It’s Monday again and I’m still in pain.  Does it help to be grumpy and complain?  Um…  no.

 …give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.  – 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Is today Thanksgiving?  Well, shouldn’t we give thanks to the LORD every day?  It’s what God wants us to do.  It’s His will for our lives!  So yes, today is Thanksgiving!

Not only are we to be thankful people, but we are to give thanks to the LORD in all circumstances!  Oh – now the stew gets thick, doesn’t it?  I don’t always feel like being thankful.

IT'S MONDAY

Don’t you think that God knows we’re going to have difficulties and trials along the way?  Of course He does!  I believe He wants us to lean on His power and wisdom even more when the going gets tough.

We can gain even more perspective into this portion of Scripture if we expand a bit on it:

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.  1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

While the seas are calm it’s easy to rely on our own thoughts and reason to get by.  I submit that as the seas are stormy, we need to hang on to Christ and His perfect timing even more!  My boat is rocking in a storm right now – and it’s a challenge to be joyful and pray continually, but I know that’s exactly what I need to do – and give thanks – no matter what.

God’s Holy Spirit is the source of joy, and joy makes me smile!  I know God has everything in His very capable hands.  Again it’s Monday, but it’s okay!  🙂

What is Christmas all about?  One of my friends reminded me recently that it is not his birthday, but the birthday of Christ Jesus.  If we can keep it in perspective and teach little ones that lesson, it honors God.  Today I invite you to join me in prayer for those who are less fortunate.  We do what we can to help, but in addition to helping physically, we pray.

 O GOD, Almighty and merciful, who heals those that are broken in heart, and turns the sadness of the sorrowful to joy; Let Your Fatherly goodness be upon all that You have made. Remember in pity those who are this day destitute, homeless, or forgotten by their fellow-men. Bless the congregation of Your poor. Uplift those who are cast down. For those who suffer innocently, I pray that You will sanctify their endurance of the wrongs worked on them, keeping their hearts free of bitterness. Cheer with hope all discouraged and unhappy people, and help those who are tempted into sin by their poverty; though they be troubled on every side, suffer them not to be distressed; though they be perplexed, save them from despair. Grant this, O Lord, for the love of Him, who for our sakes endured poverty and blameless suffering, Your Son, our Jesus Christ.  It’s in His Name we pray, Amen.

IT'S ME AGAIN LORD

I have to remind and reassure myself that the Bible tells us it’s okay to pray without ceasing. Sometimes it’s as if I’m really getting on God’s last nerve with my constant praying. I try not to make it a list of complaints or a list of stuff I need or outcomes I need to have happen in my life. Sometimes I just want to be silent and know that He is God.

Those are the really powerful prayer times! Those times when you just sit still and KNOW. You just know that He is. He is what? He IS – and that’s enough. He is everything and everything is Him. Once you understand that your stuff is not yours, your very life is His, your attitude and outlook will become more clear and focused. There will suddenly be so much small stuff where it seemed so important before!

In Matthew chapter 6 verse 9 we are taught how we should pray:

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. – Matthew 6:9-13

So, is it possible to pray without ceasing???

According to Mary it is! She explained it to her minister like this:

“Well, sir”, she said, “when I first open my eyes in the morning, I pray ‘Lord, open the eyes of my understanding’; and while I am dressing, I pray that I may be clothed with the robes of righteousness; when I wash, I ask for the washing of regeneration; as I work, I pray that I may have the strength equal to my day; as I sweep out the house, I pray the my heart may be cleansed from all impurities; while preparing and eating of breakfast, I pray to be fed with the hidden manna and the sincere milk of the Word; as I am busy with the little children, I ask God to make me become as a child; and so on, all day. Everything I do furnishes me with a thought for prayer.”

So…  carry on and pray without ceasing!  🙂
