JANUARY 18-24 IS NATIONAL BIBLE WEEK

TL JANUARY 18-24 2016 IS NATIONAL BIBLE WEEKMY BIBLEBIBLE HUGSNOT JUST A BOOK

A BOOK WITH PROMISE

Have you hugged your Bible lately?  We should be hugging it every day as we have devotionals – but I get it…  life gets busy.  The year is young, so isn’t this the perfect time to get back in the swing – the habit – of daily devotionals with the LORD?  He’s so patient with us, isn’t He?

Since this is National Bible Week, I thought a few passages of Scripture for this new year may be appropriate.  Here we go!

May the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ be blessed! On account of his vast mercy, he has given us new birth. You have been born anew into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.  – 1 Peter 1:3
Don’t remember the prior things; don’t ponder ancient history. Look! I’m doing a new thing; now it sprouts up; don’t you recognize it? I’m making a way in the desert, paths in the wilderness.  – Isaiah 43:18-19
I believe that the present suffering is nothing compared to the coming glory that is going to be revealed to us.   – Romans 8:38
Certainly the faithful love of the Lord hasn’t ended; certainly God’s compassion isn’t through! They are renewed every morning. Great is your faithfulness.  – Lamentations 3:22-23
Then the one seated on the throne said, “Look! I’m making all things new.” He also said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”  – Revelation 21:5

Look among the nations and watch! Be astonished and stare because something is happening in your days that you wouldn’t believe even if told.  – Habakkuk 1:5

Sing to the Lord a new song because he has done wonderful things! His own strong hand and his own holy arm have won the victory!  – Psalm 98:1

I will give them a single heart, and I will put a new spirit in them. I will remove the stony hearts from their bodies and give them hearts of flesh.  – Ezekiel 11:19

May God richly bless you as you study His Word in 2016!  🙂

PROVERBS 9:1 ON 9/1

TL PROVERBS 9 1 ON 9 1

Wisdom has built her house; she has set up its seven pillars.  – Proverbs 9:1

The wisdom of God is in the person of Christ Jesus.  He has prepared a church with patriarchs, prophets, apostles, pastors and teachers.  Have you ever heard the phrase “A pillar of the community” – ?  In the Southern Baptist church there are deacons.  In the Nazarene church there is a church board.  Every denomination has some degree of organization – they have to.  It’s definitely a good idea and based on biblical principles.

The church is built on Christ.  Christ Jesus is God’s wisdom.  If we claim Christ as our personal Savior, we have access to wisdom through the Holy Spirit of God.  Where is wisdom for decision-making found?  On our knees.  It’s that simple.

So much of the non-stop drama and less than enviable circumstances in life are self-inflicted.  How insane is that?  We just keep making the same bad decisions while expecting a better outcome!  When are we going to humble ourselves before God and seek His wisdom in decision-making?  What is it going to take?

EAR TICKLING PROMISES

Today I want to encourage you to pray about the upcoming 2016 election.  So many Republicans are angry and see one candidate as the one who will make all the frustration disappear.  But my Christian brothers and sisters, please temper all that frustration you feel with wisdom from God’s Holy Spirit.  I believe what we are hearing from this frontrunner is some ear tickling with little substance or common sense.

Don’t we want a president who will seek wisdom from God the Father regarding all of the decisions that must be made on behalf of our country?  I do not want a president who is so self-sufficient that he can or will not seek godly counsel or pray to the Father for direction.

There are many godly men running for office, some of them are not career politicians either.  I guess it’s not secret, I’m hoping and praying for a Cruz/Carson or Carson/Cruz ticket.  I believe they would take our country in the right direction.

I hear people say they won’t even think about the 2016 race until the choices get narrowed down.  I have an idea for us, though.  I think we should be praying about it now.  Who’s with me?

You know a little prayer for God’s wisdom never hurt.  🙂

GENESIS 8:21 ON 8/21

TL GENESIS 8 21 ON 8 21

The LORD smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: “Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done.”  – Genesis 8:21

When Noah, his family and the animals got off the ark, Noah built an altar to praise God – and God was not angry with human kind anymore.   The anger at sin which had caused the flood was now over, and there was peace between heaven and earth.

As a sign of God’s remarkable promise to mankind, He gave us the rainbow.

A promise from God along with a sign

I love the rainbow, don’t you?  When you see it, are you reminded of God’s promise to us?  His promise to keep loving us and not destroying the earth again is important.

The rainbow is really represents God’s covenant with His creation.  It’s in the sky after a storm to remind us that He will never again destroy His creation.  We should be most grateful that we’ve been spared and God desires to draw us unto Himself instead of do away with us.

HE IS FAITHFUL

He is hopeful that we will want to draw closer to Him through His Son, Jesus Christ.  He sent Christ to earth to die on the cross – the lamb of God washes away the sins of the world.  We only have to believe and ask Jesus into our hearts and lives.

You don’t have to fix anything, just ask Jesus to come into your life and He will show you your sin and what needs fixing – and He will help you with it.  People can’t fix other people’s sin because we are not a higher power – but Christ can fix sin because He is THE Higher power!  He’s worthy of all our honor and praise.  🙂

PALM SUNDAY

TL PALM SUNDAY

When I think of Palm Sunday, I’m reminded of years past when I taught children’s Sunday School.  There is usually a children’s program scheduled on this day that consists of kids of all ages waving palm branches and singing songs of praise to Jesus.

You may think that we teachers just stand up there coaxing the children to sing louder because we have nothing better to do.  Sorry to disappoint you, but as teachers, we hope and pray that the seemingly ritualistic Palm Sunday children’s program stays with the kids and that they will remember the meaning behind it.

We also hope that something in the presentation will soften the hearts of the parents and help them to come back to a solid relationship with the Lord.  As teachers, we hope and we pray that our efforts will be blessed by God and produce results.  Palm Sunday children’s programs are a seed-planting mission of sorts.  That’s why we practice those songs over and over (and over…)  sigh.

We teach the children simple songs like “Jesus Loves Me” because we want them to remember throughout their lives that no matter what happens, they have a Savior who loves them and wants them to lean completely on Him every day – to keep them safe and help them make good decisions.

HIS LAST WEEK ON EARTH

What are the benefits of becoming a Christian?  Let’s review…  the miracle of the feeding of the 5,000 is a perfect example of how God provides for His own.  We never have to worry about being left alone or lonely.  Our needs – all of them – are supplied every day.  We see the hand of God all the time.

We give, but we will never out-give our Father in heaven.  His limitless resources are ours if we will just ask.  He has provided His Holy Spirit to protect and guide us.  He has promised us a home in heaven where streets are pure gold and gates are made of pearl.  Down here we see gold as so precious, but God uses it to make the streets!  I mean, if that doesn’t give you some perspective…

He promises us a mansion – again, something that people spend years saving and sacrificing to buy on this earth – is just given to those who call Christ Lord once this life is over.  I’ve got it on good authority that we won’t even have to mow or trim the lawn either – no maintenance with this mansion.  No property taxes…  that alone – well – it’s a good thing.  You might say…  it’s HEAVEN.

Angels singing and no more night because we won’t have to sleep – we will have new bodies that won’t get tired.  They won’t have chronic illness or joints that wear out.  There will be no Alzheimer’s, no Diabetes, no Parkinson’s or any other affliction in heaven – it will all be behind us and we can just be with the LORD forever.

You can’t see me (and I can’t prove it), but I’m waving my palm branch today for KING JESUS.  I’m thanking Him for all the promises that He has made, has kept, and will keep in the future.  He is worthy of our praise.  Hail King Jesus!  ❤

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

TL A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART (28)

OVERTHINKING IT
Have you ever over thought over thinking? LOL! Well, maybe not, but on high pain days or bad blood sugar days it’s easy to over think things! As a young woman I hardly got a cold, but now it feels as though I’m falling apart some days. If I’m having an extremely bad day, it can feel downright unfair.

My mother died ten years ago today. I know some people don’t remember dates like that, but I can’t help but remember. Grief is a large weight, even after such a long time. I don’t weep like I used to, but these days the sorrow comes out of the blue. I was walking around an antique store and spotted a set of bowls that my mother had.

ab3e5b70d2bd3b69a8fab3e344081718
The largest one was a bright yellow (maybe that’s why it’s my favorite color), the bowls nested inside one another. I didn’t keep my mom’s set of bowls (you can’t hang on to everything) but seeing them brought back memories of cookie-baking, pie-baking and great conversations with my mom. Those bowls made me smile – and cry. Sounds strange – how can I do both? I don’t know – but I can.

What does our Lord want us to do when we are weary and heavy laden?

We cannot find life’s treasure if we’re rushing here and there, chasing shadows through the clouds and beating at the air, draw apart, be still and pray when weary and hard pressed. “Come unto Me” the Master said, “and I will give you rest.” – David Catherwood

Through the physical pain and mental anguish of life we have a Savior with open arms, ready to hold us and speak peace to our hearts and minds. He promises to give us rest if we will draw apart, be still and pray.

Today I will go to my prayer closet to pray. Jesus will meet me there.

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART 35

TODAY

The sweetest marriage proposal ever.

Life with your spouse is too short for harboring anger, resentment or regret. The issues that seemed worth arguing about when your marriage was young are suddenly not that important as the years go by. With age comes a sort of commitment and a settled feeling. You begin to really live every day to its fullest and enjoy it together.

I dreamed of a wedding of elaborate elegance,
A church filled with family and friends.
I asked him what kind of wedding he wished for,
He said one that would make me his wife.
– Author Unknown

Men are typically not into the actual wedding ceremony. My husband was no exception. The details were up to me. We had a blue and yellow wedding and I wore a blue dress with a yellow daisy corsage. If you were to ask him what colors we used in our wedding, I’m guessing he could not tell you. But that’s ok. That’s the way God made men and He made women to be very choosy and detail-oriented. Our wedding was simple – no frills. And as I watch the many “bloopers” on YouTube, I think that was a good idea!

We had our vows renewed on our 20th anniversary at Silver Dollar City. I think that was the nicest surprise he could have given me! It meant so much to know that he would marry me all over again.

There’s an old joke that is not all that funny where the husband tells the wife, “I told you I loved you when I married you – if things change, I’ll let you know.” Epic fail, guys! Your woman needs to hear it – every day! It’s not a matter of us being insecure about our relationship, but it’s more of an affirmation. I can only speak for myself, but when my husband tells me he loves me, it makes me want to try harder and it makes me smile for a really long time! There is nothing like hearing your husband tell you out loud that he loves you. He shows me every day by his actions – but hearing it… that is wonderful!

Two people for life – and God’s Holy Spirit in the middle just loving and caring for us. ❤
