SAY SOMETHING NICE DAY

TL 6-1 SAY SOMETHING NICE DAY

Mayor Keith Summey of the City of North Charleston issued a proclamation declaring the month of June as Better Communication Month and June 01, 2010 as Say Something Nice Day. He presented the proclamation to Dr. Mitch Carnell at the regular city council meeting on May 27th.The mayor made several remarks urging all citizens to take an active part and to treat all people with respect.

Are politeness, pleasantries and compliments a thing of the past?  Are the words please and thank you foreign to our society these days?  Maybe today would be a great opportunity to revive them!

The nicest thing to say to someone is that Jesus loves them!

TELL THEM

The second best thing I can think of to do is share this wonderful You Tube video that my friend John Minton made:

If you can’t think of something nice to say, just give someone a smile!  It doesn’t cost a thing to smile, and it might be the nicest thing that happens all day for them.

The idea behind this day is to counteract bullying, including the serious problem of cyber bullying.  Let’s correct the lack of civility and common courtesy that is growing among people in today’s world.

Kindness in word and deed becomes habit.  Hopefully if we begin saying something nice today, it will be so successful we will do it again tomorrow.

One thing I might add…  when you are trying to think of something nice to say, please make sure what you are saying has at least a hint of sincerity to it.  There’s only one thing worse than saying nothing at all – and that’s saying something that in insincere.  Honestly, if you said nothing you’d be better off.

By the same token, if you receive a compliment – don’t wiggle around and reject it – take it!  Just say “THANK YOU” and feel good that someone likes something about you!  Assume it was an honest statement and build on that.  Put it in your self-esteem file for days when your self-esteem is a little shaky.

There’s a certain piece of jewelry that I am complimented on every time I wear it.  When I’m nervous and my self-confidence is less than stellar, I pull that piece of jewelry out and wear it.  It helps me feel better.  Of course, I also drench my future in prayer – I think it’s called pray without ceasing…  lol.  Wink!  😉
