NATIONAL STATIC ELECTRICITY DAY

TL 1-9 NATIONAL STATIC ELECTRICITY DAY

1-9 STUCK BY STATIC

Fear is static that prevents me from hearing myself.   – Samuel Butler

It’s NATIONAL STATIC ELECTRICITY DAY!!!  Trust me, (the one with baby-fine blonde hair…), I’m well aware of the effects of static electricity!  At my birthday parties, my friends thought it was funny to rub a balloon on the carpet and hold it above my head – just to see my hair magically FLY…  well, what are friends for?  Positive and negative forces, huh?  Well, the positive force was making my hair stick to the balloon…  but the negative force was when I punched their arms for doing it.  Wait…  did I type that out loud???  Oops!  Well, that’s ok – I hit like a girl!

I can usually explain things after researching them – usually.  If you need a scientific explanation for static, I can’t provide that.  I read and understood for the most part, but just in case I don’t understand completely, I’ll just leave some links for you to visit – how about that?

When I was a kid in the 1970’s, we watched these movies in science class – and my friends and I had more fun critiquing the men’s wardrobe and horn-rimmed glasses than learning anything about science.  Fortunately, now I’m mature enough to appreciate the actual subject now – well, sort of.  😉

OK, now that we’ve taken care of the technical stuff, can we get down to the FUN stuff?  Thank you!

We do have fun with static, but can these experiments relate at all in real life?  I think we can learn a lesson from them.  You knew I’d say that, right?

If you can’t hear the angels, try quieting the static of worry.  – Terri Guillemets

Some days we feel stuck in life because of fear and worry.  These best friends always travel together.  They are used in an effort to emotionally blackmail God’s children by the enemy of the soul – Satan.  I don’t like to waste a lot of my precious time talking about him or his sneaky ways, but it’s good to know when you’re getting spiritually stuck – and where the static is coming from – or more to the point, from whom it is coming.

If I mess up and I fear doing it again, that could paralyze me.  That in itself makes me feel miserable enough, but  if I begin to worry about messing up again, I’m nearly defeated.  Do you see what I’m saying?  It’s a cycle –  a vicious, pointless, waste of time.  But, if Satan can make us waste enough time beating ourselves up, he’s keeping us from doing good for others and serving God.  That’s worth his time.

Enough about the negative – what do we do about this cycle that has the potential to defeat us?  Pray the pain, fear and worry away!  Ask God’s Holy Spirit to remind you of who you are – in HIM – not who you are compared to another pianist, or another writer, or another Sunday School teacher.  Ask Him to remind you once again who you are – in HIM?  If you do that, He will remind you that you are HIS.  You are His very special creation – not because you have certain abilities or talents – those came from HIM to begin with!  He wants you to know you are His child and He loves you.  That puts everything back in its proper perspective.

It’s just a little observation from the one with baby-fine blonde hair that is easily affected by static electricity.  If you don’t want any spiritual static to hold you back this year, pray about what makes you hurt, scared and worried.  When you do, it will leave you because your Lord is bigger than either of these.  He really is! 😀

Here’s an hour of hymns…  there’s no time like the present to ask God who you are – in HIM – through Jesus Christ, His Son.  Take time to pray then enjoy the rest of the day.  ❤

1 CORINTHIANS 10:13 ON 10/13

TL 1 CORINTHIANS 10 13 ON 10 13

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.  – 1 Corinthians 10:13

I think we get mixed up sometimes when we talk about trials and temptations.  In the spiritual realm, who is doing what???  Who’s on first, as it were… ???

A trial puts our faith and patience in action and yes, trials are from God to make us stronger.  If we were never given trials, we would be soft and sappy and we’d never know just how much God means to us.  Trials are not fun, but we know that God is faithful through them and that He will make a way for us.

This verse speaks of temptations – and those are not from God.  The enemy of our soul brings temptations to us – it seems they are constantly in front of us.  Temptations come in so many ways and sometimes we don’t even recognize them for what they are – because let’s face it – the enemy of our soul is good at what he does.

If you’re sitting down – GET UP!!!  It’s time to do our exercises!  This will help your physical health, but it will help your spiritual health too!  🙂

… and if the devil doesn’t like it, he can SIT ON A TACK…  OUCH!  Ah – I love that song, don’t you?

The devil is sneaky…  to put it mildly.  He offers solicitation to that which is evil, and hence Satan is called “the tempter” (Matthew 4:3).  He tempted Christ in this way in the wilderness.  That temptation was not internal, but by a real, active, subtle being.  Why did Jesus have to endure that temptation?  It was an act of obedience on His part.  I’m thankful it was recorded in the Bible because it shows me that no matter what ol’ split-hoof puts before me, with God’s help, through my Savior, Jesus Christ, I can overcome it.

Temptation is common to all, as this Scripture reminds us – other passages mention it as well (Daniel 12:10, Psalm 66:10, Luke 22:31 & 40, Hebrews 11:17, James 1:12 & 1 Peter 1:7).  Is it a big deal?  Ya think???  YES – temptation is a big deal and it is common to all.  We are human beings living on this earth and we will be tempted.  We’re not in trouble for being tempted – we’re in trouble when we submit to it and subsequently sin against God.

Does God give us a pass on sin just because we are exposed to temptation every day?  The Apostle Paul would say, “Heaven forbid!”  No!  God’s people are to be on their watch against temptations.  We are told that if we resist the devil, he will flee.  If we tell Satan to leave in the Name of Christ Jesus…  he can’t stick around.

So while we will be tempted time and again…  there is a way of escape in the Name of Christ!  Speak HIS Name in the face of the enemy and He has to flee.  In the Name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, I command you to leave now, devil!  🙂

LUKE 8:12 ON 8/12

TL LUKE 8 12 ON 8 12

Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.  The ones along the path are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved.  And the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy. But these have no root; they believe for a while, and in time of testing fall away.  And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature.  As for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patience.  –  Luke 8:11-15

GET THEE BEHIND ME

The Parable of the Sower shows us how we are to receive the Word of God effectively.  When the seed hits the soil of your soul, are you moved to action, or do you just shake it off and go about your business?

  • A person with a hard heart is hardened by sin and considered one with hard ground.  Satan plucks the message away which keeps the heart dull and prevents God’s Word from making a serious impression.
  • A person who professes delight with God’s Word, yet does not have a heart that has changed is considered stony ground.  When trouble comes along, faith wavers and quickly disappears.
  • A person who seems to receive God’s Word, but whose heart is full of riches, pleasures and lusts has no time for Bible study because these other things are more fun.  This is thorny ground and it is certainly not considered a rich soil.
  • A person who not only reads God’s Word, but allows it to sink in and prays that God will be alive and working inside.  This is good ground and is the truly saved one because there is evidence in this person’s life and lifestyle.  It’s pleasing to God and honors Him.

To hear it is not enough.  It’s important to know the Word of God.  We can read it, but it’s a lot like the image we see in the mirror.  If you take a quick glance in that mirror, you will soon forget whether your hair looked combed or not.  When we take the time to study God’s Holy Word, we will know it.  We want to know it, because that is what God wants us to do. If we walk along and merely hear the Word of God, we are more susceptible to the devil’s schemes.  Nobody puts a spin on things better than he does!  He can make us believe his lies and call them gospel truth. We see it in our world today. The devil is so sneaky and whispers lies such as God doesn’t really care about you, or if God really did care, He would do something about things.  If you are experiencing serious doubts about these types of things, don’t keep listening to the devil’s deceitful lies.  Open your Bible and read it for yourself.  God will never put a spin on anything and He certainly will not lie to you – ever!  🙂

PURPLE HEART DAY

TL 8-8 PURPLE HEART DAY

8-8 TEMPTATION'S TUNNELOn this day in 1782, in Newburgh, New York, General George Washington, the commander-in-chief of the Continental Army, created the “Badge for Military Merit,” a decoration consisting of a purple, heart-shaped piece of silk, edged with a narrow binding of silver, with the word Merit stitched across the face in silver. The badge was to be presented to soldiers for “any singularly meritorious action” and permitted its wearer to pass guards and sentinels without challenge. The honoree’s name and regiment were also to be inscribed in a “Book of Merit”.

Today I overcame temptation and wanted someone to award me with the purple heart (or something similar).  This morning I was standing at the counter in Starbuck’s looking at all the really great espresso and lattes on the menu board. I was tempted to order something other than the tall skinny mocha latte I usually get.

Here is my thought process: For nearly FIVE YEARS I have tried to be good with my diet to support my husband on his diet. But guess what? I am here at Starbuck’s and I am all alone. If I did order something more yummy than the tall skinny mocha latte – he would never have to know about it! What harm would it do? I’m the only one that would have to know!

Then my brain paused and I caught a glimpse of my reflection (profile – eek!) in the shiny glass where they keep all the decadent pastries and things – and it dawned on me. I would know. Me – and my size 16 petite jeans that I fought so hard to get into… we would know.

I’ve not had to buy women’s sizes for almost 3 years. I’ve exercised myself silly and eaten healthy and for just a moment I thought I could sneak in a 500 calorie beverage. I was tempted.

Did I sin? Praise God – NO, I did not sin! See, those “temptation tunnels” are costly! There is a toll you pay before you enter in. And – if you make a choice to go in, it gets more and more difficult to turn around in there – the passage gets more narrow and darker as you go. You aren’t aware it’s going to do that (you think Satan’s going to tell you?). You just think it’s a tunnel and you’ll go through and come out on the other side into just as much sunlight as there was when you went in.

That’s not how it works. Think twice before you pay the toll and go into that tunnel. God loves you and He will help you out if you’re stuck. There’s no other way out but through Him. Pray and ask God through Christ to help you. He wants to make a way for you.

Some people think that freedom would be choosing the 500 calorie beverage. I think the REAL freedom is choosing the right – choosing FOR MYSELF – what I know is best for me. I choose the skinny mocha latte, not because I’m forced to choose it, but because it is the best choice. I choose to follow Christ because He has my best interest in mind and HE keeps me safe and away from the tunnel of temptation. Praise His Name!  I don’t really need the Purple Heart – I just need God to keep helping me do the right thing. 🙂
