FLIP-FLOP DAY

TL 6-17 FLIP FLOP DAY

HAPPY FEELIN' FEET

This won’t be a long post because frankly, YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO!  Today is the day to show off that great pedicure with your favorite flip flops!  Summer doesn’t begin officially until the 21st, but wearing your flip-flops lets everyone know you are ready and waiting for hot weather and cool pools.

Go to the beach and stick your toes in the sand…  sounds great, doesn’t it?  At the very least we need to get away from all the horrific events that have taken place in recent days.  Run away from the television, radio, computer and any other media source.  I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m so sick of hearing about politics in this election year – as well as shootings and other sad situations reported in the news lately.

Get out of the house – and get away today!  I know that people my age used to call these thongs, but trust me…  don’t do that – thong is wrong, wrong, wrong.  They’re flip-flops and we won’t discuss thongs here.  Um…  no.  😉

DAY TRIPPIN’ AROUND KANSAS

DAY TRIPPIN' AROUND KANSAS

Ah…  we had so much fun today!  I need to share.  While the country focuses its attention on the Republican debate, we decided to go to our KANSAS STATE FAIR in Hutchinson, KS.

I made a little photo journal…  I hope you enjoy it!  Have FUN!

WELSH RAREBIT DAY

TL 9-3 WELSH RAREBIT DAY

9-3 SUMMER SONSHINE FROM THE STEEPLE

It’s so tempting to miss church and enjoy a Sunday at the lake, isn’t it? After all, we rationalize, God made this wonderful creation and it would be a shame not to be outside enjoying it! Believe me, I do understand the rationale all too well.

How strange that Nature does not knock, and yet does not intrude! – Emily Dickinson, letter to Mrs. J.S. Cooper, 1880

Nature is kind and considerate. It does not say or do anything that may upset us and does not care what we do. There are moments when being in a beautiful place on God’s earth is the perfect balm for what ails us.  Being outdoors should certainly be part of our everyday activities. When I taught the Kindergarten Sunday School class a few years ago, I made it a regular part of our lesson plan to go on “nature walks” where the children would find the most unusual things! When a child brings you a gift, you have to act like it is the greatest thing ever. That was easier at some times than others.

If we can remember to invite nature’s sun into our lives to provide relaxation and rest, and God’s Son into our lives to provide instruction, discipline, as well as peace and rest, we have a good formula for life!

Don’t deny yourself of fellowship with other believers.  Some of the most interesting moments of my life happened in the church.  I got to try Welsh Rarebit at a women’s church breakfast one time.  Today just happens to be WELSH RAREBIT DAY!!!  It’s akin to cheese on toast, but is made with cheese and sauce with Worcestershire and different spices.   It was served as a sort of fondue with a poached egg on top.  The name is believed to be a jest at the expense of the 18th Century poor of Wales.

As we enjoy the last few weeks of Summer, let’s take a good look at our SUN / SON ratio. ❤

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

TL A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART (20)

ALL THINGS NEW

Do you have favorite passages in the Bible? You may be surprised at what mine is. Obviously I am amazed and so very grateful for the death, burial and resurrection of Christ, but there are Words in my Bible that make me cry:

And the evening and the morning were the first day. – Genesis 1:5

And the evening and the morning were the second day. – Genesis 1:8

And the evening and the morning were the third day. – Genesis 1:13

And the evening and the morning were the fourth day. – Genesis 1:19

And the evening and the morning were the fifth day. – Genesis 1:23

And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. – Genesis 1:31

And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it He had rested from all His work which God created and made. – Genesis 2:3

Without even thinking about how much work God did, let’s just consider the fact that He didn’t do it all at once. His creation was not just thrown together like something my Aunt Mary would make in her Kitchen Aid mixer! He took time and it was a complete labor of LOVE. If you ever wonder just how much the Father loves you, read through the story of creation!

Don’t just skip over the parts that explain that God was done for that day. I’m glad those passages are included! God worked – He worked very hard for a time. Then He did what? Well, by day seven, He blessed the day and declared that it was to be a day of REST. It’s a day of renewal and relaxation.

By renewal and relaxation He did not intend it to be the day to do the laundry. In our day we see rest and relaxation as something weak or something that makes people lazy. If we aren’t running around trying to text and drive or push a shopping cart with the phone cradled on our shoulder – or better yet – a Bluetooth gadget on our ear – then we’re considered uncool and lazy. Hmm… you know what??? I’m not joining the masses on those things!

Renewal is so important to overall health and wellbeing! Rest every night – good deep sleep is part of what keeps our cells healthy. Our bodies need rest – we were made to rest at night! Pay attention to nature and the newness of Spring! Look at the story of creation. God rested. If GOD rested, what makes us think we don’t have to? :-/

WEAR PURPLE FOR PEACE DAY

TL 5-16 WEAR PURPLE FOR PEACE DAY

Wear purple for world peace. This is WEAR PURPLE FOR PEACE DAY!!! Inner Peace brings with it the thought of relaxation. Here are some effective relaxation therapies:

BREATHING.  Well, that is certainly helpful, isn’t it?  Breathing exercises have taught me how to breathe correctly to relieve my stress.  The technique is simple (believe me, if it was complicated, I wouldn’t do it).  You place one hand on your chest and the other on your abdomen.  Take a slow, deep breath, taking in as much air as possible.  Your abdomen should press against your hand.  Hold that breath in for a few seconds, then slowly exhale.

VISUAL IMAGING. Basically this technique uses body awareness to do relaxation. Imagine being in a peaceful, restful place (your “happy place”). Now focus on different physical sensations, but not necessarily just painful areas. Everyone imagines differently, but I would not recommend an image of a banana split for someone who is trying to lose weight! Don’t sabotage your efforts like that.

PROGRESSIVE MUSCLE RELAXATION. This therapy is one of my favorites. It was just recently developed for people suffering with peripheral diabetic neuropathy. The idea is to flex the painful area then hold it briefly. Relax it, slowly easing the tension. I make this fun by drawing the alphabet with my foot. The movement seems to ease the pain a bit. By the time I get to the letter “Z”, I do usually feel better. I’ve actually been drawing the alphabet with my foot as I write this post. Can I multi-task, or WHAT???

CHRISTIAN POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS.  There are many CD’s available to listen to on You Tube that provide positive thoughts for Christians.  These are Scripture-based and give us support as it seems the world has gotten more crazy.

Did you catch all of that?  Don’t worry – your subconscious did!

Pray for peace as we approach the last days.  Remember this is all God’s timing and we just need to hang on to Him.  🙂
