A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

What is faith?  Well, there is a particular definition that I learned from the time I was very small.  It’s a verse I have had memorized for years!

That’s not the version I memorized as a kid – I know the King James version:

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  – Hebrews 11:1

We’re to have this faith – this confidence in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  We are to be assured of that which we do not see.  We walk by faith – and not by sight.  We can only be God’s child by faith.

Faith is the strength by which a shattered world shall emerge into the light.  – Helen Keller

Just as time away from the gym can show fairly quickly on the scale, time away from God can show fairly quickly in our lives.  Some folks refuse to have faith while others say they do, but they don’t take the time to exercise it.  Something in the name of this video caught my eye – it says, Allow Me, I Will Heal Your Soul” – and that’s significant – we have a choice to allow the Lord to help us or not.  We’re given the free will to make the choice for God or against Him.

God wants to give you opportunities today.  Will you trust the path He has for you to walk, or will you ignore Him and go your own way?  Work that faith out a little bit…  think about the substance of things HOPED FOR – expecting in your heart to see the evidence of THINGS UNSEEN.  Why are people so surprised when God answers their prayers?  Maybe it’s because they didn’t think their faith was as strong as it really is.  Just a thought.

We don’t see the wind in Kansas, but I’ll tell you what – we feel it!  The limbs on the ground are the evidence of the wind that blew them off the trees!  We see the evidence of the wind everywhere.  In the autumn, the Kansas wind blows the leaves off the trees and as we rake the leaves, we’re reminded that once again the wind came to visit.  Do you have to see to believe?  🙂

PREPARE YE THE WAY OF THE LORD

TL 12-1 PREPARE YE THE WAY OF THE LORDDonate to a local charity.  What a wonderful way to help out during the Christmas season.  Our local Disabled American Veteran thrift store has a shopping cart beside the front door.  It’s convenient to drop off a donation, and I try to give at Christmas time especially because so many folks do their Christmas shopping there.  Having choices is always a good thing – right?

Everyone has a particular charity they give to.  We have several local charities but there are also the more well-known ones such as The JDRF and The American Cancer Society.  There are so many needs, aren’t there?  Needs for research and unfortunately that takes a lot of money.  I can’t give to all of them, but just like everyone else, I do what I can afford to do.

Sometimes it can seem overwhelming.  It seems like every time you turn the TV on, you see an advertisement for a new charity.  I think we just have to pray and ask God to show us what to do.  Once in a while there are opportunities to volunteer with organizations.  Giving to charitable organizations does not always hit your pocketbook.  Sometimes it takes a little of your precious time.  I can’t speak for everyone, but often I have more time than money.

Have you ever wondered what would have happened if Mary would have said NO – ???  I can’t imagine a humble servant of God doing that, but what if she would have?  Her obedience, considering her young age, tells me that she was well grounded in her faith.  When it comes to decision-making in our own lives, we’d be wise to learn to ponder things over more than we do.  Who to help and where to give – these are important decisions because not every charity is using your dollars the way you would want them to.  Get to know the charity you want to help before you give.

You may need a little nudge to donate your time to sing…  but it makes others smile.  This is what I’m talkin’ about…

Helping others is one of the greatest blessings God gives us.  When you give of yourself, whether it’s time, talent or treasure, you feel as though you are making another person’s life better.  In turn, your life gets better.  Don’t you love how God’s plan works in each of us?  Some need help – others need to help.  All needs are met.  🙂

IRON SHARPENS IRON… FRIENDSHIP

TL IRON SHARPENS IRON (2)

Friends come,
Friends go,
But a true friend is there to watch you grow.  – Florence

I LOVE how God brings people together!  Christian friends have one best friend – Jesus.  Our Lord allows our paths to cross and great things happen!  Once you tell the Lord you will live your life for Him – and He brings others who have committed their lives to Him as well into your life – it is so cool.

I love it when collaboration mixes with divine inspiration to bring information to  the entire nation… I do – I really really do!!!  – Linda Palmer

What happens when we say YES to the Lord?  Doors open that would not have opened.  We grow in ways we could never imagine.  The more of God’s family I connect with, the better it gets.  I’ve had opportunities to help authors and artists and photographers who seek to honor God.  I’m tickled to be a helper – I really am!

I love the body of Christ.  We lift and encourage one another.  We see the best in each other and serve with the best we have to offer because we understand that what we do is not for men, but for God.  We don’t seek to please people – we seek to please God.

A BEAUTIFUL FRIENDSHIP

We are friends…  with creatures but also with other people.  Jesus is our best friend and our friendships center around Him.  People who believe that Christianity is just a religion really don’t understand the depth of our faith.  Love is the reason we do what we do and are what we are – the love of God through His Son, Jesus.

Are you wrinkled with burden? Come to God for a faith lift.  – Author Unknown

It’s true iron sharpening when you have Christian friends.  When Christ is in the center and we leave the good times, the bad times and the in-between times with Him.  No judgments and no lectures – we just pray for one another.  We leave it all at the cross – and forgive.  🙂

RELIGIOUS FREEDOM DAY

TL 1-16 RELIGIOUS FREEDOM DAY

1-16 FREEDOM TO PRAISE HIM

Today we lift our hearts and our hands to our Creator in thanksgiving once again!  We do that every day to thank Him for another beautiful day, but today we add a note of thanks that we as Americans have the right to enjoy RELIGIOUS FREEDOM DAY!!!

I was reading this really interesting article in the American Psychiatric Journal…. research shows that going to church actually boosts your immune system, decreases your blood pressure, and reduces stress. It’s kind of like an antioxidant from God.   – Bones, “The Repo Man in the Septic Tank,” original airdate 2014 March 17th, spoken by the character Seeley Booth, writing credits M.Peterson, H.Hanson, and K.Reichs

Each year on this date, the President calls upon Americans to “observe this day through appropriate events and activities in homes, schools, and places of worship.”  It is the anniversary of the passage of the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom in 1786.

Today we should promote and protect students’ right of religious expression.  These liberties need to be encouraged by parents, educators and others who work with children.  This is not a time in history when such opportunities should be ignored or taken for granted.  If we are to reach our youth for Christ, we must be proactive and aware of the doors that open before us.

Will we dare to walk through the door today, or will we sit back and wait for someone else to let a child (or adult) know that God is love and Jesus loves them?  It not only takes a village to raise a child, but it takes the whole family of God to help that child come to Jesus.  There are many religions, but there is one God and one Son of God, Jesus Christ.  He is the One we need to show to others.

Don’t think that you as one person cannot make a difference.

Through an activity or event – (or just one on one), tell someone that Jesus made a way for them to live forever and He is worthy of praise and He can be trusted with their heart, soul and life.  Once a person catches a glimpse of the plan of Salvation, it’s amazing and exciting to watch them grow in their faith!

They won’t know if we don’t share our faith with them.  They won’t understand if they are not taught.  Your faith in God was meant to be shared.  Look around you – people need faith and hope that only God can give.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.  – John 3:16-17

Leave “religion” at the door and speak the truth of God’s Word to someone today.  That is the best way you could possibly celebrate this special day.  Jesus is my Savior, not my religion.  🙂
