A SUMMER OF PSALMS

God will never change and He will never fail!  His loving-kindness is the same always!  Do you trust Him today?

When you see or hear the letters OJ, what comes to mind?  I can honestly say that ORANGE JUICE used to pop into my mind.  To some sports fans, or true crime drama fans, the name O.J. Simpson may pop to mind; however, may I introduce you to another option?  How about…

ONLY JESUS!?!

Isn’t that a great poem?  Only Jesus will do when I rise, or when I’m resting, or when I’m working!  Only Jesus will do when I’m speaking, or when I’m writing, or when I need true wisdom!  We tend to distance ourselves from everyone when we’re sick or when we’re hurting, but even if we pull away from friends and family, those are times when we need to draw closer to our Lord.

We need Jesus to keep us strong and encouraged when we are crying, or singing, or praying.  The Lord gives us words to say when we pray.  He understands those prayers that are not intelligible by anyone else.  Those prayers that are just groans, because the physical pain or mental hurt we feel is so horrible.

I love this poem!  What a blessing to have this lovely lady in my life!  Her work blesses me every day!

You know, so many people ask me if I think it matters to the Lord whether we have devotional time early in the morning or late at night.  I tell them I don’t think it’s a command that we have devotionals in the morning; however, it really is a great way to begin your day.  Personally, I think it’s best in the morning because I see my life as a living sacrifice and I want to offer first fruits.  I want God to come first and this is part of putting Him first in my life.  🙂

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

I love this!  If you belong to the Lord and you know He hears and answers your prayers, why would we see God in the shadow of our problems instead of seeing our problems in the light of God’s power???  Today’s post will hopefully serve as a faith booster.  Just as we need boosters for some vaccines, we need faith boosters along the way.

We are God’s chosen and He will hear and answer our prayers.  The Lord’s people will not be ignored.  David was king by divine decree, and we are the Lord’s elect in the same manner.  Never be afraid to ask God to defend you when enemies threaten to overthrow your soul.  There is power from God that He gives us when we pray and seek His face.  When we are on our knees and at our weakest, that’s when God’s strength takes over and we become inspired and filled with faith.

The way we look at our problems matters to God.  He wants us to consider His awesome power and the magnitude of it first – and see the LIGHT of God’s power before we look at our problem.  So many times, we look at our problems and of course they seem so huge – and we doubt God’s ability to fix it, so the problem seems to overshadow the power of God.  We all know that a problem can cast a large shadow, but we need to practice seeing the larger light of God’s power through our eyes of faith.

Problems make shadows.  Shadows are dark and creepy, not to mention depressing.  It takes zero faith to focus on problems.  Everyone has them, but only those who are set apart for God know that they don’t have to make their problems the main thought in their mind.  We have faith that God’s light and power are working in our lives.  When we hand our problems to Him – we know that God is working it all out.  Does that sound like something that is depressing?  Nope – it’s the opposite – that would be the JOY of the Lord…  the joy that the world doesn’t understand.  I’m so glad I know it – and I hope you do too.  Love, peace, mercy, grace and JOY from God.  I’ll take it!  🙂

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.  – John 3:8

Ah…  the wind.  We love wind here in Kansas, especially in March!  We were recently on the highway heading for Yoder, Kansas – with wind gusting at record speeds.  We were heading for an elevated bridge and there was a very large truck literally weaving from one lane to the other as we came closer to the bridge.  My husband wisely said, “I think I’ll just stay back here until we clear that bridge.”  Smart guy.  I was going to suggest it, but I don’t like to be a backseat driver… turns out I didn’t have to be an annoying and nagging wife.  kansas

The gift of the Holy Spirit of God is the most precious blessing the Lord gave us.  He is our Comforter, our Light, our Peace, our Love, and it’s only with His help we can have the good fruits in our lives.  Those would be the fruits we find in Galatians:galatians-5-22

These are the characteristics we lean on God’s Spirit to help us achieve.  There’s no way to do it on your own – many try.  It’s so much easier to just stop leaning on your own understanding and lean on God’s wisdom every minute of every day.  As situations crop up, just pray – instead of going into panic mode or fix it mode – take a few seconds (trust me, that’s all it takes) to just whisper a prayer.  It’s amazing how much easier things are after you hand them to the Father.

I LOVE this poem Lucinda wrote called THE TUG.

I found this original song on You Tube – CATCH YOUR WIND.  Yes…  lets!

Someone once told me that hymns are the most difficult songs to play – well, I’ll tell you something else – writing about spiritual things is more difficult than writing about the coming of springtime and what you plan to plant in your garden!  Suffice to say…  the Holy Spirit of God is honestly better FELT than TELT.  It can’t be explained in words, because words won’t be good enough to explain Him.  If you know God’s precious Holy Spirit, you are blessed and you know it.

Please keep KANSAS in your prayers.  We have wildfires burning which if not contained soon, will prove to be dangerous to homeowners.  Thank you.  🙂

NATIONAL DAY OF GIVING #GivingTuesday

tl-11-29-national-day-of-giving

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”  – Acts 20:35

All you have to do is watch television…  any channel – choose one, to see the faces and hear the voices of people in need.  Charities are taking to the airwaves like never before, keeping their cause near and dear to our thoughts and hearts.  These days it’s not just human beings, but animals too.  I love animals (and humans most of the time), but how do we know which charities are best to contribute to?

Charitable giving is what this day is all about.  On the heels of Thanksgiving, when we are thankful for our many blessings – and on the heels of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, when we save a ton of money on things, the idea is to give back today.  That savings you realized, you could choose to bless someone, whether 2-legged or 4-legged, with the money you saved.

We all tend to support the causes that are closest to our hearts – and that’s only natural.  I support causes in my mother’s honor and ones that she would find important.  I can’t tell you what charities to support any more than you can tell me – but if you are in doubt about whether your dollars are being used wisely, I have a suggestion.  Pray about it.  I believe if we ask God what is best, He will guide us.

This is a charity search engine that will let you know if an organization is legitimate.  A generous soul does not have to be a blind one – or a dumb one.  It’s sad to think there may be bogus charities out there, but they do exist.  People do desperate things to get money!

Maybe today you would rather take the opportunity to give on a more personal level.  Do you know someone who could use a visit, phone call or card?  Has God brought someone to mind that you need to tend to?  Before you get too busy – stop what you’re doing and make that visit, phone call or send that card!  God will bless you for making the effort.

What sort of gifts could you consider giving?

  • Does somebody need to be warm?  Give the gift of a coat, mittens or a scarf.
  • Does somebody need food in their pantry?  Give the gift of a fruit basket, box of nuts or a gift card for the local grocery store.
  • Does somebody need gas in their car to get to work?  Give the gift of a prepaid card for that.
  • Does somebody need to be heard?  Give the gift of a listening ear with a closed mouth.
  • Does somebody need help paying for medication?  Give the gift of support by going with them to the pharmacy and helping them pay for it.  Some medication is literally life-saving.
  • Does somebody need a hug?  Give the gift of a hug – at least 3 seconds.  I read somewhere that a hug has to be at least 3 seconds long to be effective.
  • Does somebody need God’s Word?  Give the gift of a new Bible – or even a gently used one.  At one time a local antique store in our city sold Bibles for a dollar.  They looked brand new.  That’s where I got award Bibles for Sunday School promotions.  Our local Dollar General has Precious Moments children’s Bibles for less than $10.
  • Does somebody need prayed for?  Well, isn’t that a silly question?  We ALL need prayers.  If we can’t afford anything monetarily, we can sure afford to send up some prayers for those who cross our path and those God lays on our heart to pray for.  And don’t forget to tell the person you’re praying for them.  It always encourages my spirit to know when someone lifts me up in prayer.

#GivingTuesday

Is it silly to pray for those people and animals in advertisements for charities?  No, I don’t think it’s silly.  Even though they don’t have a clue who I am, I know they have a need, and I know that God can meet that need.  So I pray for the 2-legged and the 4-legged ones who need help.  give

I can’t give money to every one of them, but my prayers are certainly with them.  I would add; however, that prayers are not tax-deductible.  Not yet.  🙂

CYBER MONDAY

tl-cyber-mondaywords-1797662__340-3

Today is the day to stay in your pajamas and take advantage of the bargains available online!  There are literally tons of deals out there, so no matter what you are shopping for, there is surely a bargain waiting for you to find it.

15239340_1849686458609149_912808752_nLucinda is a talented poet and contributes regularly to my blog.  Her book “Coffee with Jesus” has been my go-to devotional for many years.  Every week I read a poem and companion Scriptures.  Her words inspire and encourage my spirit to do the things that God has called me to do.15218701_1849714758606319_1672215540_n

Her poem “The Napkin” is particularly inspiring – and mine serves as a reminder of the sacrifice that Christ made to save me for eternity.  I could imagine a table setting with these napkins being so lovely at Christmas.  What a unique touch for a family gathering!

the-napkinHere is a better photo of this high-quality linen napkin ❤15207832_1849714225273039_1946476464_n

I cherish mine and keep it displayed year around.

15175485_1849714205273041_1937375671_nThere’s just something about having a journal to jot down thoughts as you have devotionals.  Sometimes the Lord speaks and inspires us and it’s great to have this companion to “Coffee with Jesus” close by when God inspires us – right?  When you buy the book today, this wonderful journal (a $6 value) can be yours for free!

And wow – upgrading to hard cover – how great is that???  Since this is a devotional book and will be used time and again, year after year…  I mean – when it’s a paperback, it will begin to show wear so much sooner than the hard cover would!  That’s a fantastic bonus, isn’t it?

Today’s the day to buy “Coffee with Jesus” and choose a bonus!  Decisions…  decisions!

When you finally decide which bonus you want to choose, go to www.lucindaspoetry.webs.com

Although not part of the Cyber Monday special…  Lucinda’s book, “A Second Cup with Jesus” is a must-have!  I’m a little biased and like this book in particular because, well…  I got to help with it!  When Lucinda asked if I would like to write prayers to go with her poems, I was so excited and anxious to do that!  We hope and pray that this book will be a blessing to you.  It also makes a great gift.  ❤15211774_1849714728606322_459068675_n

Everyone needs a great devotional book – and I can’t think of a better one!  These poems & prayers will be a blessing.  It’s our prayer that God will speak to your spirit through them.  🙂

PRAYERS & WISHES FOR THANKSGIVING

tl-thanksgiving-2016-11-12-thru-11-24There is so much to be thankful for…  and I have two more posts for Thanksgiving!  Decisions… decisions.  Today I am so very thankful for Warmth – and by warmth I mean not just the snuggly feeling of being in a coat on a cold day.  Warmth on the outside, yes – but also warmth on the inside.  I’m so very thankful for a sense of security and confidence because of a relationship with Jesus Christ.  I’m thankful for God’s joy and His peace that passes all understanding.

I am thankful for my new coat – and I have to show it to you:

new-image5It’s snuggly and warm – it resists moisture and the strong Kansas wind!  And…  it is TEAL BLUE which is my favorite color.  It was my mom’s favorite color too.  I also like to wear it on Friday for Blue Friday for diabetes awareness.  It was half price which cinched the deal for sure.  I’ll be toasty warm  this winter and for that – yes I’m very thankful for physical warmth and protection.  Oh, and by the way…  I know my hands are inside the sleeves.  Yes, I do have hands – but the coat is not a petite, so…  well – if you’re short, you understand.

In a spiritual sense, I feel very secure and God instills confidence in my soul every day.  There’s nothing like having God’s love, joy and peace within.  I know you know that.

Let’s take a moment to thank God for the warmth He give us – inside and out:a-poem-prayer-for-thanksgivingAs we acknowledge God in all our ways, He promises to direct our paths.  I don’t take those promises for granted, do you?  I take Him at His word and lean on Him for help every moment of every day.

When we ask God for things like security, acceptance, confidence, and peace…  He is faithful to answer those prayers – and it’s a different answer for each of us.  I think that’s great, and more proof that we are not robots, but were created by a loving God who knows just what we need and how to provide for that need!  I love how God answers our prayers.

Lucinda does too!

thankful-for-the-way-god-answersI wish for you answered prayers!  I wish you more of whatever it is you need.  I wish for you better relationships, and success in life.  I wish that more of your plans and dreams will come to pass if it is God’s will.  🙂

PRAYERS & WISHES FOR THANKSGIVING

tl-thanksgiving-2016-11-12-thru-11-24No matter in what language you speak, thanksgiving prayers are often written in the form of poems or songs.  I’m not just saying that because I’m a poet and musician.  Every day from now until thanksgiving, I want to share a prayer and some wishes for you and your family.

Will you pray with me?

I wish for you and your family more unity.  I wish you wisdom and discernment as you gather together to count blessings.  I wish you a truly heart-warming thanksgiving with the Spirit of God right in the center!  🙂
