EASTER

TL 3-27 EASTER

Tomb, thou shalt not hold Him longer;
Death is strong, but Life is stronger;
Stronger than the dark, the light;
Stronger than the wrong, the right…
– Phillips Brooks, “An Easter Carol”

JOY

HALLELUJAH!!!  Herein lies the HOPE of every Christian on earth!  Jesus was raised from the dead by God and now sits at His right hand.  When He ascended into Heaven, He left His precious Holy Spirit to help us navigate this tricky life.  That’s the GOOD NEWS of Christianity – but guess what?  The news gets better…  that same Jesus that died for our sins, was buried and raised by God the Father will one day soon be told to come back to earth to snatch His own so we can live eternally in Heaven with Him!

What a surprise we got today when we found EASTER SNOW on the ground.  I had to write a new poem!

A LOVELY EASTER SNOWAnd here’s an old poem about the cutest little Easter bonnet ever!  EASTER BONNET

There is not one negative fact for me to report, therefore, I have no reason to be anything but positive!  God is love…  God sent Christ to be love incarnate…  Christ willingly gave His very life because He loves us… God raised Christ from the grave and He LIVES!!!  That same Jesus IS coming from the eastern sky one day soon to take us home forever.  So, make an Easter bonnet from a paper plate, a strand of ribbon and assorted baubles.  Apply a bit of lipstick and blush (coordinating colors with your Sunday best, of course) – and BE JOYOUS!  The outward appearance is not the most important part – but the JOY of the LORD flowing from within is essential.  😉EGGS OF LIFEI asked a pastor once what the difference is between happiness and joy.  He said that happiness is dependent on external conditions or situations and joy is not.  For example, if it’s payday and the sun is shining and I haven’t had problems with my co-workers, I could very well be happy, but not necessarily filled with joy.  A deeper, more meaningful and constant state of mind and spirit is joy – the JOY of the LORD from God’s Holy Spirit, to be precise.  Whether skies are sunny or stormy, this deep settled peace and joy from Him keep me floating on faith.  Sails of grace, mercy, love and hope on God’s vessel are enough.  Just enough.  That knowledge makes me joyful.

The joyful news that He is risen does not change the contemporary world.  Still before us lie work, discipline, sacrifice.  But the fact of Easter gives us the spiritual power to do the work, accept the discipline, and make the sacrifice.   – Henry Knox Sherrill

Spiritual power…  indeed.  Let’s take that power from God with us into the world.  HALLELUJAH!!!  🙂

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

TL 2-16 A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEARTYOU'RE THE SPRINKLES ON MY LIFEWho are the sprinkles in your life?  Who adds that special something to your everyday life?  Husbands, wives, children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren for some.  Aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins.  What about friends?  If you have a best friend, you are especially blessed!

Are you a sprinkle to anyone?  God sprinkles you with His love and you sprinkle family and friends.  Have you ever thought of it that way before?  Don’t you love how God works???

At a potluck dinner in the fellowship center one Sunday morning after service, my pastor and I were standing in line looking at the desserts.  There was a very happy plate filled with cupcakes – topped with icing and sprinkles.  He laughed and said, “I like SPRINKLES – but not BB’S.”   I knew exactly what he was talking about.  If those cupcakes had been decorated with BB’s, forget it – I wouldn’t have taken one!

1467492_771456416204141_1783276352_nJust as there are many kinds of toppings or decorations for cupcakes, there are many types of people in the world – and it made me ask myself – “What type of person am I with others?”  Am I a yummy sprinkle, or am I at times a tough little BB???  I so want to be a sprinkle!  I prayed that God make me a sprinkle.  What a prayer to pray, huh?

God allows so many opportunities every day for us to sprinkle, sparkle and shine!  As we receive His character traits, we share those traits with those in our realm of influence – or we should.  While we will never be perfect, with God’s help, we can be better than we were before we knew the Father.

Please Heavenly Father,

Help me to be a sprinkle to those around me.  Even when I’m having less than a good day, may I always remember to be soft, gentle, kind and loving regardless of my personal issues.  Keep all jealousy, envy, hate and negative, unproductive emotions at bay as I forge ahead to be Your child.  I truly am too blessed to be stressed, and I thank You for everything good in my life.  May I never take it for granted and may I never be unwilling to share.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

BB’s (fake friends, haters, negative people) are challenges that are bound to appear once in a while.  We have a choice at that point to be a BB or a sprinkle in return.  I sure hope God helps me to be a sprinkle.  🙂

SENIOR CITIZEN’S DAY

TL 8-21 SENIOR CITIZEN'S DAY

A SHINY DISPOSITIONhttp://youtu.be/GLzRAHWAqA8

Today is SENIOR CITIZEN’S DAY!!!  I’m not one yet, but I’m fast approaching the starting gate.  Of all the attributes needed to be successful in life, I believe two are most important:  a good attitude and disposition.  I’m sure we all recognize a good attitude, but we don’t hear much about disposition anymore.

What is a disposition?

dis·po·si·tion noun \ˌdis-pə-ˈzi-shən\ : the usual attitude or mood of a person or animal : a tendency to act or think in a particular way.

The other day I was in the grocery store and saw a T-shirt that said “I love my attitude”. Of course we all know it’s a statement about a BAD attitude, a sort of declaration that although the attitude is not good, there are no plans to do anything about it – except brag about it.

If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face. And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until it gets so ugly you can hardly bear to look at it. A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.
– Roald Dahl

How times have changed. When I was a kid, we did not brag about a bad attitude, or disposition. I was encouraged to have the best disposition I could have, and told that with God’s help it was possible. When did we give up and begin bragging about the bad in us? It makes me sad that we choose to give up, give in and surrender to negativity. Life can be so much better. God wants to help us make it the best life with love and peace from Him.

Some days there won’t be a song in your heart. Sing anyway. – Emory Austin

It’s possible to have a shiny disposition with God’s help. God, our loving heavenly Father. We need to ask for His help. He knows where you are, the pain you feel (physically and emotionally), and He calls you by your name. Take a moment to call on God at the beginning of each day. Ask Him to guide and direct your path, give you strength and courage to face the day ahead.

I’ve decided that the stuff falling through the cracks is confetti and I’m having a party! – Betsy Cañas Garmon

Celebrate a positive outlook, a good attitude, a shiny disposition! 😀

UPSY DAISY
When I write a poem and then have to explain what it means – uh… never mind. A poem really should be self-explanatory in nature and apparently this one isn’t. Funny, because it’s crystal clear to me.

Maybe it’s because daisies are my favorite flower and to me they are the essence of happiness! As a matter of fact, I want daisies at my funeral, thank you very much! No carnations surrounding my casket, please! Would somebody please tell my husband because he never reads my blog posts. LOL!!!

The point of the poem is to emphasize that a positive outlook is better than a negative one. Anyone can make a mistake and say OOPSY DAISY – but when you mess up and say UPSY DAISY it means you have taken a lesson from the mistake. It says that you refuse to wear that scar and you will get back up and keep trying!

Oh – a positive outlook can take you so much further than the doom and gloom that we are all tempted to convey. For years I internalized every mistake I made and pretty soon I felt very heavy and very defeated. Shed those layers of past hurts and mistakes and in the future refuse to even put them on! Yes we all sin and yes we all have weaknesses. But hear me when I say Christ died on the cross, God raised Him from the dead, and there is not one sin or one weakness that He cannot help you overcome through His power!

This, my friends, is GOOD NEWS! In fact – this is THE GOOD NEWS – the gospel of Christ! That is the only Good News that can help you for the long haul. There are motivational speakers and people who are positive thinkers, but until you talk about the sacrifice that Christ made on the cross – until the blood of Christ is mentioned, it’s just ear-tickling. It means nothing without the whole story! 🙂

WELL MASKED
The words of the heart surgeon still ring in my mind as though she spoke them yesterday.  She said:

DON’T YOU EVER CRY IN FRONT OF HIM AGAIN! I DON’T WANT YOU TO SPEAK NEGATIVELY AROUND HIM. DO NOT UPSET HIM OR RAISE YOUR VOICE TO HIM. WE CAN GET HIM THROUGH THIS, BUT IT’S UP TO YOU TO KEEP HIS SPIRITS UP FROM NOW ON. DO YOU UNDERSTAND?

Not one soul on this planet understands the pressure I have felt from that moment forward – not one. Yes, I know God gets it – we’ve talked a few million times.  If I don’t feel particularly positive, it makes me feel extremely guilty and I feel as though I have to put on this fake mask and just force myself to BE positive.  I can be positive or be quiet.

It’s not that I’m a negative person – but I’m not just all smiles and rainbows every day. I’ve just become this sort of nothing in particular – no real emotions shine through at all. I’m guarded and careful – and numb. Yes, madam surgeon – I understand. I can’t get angry or show any excitement of any kind. Yep – I get it.

So this is me. My emotions are in check and I’ve become calculated. I’m no longer the spontaneous person I used to be. I miss that person, but it’s okay.  Last week we went to a convention. I socialize in a sort of moderate way with people. I don’t talk too much and I listen when I’m spoken to. I don’t over-react to anything and I’ve been almost editing every syllable since my husband’s heart surgery.

We were sitting with friends at the hotel’s restaurant. I ordered a spinach salad and a glass of water. The salad was wonderful and quite large. I ate half and took half back to the room. The waitress came to our table with the box in one hand and the water pitcher in the other. She was trying to hand me the box and fill my water-glass at the same time – the glass spilled and the water (and ice) went right in my lap.

I just sat there. I really honestly showed no emotion. My friends were doing plenty of reacting on my behalf. I’m still walking through life with this emotionless mask on my face.  I do remember thinking, “Hey, I think I have the hang of this now.”  I mean everyone was commenting about how non-reactive I was.  Is it a good thing?  Well, good or bad – it is what it is.

The surgeon has spoken – and I must obey!

A FERVENT PRAYER

In the Bible, God’s Holy Word, New Testament, book of James chapter 5 verse 16, we are reminded that fervent prayer makes things happen. How fervent are your prayers and how frequently do you pray that way?

Have you been praying for a lost loved one? Does it feel like nothing is really happening in your life? Try praying with intensity of spirit. Pray with spunk. No, that was spunk, not skunk. There is enough stinkin’ thinkin’ in this society, thank you.

God is the only one who really knows when you pour your whole spirit into your prayers. You could act like you are around me and I would not know differently. I’m easily fooled, but God is not. I hate to tell you this, but He can tell if you are sincere. If there is sincerity, love and faith along with the words you pray to the Father, then back up because something is going to happen! Yes, I said back up. Get out of God’s way because you’ve asked Him to handle something, so quit trying to handle it. Be still, believe He’s got it, let go and let Him have it.

Pray like the prophet Elijah. If you have a sincere loving and faithful spirit, God will hear and answer your prayers.

Genesis 32:26 gives us Jacob’s instructive prayer to. God: “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” This is the type of persistence needed in our prayer life. So often we have a need and either do not ask because we lack faith, or we ask with a wrong attitude. We go into prayer with the thought that God won’t do anything anyway, so why even ask? We ask with a confidence in our God. Remember all the times He saw you through in the past? How can you possibly doubt that God will see you through when you need Him now? Don’t give up on the ones you are praying for because in heaven’s eyes there are no losers and no hopeless causes. There are just people and we are amazed by God’s amazing grace once we find it. ❤
