A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

TL A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART (28)Garage sales are EXHAUSTING!!!  We’re in the midst of a community-wide sale right now.  My husband and I are just ready for it to be over…  we’re so tired.  I think the part I hate the most is digging around in the recesses of my closets for items that I wasn’t aware I owned because they’ve never been used or worn or whatever.  Have you ever seen a bamboo pole with a back scratcher on one end and a shoe horn on the other end?  Well, me neither…  but I apparently had one!  I say I HAD one because I sold it today – I no longer have it.  It can go live in the recesses of someone else’s closet for a while.

It’s a lot of work, but at the same time it’s a bit like taking a deep cleansing breath of cool mountain air.  After being surrounded by what can only be categorized as JUNK for over ten years, I’m now free to buy new STUFF to replace the old JUNK.  Of course, in another ten years that STUFF I buy now will be considered JUNK.  And so the cycle continues…

It’s fun and keeps us out of prison.

I’ll be honest, along with the work of gathering the junk, tagging the junk and organizing the junk – there is a huge sigh of relief when you have finally SOLD the junk.  When we counted up our earnings today, I looked at my husband and said, “It would have taken me two weeks working full time to make this much!”  It’s a sort of high when you see how quickly the pile of dough stacks up.

Of course, the other side of that high is the trip back to reality – when you realize you sold two recliners and now must replace them with two others – from somewhere.  It’s fun to sit on an orange crate to watch TV – for about a day.  The novelty has worn off and I really need to get myself in gear and get a new chair.

Here’s a chair similar to the one I want:

_35It’s selling on eBay for $300.  I can probably do that.  I’m not sure.  Has anyone heard of the brand POUNDEX?  See…  sometimes if I don’t recognize the brand name, I’m like…  um…  but the price is definitely not bad.  I don’t know – I’ll keep lookin’.  I like to actually sit in a recliner before I buy it – I’m funny that way.

Garage sales are exhausting – but there are rewards to follow.  We just think about the rewards.  Alrighty then…  I’m gonna go soak my feet.  🙂

LAUGH & GET RICH DAY

TL 2-8 LAUGH & GET RICH DAY

It’s LAUGH AND GET RICH DAY!!!

Some people do laugh all the way to the bank – we all hold on to the hope that one day we will be able to enjoy what we do for a living, be able to laugh and watch our bank accounts grow by leaps and bounds.

Laugh and Get Rich is a 1931 movie – an amusing little tale.

http://www.veoh.com/watch/v58245742shHKHm4d

I was inches away from saying NO WAY to this writing challenge.  It sounded utterly ridiculous and unreasonable.  Then as I thought more about it, I realized that sometimes riches are not measured in dollars.  I don’t receive money when I laugh, do you?  Maybe a stand-up comedian does because they make others laugh for a living, but most of us are not financially compensated for laughing.

Here’s a guy who is definitely compensated for laughing – and do you know how wealthy people laugh???  Yeah, I didn’t know it either – but here it is:

http://youtu.be/EffPnse4WQs

Well that’s why I’m not wealthy – I don’t know how to laugh like that.  I’m glad someone explained it to me – wink!  😉  To be honest, a Scripture popped into my mind as I was watching that – Ecclesiastes 7:6.

OK – back to reality.  The thought of hope kept coming back to me.  Where does that hope come from?  It comes from God.  We pray that God will improve our circumstances and give us a happier countenance as we go through life.  He helps us every day whether it is through education, promotion, or direct inspiration.

It’s very sad when people think they have achieved these things by themselves – they refer to themselves as “self-made” when they are being molded into what God wants them to be.  If you have a gift or talent for something, that came from God.  You may have had to take classes to hone it, but the basic gift is from God.

Therefore humble yourselves +[demote, lower yourselves in your own estimation+] under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you…  – 1 Peter 5:6

In this day and age, laughing is not heard as much as it used to be.  There are terrorists running around committing horrible acts, showing no mercy whatsoever.  They cannot be reasoned with and there is talk that it could come to our country.  Yes, I know God has this in His control – but I’m not laughing and it is scary.  Every day I pray for a speedy end to this threat.

When we find ourselves laughing at something these days, we should count it as a blessing.  Maybe the fact that we’re laughing at all is the reward.  Maybe those moments that we are happy ARE the reward.   No, we don’t laugh all the way to the bank, but God gives us a reason to smile and laugh and be happy.  That is good enough for me.

What makes you happy makes you rich.  – Russian Proverb

Money for laughter might make me too vain.  Too much money makes your laugh change from genuine to fake.  I’d rather keep my real laugh and not have the wealth.  🙂

An Enriched New Year

TL 1-1 HAPPY NEW YEAR

I CHOOSE

The word HAPPY is so over-used and under-effective to my way of thinking. Happiness does not hold a candle to JOY, and real JOY comes from GOD! Some people share my opinion and will tell you to have a BLESSED New Year. Sadly, I think the word BLESSED is getting over-used as well.

Here is my greeting: Have an ENRICHED New Year and may God grant you wisdom in all situations and make crystal clear what all of your options are so that you can choose the best one.

For every bad decision we make in life, there is most certainly a consequence that goes along with it. But to put a positive truth out there, for every good decision we make in life, there is most certainly a reward that goes along with it. I choose the good, the right, the best. I want God’s very best in my life. I pray you do the same.

I look ahead with a calm assurance that God will work in my life this year! He knows my dreams and only He knows how the timing will come together. I know when I need to know, and I’m okay with that. I trust God to help me achieve my goals. He is never a disappointment to me and He never will be.

Every man should be born again on the first day of January. Start with a fresh page. Take up one hole more in the buckle if necessary, or let down one, according to circumstances; but on the first of January let every man gird himself once more, with his face to the front, and take no interest in the things that were and are past.  – Henry Ward Beecher

The decision to let go of the reins and let God do the driving is not easy for some people. There are some Christian control freaks, believe me! Most of them do not like the saying, “Let go and let God…” in the least. When they don’t ask God ahead of time and make the wrong decision, they wonder why they are not receiving God’s best. But if you do not ask for God’s help, He will just let you wander around aimlessly, relying on your own compass. When you finally learn that you are not omnipotent or omnipresent, but God is – then you begin to understand the real reason it might be a better choice to seek His direction before you begin walking.

Have you prayed this New Year? Some people pray the new year in, and I believe that is the most powerful and positive way to assure that you have an enriched new year! Humbly bow before your God and seek His face. Seek His direction for your life. But don’t stop seeking at midnight New Year’s Eve. Seek Him in prayer every day of the year. What a difference you will notice in every aspect of your life.

Some people will have a happy new year, but happiness does not last. Some people will have a blessed new year, but if they do not want to relinquish control, it may not be as blessed as they hope it will be.

I choose to pray and seek God’s direction every day of this new year, how about you?

MERRY CHRISTMAS

TL MERRY CHRISTMASA CHRISTMAS EMBRACE

God keeps His promises. People on this earth make and break promises every day. Children of God who earnestly seek Him and want to lean on Him are known as righteous. Seeking a righteous lifestyle brings eternal rewards from our Lord. He is not a man so He will never lie. He has never broken one promise and He never will. There are Biblical accounts of God’s precious promises and how those promises were fulfilled.

One in particular is only eleven verses long. The short story begins in the 25th verse of the 2nd chapter of the book of Luke in God’s Word, The Holy Bible. A righteous man named Simeon was promised by the Holy Spirit of God that he would not die before he had seen Christ. He was rewarded for his righteous life. He did see Christ at the temple courts.

Verses 28-32 tell us that Simeon took Him (baby Jesus) in his arms and praised God, saying:

Sovereign Lord, as You have promised, You now dismiss Your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen Your salvation, which You have prepared in the sight of all people, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to Your people Israel.

Then in verses 34-35 we are told that Simeon blessed the father and mother. Then he said,

This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.

At Christmas I not only celebrate the birth of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, but I look forward to the second and final coming of this same Christ! With the same Holy Spirit infilling that Simeon had, I feel a great deal of anticipation in my soul about the time when God turns to His Son and tells Him it’s time to whisk us all up and take us home. I’m ready and I hope you are too! ❤
