.  LOL!  When did I get so old?

We want to be set free!  We want to be free from tilting our heads back and looking through the bifocal lens to read the computer  monitor or play the piano.  Ouch – my aching neck!  We honor those poor souls who suffer with neck and shoulder pain due to bifocals with BIFOCALS AT THE MONITOR LIBERATION DAY!!!

That’s a good idea – if you’re rich!  I can’t afford 3 pairs of glasses.  I do good to get one pair (I’m guessing you do too).  I came up with a solution on my own because I was so desperate to save my neck.  Our local Dollar Tree store has a few pair of full-size readers (make SURE you get full-size readers because half-size readers will force you to bend your head back to see through them).  My bifocal is about +200 so I found some full-size lenses that are that strength.  I wasn’t sure it would work – but for $1 I thought it would be worth a try.  My plan worked!   If you don’t know the strength of your bifocal, ask for a prescription from your eye doctor or ask over the phone.  They will gladly share that information with you.

Now I have the bifocal glasses I purchased from my eye doctor for everyday plus a pair of full-size readers in the strength of my bifocal – to wear at the computer and to play the piano.   While the full size reader is great for seeing a computer monitor or sheet music, I can’t see to walk or anything else, so I must have my “regular” glasses handy to put on before I get up.

Laugh it up, young people!  Your turn is coming.  LOL!  😉

It was a very inexpensive solution to a painful problem.  Hey – I’m a happy camper and no more neck pain!  Sometimes I feel like a smart cookie!  😀

Well, before things go completely downhill and get totally depressing, let’s hear some positive news!

My soul is not contained within the limits of my body; my body is contained within the limitlessness of my soul.  – Jim Carrey

It’s true!  No matter what limitations we face, the only thing holding us back is the thought that something is holding us back.   😉
