ROMANS 8:7-8 ON 8/7

TL ROMANS 8-7-8 ON 8-7

The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.  – Romans 8:7-8

Did you read this?  Okay…  now read it again slowly.  If you don’t believe there is a spiritual battleground, think again.  Each of us have a mind, and it is governed either by flesh or by the Spirit.  You may think if you’re a really GOOD PERSON that there’s no need for God’s power in your life.

You cannot govern your own mind for the long haul.  If you are not giving God control, then your mind is governed by the flesh, and you are hostile to God, His laws, His way of thinking and His wonderful plan for your life.  What may have you missed out on by not letting God guide you?  Hmm…  there’s a thought.ASK GOD TO BE YOUR POTTER

Have you ever spent time watching REELZ?  It’s about celebrities and their real lives.  Their drama extends beyond the silver screen.  I think that’s putting it kindly…  these people are so good at acting because they get plenty of practice being dramatic in real life!  I’m sure their acting jobs could seem boring compared to their real lives in some cases.

I don’t embrace drama.  I don’t want drama in my life.  I can enjoy a dramatic film once in a while, but when it comes to my real life, I want simplicity and I don’t want my mind governed by the flesh.  I want God’s guidance, His law and His wisdom.

When I was a girl growing up, they called it “walking the fence.”  It’s when people think they can keep one foot in the world and one foot in the spiritual realm.  And yes, I’ve heard the saying, “So heaven minded they’re of no earthly good.”  That happened to be a favorite saying of one of my least favorite aunts.  She has since passed, and I wonder if she’s changed her way of thinking?  I can’t say for sure, but there’s no evidence that she died in the Lord.  She accomplished a great deal here on this earth, but what good is it doing her now?

I believe I’d rather stay in God’s good graces and have the world think I’m worthless than to have the world think I’m amazing and have God think I’m worthless.  We all walk a different path and will make the decision for ourselves…  I can’t decide for you and you can’t decide for me.  That’s the beauty of having a personal relationship with Christ Jesus – it’s personal.  That doesn’t mean you just hug it and keep it to yourself and say “I’m saved and that’s all that matters.”  There is a command given to us –  God wants us to GO and TELL…  Reach out and Teach wherever we are planted.  Share with others and care about their circumstances.  Pray for others and stay tuned for updates.  I won’t walk in the flesh because God’s way is higher and better – free of stress or drama.

This is the verse I wanted to share with you today.  I pray that you will consider a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

I’m not being nosey…  I’m being exactly what I’m supposed to be.  🙂

Have your questions ready for the authors.  These talented folks and their writing inspire me continually and I know you enjoy their work too.  God has blessed them with such depth in their writing – it is undeniable that it comes from the Holy Spirit of God.  Isn’t God good to give such talent, and they in turn share it with us?

I know today’s post is quite short (uncharacteristic for me, huh?)  I do have last-minute arrangements to make that will assure the party goes smoothly.

In addition to learning about the authors, we will be sharing some tea trivia along the way as well as great recipes for scones and other goodies that go great with your favorite hot tea.  It’ll be great – we will celebrate the last days of NATIONAL HOT TEA MONTH and chat with these talented Christian authors.

There’s still time to RSVP – friend me on facebook to receive an invitation:

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

TL COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART (21)

Doing good things enriches the soul.  – Dustin James

There was a young lady standing by the roadside in 10 degree weather.  She was holding a sign that said “Homeless – anything helps.”  Dustin was prompted to go to a nearby Dunkin’ Donuts to buy her a cup of coffee.  He said the look on her face was priceless.

Each one of us is God’s special work of art… a painting like no other in all of time.  – Joni Earreckson Tada

The Bible tells us that we may be entertaining angels unaware.  How many times do we cross paths with angels, but miss the opportunity to entertain them because we are too self-absorbed or think we have no time?  We’ve all seen people standing by the side of the road with signs.  We’re scared to stop or to get involved because there really are some evil people in the world who use that as a rouse to attract others for their own evil purposes.

The conversation goes like this…  “I’d help, but if you give them money, they’ll just go buy cigs or booze or something like that.”  That sounds weak to me.

There are smart ways to help others…

If I’m impressed to meet a need, I make sure my husband is close by and I don’t give anyone cash.  I ask what the need is – if it’s a meal, I’ll buy it – if it’s gasoline for their car, I’ll buy it.  That’s how we give – we provide the need at hand to help them along their way.

Sometimes the person isn’t standing there with a sign.  One Thanksgiving we were at a restaurant.  When the waitress came to take our order, I felt a nudging from God’s Holy Spirit.  I didn’t know what her issue was, but God did and that’s all that matters.  We’ll never know if what we did helped, but we trust that God helped her through her issues.

WHERE JESUS IS HEARD

When God’s Holy Spirit impresses on you to act – you act – it’s as simple as that.  I believe that He guides me quite literally through my life and lets me know when I need to help someone – and He also lets me know when I need to walk away from someone.  God’s Spirit keeps me safe and helps me live the kind of life that is pleasing to Him.  I don’t apologize for my lifestyle.  I believe it’s the best life a person can choose to live.

I was so encouraged when I read Dustin’s story today.  I pray that we all stop to see the signs that others are holding up – whether they are literally holding a sign up or not.  May we be more sensitive to the leading of God’s Holy Spirit in 2016.  ❤

PREPARE YE THE WAY OF THE LORD

TL 12-1 PREPARE YE THE WAY OF THE LORDOn the third day ‘fore Christmas we will pray for Wisdom in decisions, patience with each other, forgiveness for our sins, give praise for His love, love for one another, joy to share with others, peace in our hearts and thank God for His amazing grace!  Whew…  I had to take a breath about halfway into that – how about you?TEN DAYS FORE CHRISTMASPardon me if I refer to my mom too much, but she’s my frame of reference (let’s face it, I had a lifetime of mom-isms, didn’t I???)  Mom used to tell me that wisdom from God comes with a free Holy Ghost filter – that’s the filter that many in the world today brag about NOT having…  sadly.  Did you ever think you’d live to see the day when people would brag about just talking off the cuff with no filter???  I know, me neither.  😦

Do you ever think that poor decision-making can lead to poor circumstance outcome?  I know people don’t want us to link the two, but I think that if God is leading in your life, your life will be better than if He isn’t.  He will either be LORD OF ALL – or He won’t be LORD AT ALL.  God helps us make wise decisions if we ask for His help.  He’s never going to forsake His own.  If you belong to Him, lift up your head because you will be helped.

The Magi were called Wise Men.  Why did God want the most wise on earth to visit the Christ Child?  Wise Men – and also the most poor and most uneducated – the Shepherds.  I believe it’s because Christ came for EVERYONE – wise, unwise, educated, uneducated, rich, poor, young, old…  there are literally NO barriers – and no excuses – why anyone should not consider the Christ Child at Christmas.

WISE MEN STILL SEEK HIMHow should you seek Him?  There is no cut-and-dried method, but here’s what I would suggest.  Find a Bible.  If you don’t have a Bible, there are online resources you can use.  My favorite is https://www.biblegateway.com/

I like it because there is a verse of the day.  If you want some encouragement to light up your day, subscribe!  Pray for wisdom from God and begin reading His Holy Word.  He will help you – trust me!  🙂

PREPARE YE THE WAY OF THE LORD

TL 12-1 PREPARE YE THE WAY OF THE LORDOh boy…  fasten your seatbelt – it’s going to be a bumpy ride…  because today we are praying for PATIENCE.  Hey…  don’t complain to me – it’s Lucinda’s poem!  I’ve always heard that you should never pray for patience because you will surely get tested on…  PATIENCE.  Sigh.  So…

On this fourth day ‘fore Christmas we will pray for patience with each other, forgiveness for our sins, give praise for His love, love for one another, joy to share with others, peace in our hearts and thank God for His amazing grace.  TEN DAYS FORE CHRISTMAS

I suppose praying for patience with each other is a very important part of preparing for Christmas.  Most of us are uneasy about the prayer “fall-out” that occurs, but we’ll survive that with God’s help, won’t we?  It’s our hope to come out shining like gold.  We should at least learn a lesson along the way.ONE DOORThis is our belief…  and we know that not everyone shares it.  When it comes to patience, it is tested sorely when we encounter a non-believer.  We just love God so much and believe so strongly in Christ and want others to believe too – when that doesn’t happen, our level of patience – or tolerance is stretched.  We need to learn how to back away slowly and pray for people when they refuse Christ – for whatever reason.

We need to remember that it’s not our job to save everyone.  We need to share – but it’s not our job to change hearts.  Pray and leave it alone.  God will do His job in His time.  Don’t take it as a failure.  Trust that God will work with the seed you’ve planted – and be patient with the non-believer.  We don’t know where they’re coming from, but we know that God knows where they’re coming from.  Just pray and let God do the rest.  Practice patience with others and pray for it without ceasing.  🙂

ROMANS 11:29 ON 11/29

TL 11-29 ROMANS 11-29 ON 11-29

For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.  – Romans 11:29

There are tangible gifts that God gives us for a season – gifts that are not eternal, but temporary – we don’t understand why we have to lose these gifts / blessings, but we have to accept God’s plan and know that He will sustain us no matter what.

Paul has looked through a telescope to get a glimpse of just how big God is, and he invites us to take a look for ourselves.  The gifts in this verse are not tangible, they are special and spiritual gifts from God – His free grace, having to do with the spiritual and eternal welfare of the souls of men.  Once we accept Christ into our hearts and lives, these things are ours for eternity and will never be taken from us – they are without repentance – immutable and unalterable.  God will never revoke them or take them away from us once we’ve accepted them.  Why?  Because God never changes and He is faithful to love and care for His own at all times.  There are no degrees or shadow of distinction.  His grace stands immovable and reliable.

Because God’s will is sovereign and He never changes – we can rest in and rely on His promises.

How many things are reliable in this world?  Not many…  in this life people make promises and often don’t keep them.

God’s call on your life is forever – He will never take it back.  The gifts and abilities that God gave you are yours to use for Him.

Once you walk through the door of Salvation, you belong to God for eternity.  He will never sever that relationship with you.

Walk through the door, shutting the door behind you.  Use your God-given talents and abilities to glorify your heavenly Father.  He will help you find a ministry if you ask Him.  🙂

NATIONAL BUNDT PAN DAY

TL 11-15 NATIONAL BUNDT PAN DAY

Some of my favorite food comes from a Bundt pan!  I worked with a sweet lady who brought monkey bread for every special occasion.  I think we made up special occasions just so we could eat monkey bread!

Of course, that was before I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 1994.  Things have changed in my diet significantly since then!  But I can still write about monkey bread and all sorts of goodies without my blood glucose being affected – and that’s a good thing!

I like what Lucinda has to say about monkey bread – for sure!  🙂

Don’t you particularly appreciate the last stanza of her poem?  I sure do!  I’m so thankful that God sticks close by my side and that His angels watch over us as we live our everyday lives.  It’s great to know that He has every life situation under control – even when we wonder if it is under control – ya know?  😉

Here’s a traditional recipe for monkey bread – ooey gooey and sticky good!

https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pillsbury.com%2Frecipes%2Fpumpkin-spice-monkey-bread-with-caramel-sauce%2F23feb2bf-d28d-48db-b57f-077fc47c0dcb&h=OAQEaHsOb

Here’s an alternate recipe that cuts a whopping 300 calories per serving and saves on sodium as well – I think you’ll like it.  One note I will add – I never use sugar, as you know.  I always use Splenda and Splenda brown sugar.  You can use it cup for cup – just use it as you would sugar.

http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/monkey-bread-0

For 234 calories per serving, you can afford to splurge a bit today!  I would guess it would be even fewer calories if you use the Splenda sugars.

You know, one thing my mother taught me was that when we bake for someone, we’re really showing them love!  There are so many ways of telling someone you love them – and that’s why we call comfort food – well…  comfort food!  Share some monkey bread with a friend or loved one today – along with God’s love!

Hopefully you will have an opportunity to make one of these great recipes today – and use that Bundt pan that’s been setting in the cupboard for such a long time – feeling all neglected and sad.  😦
