Make us worthy, Lord, to serve those people throughout the world who live and die in poverty and hunger. Give them through our hands, this day, their daily bread, and by our understanding love, give them peace and Joy. Amen   – Mother Teresa

The International House of Prayer in Kansas City is hosting a day of prayer in December for the poor and suffering around the world and those who are giving their lives to helping them.  Please plan to join us for part or all of the solemn assembly. Get more info here: http://www.ihopkc.org

This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.  – Psalm 34:6

What is Christmas all about?  One of my friends reminded me recently that it is not his birthday, but the birthday of Christ Jesus.  If we can keep it in perspective and teach little ones that lesson, it honors God.  Today I invite you to join me in prayer for those who are less fortunate.  We do what we can to help, but in addition to helping physically, we pray.

O GOD, Almighty and merciful, who heals those that are broken in heart, and turns the sadness of the sorrowful to joy; Let Your Fatherly goodness be upon all that You have made. Remember in pity those who are this day destitute, homeless, or forgotten by their fellow-men. Bless the congregation of Your poor. Uplift those who are cast down. For those who suffer innocently, I pray that You will sanctify their endurance of the wrongs worked on them, keeping their hearts free of bitterness. Cheer with hope all discouraged and unhappy people, and help those who are tempted into sin by their poverty; though they be troubled on every side, suffer them not to be distressed; though they be perplexed, save them from despair. Grant this, O Lord, for the love of Him, who for our sakes endured poverty and blameless suffering, Your Son, our Jesus Christ.  It’s in His Name we pray, Amen.

He will regard the prayer of the destitute, and not despise their prayer.  – Psalm 102:17

We pray because we know our Lord hears us.  I hope you’ll join me and pray too!  ❤

THANKSGIVING DAY

TL THANKSGIVING

(11) HAPPY THANKSGIVING FROM THE STEEPLE

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.  – Psalm 95:2

What is Mel thankful for?  Well, God healed him of terminal leukemia in 1998, so it’s obvious that he is very thankful for life.  He’s also thankful for the Holy Ghost.  He’s thankful for another day to praise God for His goodness!

How many ways can we thank God for all the blessings He has bestowed on us?

If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, “thank you,” that would suffice.  – Meister Eckhart

Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High.  – Psalm 50:14

Thanks be to God for all the miraculous deeds He has done in my life.  I don’t know why He is so good to me, but I’m sure glad He is!

God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today. Have you used one to say “thank you?”  – William A. Ward

What would Thanksgiving be without Charlie Brown.  Put on your jammies and fuzzy socks.  Grab your favorite snack and watch this cute cartoon with me.

That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works.  –  Psalm 26:7

This day and every day I will lift my hands to the heavens and praise the Lord for all the many blessings He has bestowed on me.

As each day comes to us refreshed and anew, so does my gratitude renew itself daily. The breaking of the sun over the horizon is my grateful heart dawning upon a blessed world.   – Terri Guillemets

This is a cute little song –  you’ll be singing this all day!  You’re welcome.  😉

I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.  – Psalm 69:30

Shine Your everlasting light in my perpetual darkness, heavenly Father.  May everything I do be for Your honor and Your glory, for there is no other reason to do anything I do.

For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.
– Ralph Waldo Emerson

I’ve made Monkey Bread in the past, but this Apple Monkey Bread looks so delicious!  I’m always thankful for the food on Thanksgiving Day – aren’t you?

I’m thankful for food, shelter, love of friends and family and Charlie Brown cartoons around the holidays.  All of these things bring to mind happy times of the past and provide hope for the future.  I hope you will take some time today to let your friends and family know how much you love them.  Take time to let God know you love Him too.  ❤

IRON SHARPENS IRON… FRIENDSHIP

IRON SHARPENS IRON

I'M AN ODD PUZZLE PIECE
Where would I be without those crazy people in my life I know as my friends? Loneliness is not a path that anyone should walk. Being alone is not all it’s cracked up to be.

The friends I bond with the fastest are the ones who relate to the road I’ve walked. It’s just natural that like-minded people become fast friends. Sometimes I think it’s sad that we have bonded because of awful situations we’ve faced, but there’s a sort of healing that takes place when you realize that the worst is over. The scars will never go away, and maybe that is a good thing. The scars keep us more wise for future choices and help us not make the same mistakes again. But knowing that someone knows and understands where you’ve been, and is there to help you get to where you want to go – is priceless.

Who is at the center of all relationships?  Christ, of course.

Who can know God’s counsel,
or who can conceive what the LORD intends?
For the deliberations of mortals are timid,
and unsure are our plans.
For the corruptible body burdens the soul
and the earthen shelter weighs down the mind that has many concerns.
And scarce do we guess the things on earth,
and what is within our grasp we find with difficulty;
but when things are in heaven, who can search them out?
Or who ever knew your counsel, except you had given wisdom
and sent your holy spirit from on high?
And thus were the paths of those on earth made straight.  – Psalm 90:3-4, 5-6, 12-13, 14-17

As I look at my group of friends and see God’s Hand in those relationships, it occurs to me that when my friends are going through rough times, I am usually sailing in relatively calm waters. When the storms of life and raging on me, my friends are usually sailing along just fine. We really do need each other for love and prayer support. That’s what friends do for each other.  It’s that iron sharpening thing.  Who is our best friend?

It’s my prayer that the poems or blog posts I write will speak to someone and encourage them. When God impresses me to write something, I don’t question it – I just write. He knows who needs to read it and He will work with them through it. I believe that if you have stumbled upon this little blog, it is not an accident. God leads us where He wants us to go!

HAPPY PILLS
Oh – and… pass the HAPPY PILLS! We share those too, don’t we???   Wink!  😉
