A SUMMER OF PSALMS

I challenge you to name one thing in this world that never changes.  Time’s up!  Did you think of anything?  No, you didn’t – neither did I.  Everything changes…  EVERYTHING!  The foal in the photograph above is now a beautiful full-grown mare.  Living beings are born, they thrive and do what God intended, then they die and go back to God.  It’s the way God planned it.  The Bible tells us that our time is in HIS hand.  So you see, we don’t need to worry because God has us in His hand all the time.

God never changes.  His laws don’t change.  His justice doesn’t change.  His unending love never changes.  His peace is real.  The joy and happiness He bestows on our lives can only be described as dependable.  It’s honest and there’s no hidden agenda.  If He puts a rug on the floor in front of me, then asks me to stand on it, I know without a doubt He will not pull it out from under me, causing me to fall.  Can you say that about any person on this earth?  Get real – of course, you can’t!

This body of mine has changed from the time I was in my twenties.  Anyone who is honest will say a great big AMEN to that!  These chan.ges are a huge challenge – but God’s got me, so I’ve got this!

Changes are inevitable in this life, but it gets dangerous when we as people try to “overrule” God.  Do we rely on our wisdom more than we seek God’s laws?  We simply cannot say that some behaviors are not sinful when God has already said they are.

When pastors are motivational speakers instead of providing instruction and direction according to God’s Word, it’s not a favor to us poor sinners – any of us.  We all need to hear and know God’s truth – all of it.  I don’t hate anyone and care for everyone’s eternal soul.  For Pete’s sake, I’m not perfect and I don’t judge anyone.  God offers redemption for ALL through His Son’s death on Calvary’s cross.  He offers forgiveness for sin – any sin – take your pick.  They’re all alike in God’s eyes.

Change.  God causes the seasons to change.  He helps sinners to change.  We find Christ, learn what He wants for us, and turn from whatever is not pleasing in His sight.  He patiently helps us to live a life that is pleasing to Him.  Our lives can be so rich and full of Christ when He’s in the center of it.  🙂

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

I look forward to spring for so many reasons, but I think my favorite one is that we will start grilling hamburgers outdoors!  I don’t mind turning the stove on when it’s cold outside because it heats up the kitchen; however, in the spring and summer I’d rather not cook indoors because, well, it heats up the kitchen.

How many hamburgers do you eat at one time?  There’s no right or wrong answer – it’s not a trick question.  The calorie police are all at the donut shop – so don’t weigh your answer.  Be honest – do you have one hamburger, or maybe a few?  What is your portion of ground beef on a bun?

I’m a career dieter…  that is, I’ve been on one meal plan or the other since I was about five years old.  I was the poster child to represent the one who could not climb the rope in P.E. class.  I’ve learned lessons through the years – the primary one being – you must use portion control when you eat anything – no matter what diet you follow.

When it comes to spiritual portions…  there’s never too much of God’s Spirit!  I’ll tell you, if I eat too many hamburgers (or anything, for that matter), it will show up fairly quickly.  When I depend on God to be my portion – every moment of every day…  it shows up also, but in a positive way!  He is so faithful to me, and I depend on His love and kindness to renew my soul – over and over again.

It’s taken a lifetime, but I’ve learned to rely less on the portion control in a diet, and more on the PORTION that is the Holy Spirit of God.  I’m not as quick to pick up a cupcake to deal with stress like I used to.  I choose to take a deep breath and seek God when I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed.  It’s His will for my life – and it’s a healthy and good way to deal with stress.  The Lord is my portion…  and there are no calories or carbohydrates to count.  🙂

NO DIRTY DISHES DAY

TL 5-18 NO DIRTY DISHES DAY

Today is NO DIRTY DISHES DAY!!! This is the perfect day to begin your own “appetite check”.

Have you ever found that you reach for food instead of reaching for that which can do you the most good – God’s Word?  Boy, I sure have!  It doesn’t take long to have a little quiet time with God every day instead of grabbing a second cup of coffee in the morning.  Try to take just a few minutes with your Bible and a good devotional book. Be still before Him and listen to what God wants to say to you.  Once you become refreshed and renewed in your spirit, that gives you the energy to pay it forward – to refresh someone else’s spirit (which refreshes yours all over again).  You can’t out-give God, and when it comes to the blessings He bestows on you – that is especially true!

It only takes a short time to get a Word from your heavenly Father, but the impact it can have not only on you, but on those you come in contact with, can make all the difference!  It’s amazing what just a few encouraging words on facebook can do to help somebody have a better day.  Maybe just helping a member of your own family with something will get them off to a good start.  Find somebody to refresh after God has refreshed your spirit with His Word.

If the Holy Spirit prompts you to Write a little note to a friend, do so.  Make a phone call or offer to help someone in some way as you are inspired to.  Above all else, do not keep the blessing to yourself.  As the Holy Spirit refreshes you – go and refresh someone else!  Don’t be so consumed with your own world that you don’t see the need outside your window – or even those in your own home.  Depression begins when people get too introspective.  They begin to see just their own little world – and it is a small place.  If you ask God to help you get your mind off of your own food issues and put it on the needs around you, He will honor that prayer.  He will make known to you what needs to be done for whom.  It’s your job to heed the nudging of the Holy Spirit and obey.

Others have food issues just like you.  How great would it be if we all came out of our little shells and actually united and began to refresh one another as brothers and sisters in Christ?  That would start the best wave of healing ever, wouldn’t it?  With tools like facebook, we can make that happen – the question is no longer “what if we could”?  Now, the question is “why are we not”?

Let’s let the Holy Spirit refresh our spirit – then go refresh others struggling with food addictions around us.  We need to help one another with strength from encouraging words.  Who can you refresh today? 😀

NO HOUSEWORK DAY

TL 4-7 NO HOUSEWORK DAY

https://youtu.be/QKwhJg6rozw
You have my permission to take the day off from housework! It is NO HOUSEWORK DAY, a great day to get outside and enjoy yourself. Ride your bike, wash your car, take a leisurely walk or take your dog to the park. Whatever you decide to do, make sure you take a deep cleansing breath and make a mental note – “I’m relaxing today!”

Some people say we make our own happiness – and I have mixed feelings on the subject. I believe God directs my path, but yes, I have a free will and can choose the activities I take part in. To that extent, I most certainly can decide whether I will take a break from work or not.

My second favorite household chore is ironing. My first being hitting my head on the top bunk bed until I faint. – Erma Bombeck

I’ve said time and again, I choose happiness! It is a decision I made a long time ago. Observing these wacky holidays and writing about them every day is part of my choice to be happy. See, I think it’s difficult to find a good reason to get out of bed in the morning sometimes. As strange as it sounds, these wacky holidays give me something to look forward to every day!

Check out this cute poem written by Lucinda Berry Hill:
4-7 A NO HOUSEWORK DAY
Some of the wacky days are really off the wall – but I think they are fun and I have enjoyed celebrating them – and celebrating life! Too many people fail to celebrate little things – and we all know that it’s the little things that make life worth living.

A towel-folding tutorial for men everywhere.  LOL!!!

Today I’m just going to read a book or watch a DVD or – hey, work on my blog! But I will under no circumstances do anything that resembles housework. This chick’s had it – at least for today.  Wink!  😉
