A SUMMER OF PSALMS

God will never change and He will never fail!  His loving-kindness is the same always!  Do you trust Him today?

When you see or hear the letters OJ, what comes to mind?  I can honestly say that ORANGE JUICE used to pop into my mind.  To some sports fans, or true crime drama fans, the name O.J. Simpson may pop to mind; however, may I introduce you to another option?  How about…

ONLY JESUS!?!

Isn’t that a great poem?  Only Jesus will do when I rise, or when I’m resting, or when I’m working!  Only Jesus will do when I’m speaking, or when I’m writing, or when I need true wisdom!  We tend to distance ourselves from everyone when we’re sick or when we’re hurting, but even if we pull away from friends and family, those are times when we need to draw closer to our Lord.

We need Jesus to keep us strong and encouraged when we are crying, or singing, or praying.  The Lord gives us words to say when we pray.  He understands those prayers that are not intelligible by anyone else.  Those prayers that are just groans, because the physical pain or mental hurt we feel is so horrible.

I love this poem!  What a blessing to have this lovely lady in my life!  Her work blesses me every day!

You know, so many people ask me if I think it matters to the Lord whether we have devotional time early in the morning or late at night.  I tell them I don’t think it’s a command that we have devotionals in the morning; however, it really is a great way to begin your day.  Personally, I think it’s best in the morning because I see my life as a living sacrifice and I want to offer first fruits.  I want God to come first and this is part of putting Him first in my life.  🙂

PRAYERS & WISHES FOR THANKSGIVING

tl-thanksgiving-2016-11-12-thru-11-24

Today i am thankful for coffee, that substance that makes me human, and able to deal with my day, which is drank in peace.  – Cathy Ann Nash

Does it seem odd to have a prayer of thanks for coffee?  Well, maybe…  but don’t we all thank the Lord for coffee every morning anyway?  I know I sure do!  Let’s be thankful today for coffee:a-prayer-poem-for-thanksgiving

This coffee falls into your stomach, and straightway there is a general commotion. Ideas begin to move like the battalions of the Grand Army of the battlefield, and the battle takes place. Things remembered arrive at full gallop, ensuing to the wind. The light cavalry of comparisons deliver a magnificent deploying charge, the artillery of logic hurry up with their train and ammunition, the shafts of with start up like sharpshooters. Similes arise, the paper is covered with ink; for the struggle commences and is concluded with torrents of black water, just as a battle with powder.  – Honoré de Balzac, “The Pleasures and Pains of Coffee”

It’s not a coincidence that coffee is a part of mornings all over the world.  Don’t you think it’s just another way that God makes life easier for us?  That may seem like a simple explanation to you, but it’s really what I believe.  I don’t think God wants us to struggle to exist here.  I believe He provides things – some big and some small – meant to help us along.  It’d be a shame if we failed to thank Him for all of it, wouldn’t it?

Lucinda is thankful for coffee too.  Take a look at this cute poem:

three-cupsOkay, I’m not a prankster at all, but I did find this You Tube video of coffee pranks – and I laughed and laughed.  😀  Maybe there’s someone you’d like to pull a coffee prank on at Thanksgiving though.  I hear some families are really into pranks.  🙂

I wish for you a fun day of coffee pranks if that’s what you want.  I wish for your coffee to be strong enough, and your work day to be short.  I wish for you as much laughter as you can possibly stand this day.  Enjoy!  😉

INTERNATIONAL COFFEE DAY

TL 9-29 INTERNATIONAL COFFEE DAY

Today is NOT the day to run out of coffee because it’s INTERNATIONAL COFFEE DAY!!!  Coffee traces its biological heritage to plants known as Coffea.  Coffee plants are cultivated in over 70 countries, primarily in the equatorial regions of the Americas, Southeast Asia, India and Africa.

The two most common types of coffee are arabica and robusta, which has a more bitter taste.

Bill has his free coffee???  Where’s yours???

Once ripe, coffee beans are picked, processed and dried.  Unroasted green coffee beans are one of the most traded agricultural commodities in the world.  The beans are roasted to varying degrees, depending on the desired flavor before being ground and brewed to create coffee.

I lost my mother eleven years ago yesterday.  Isn’t God good to us through our friends?  Lucinda reminded me of today’s special holiday and it lightened my countenance immediately!  If ever there was a coffee lover, it is me!  Some of the best memories I have of my mother were made over a cup of coffee.  We used to go to the Kings-X restaurant on the north end of Wichita nearly every Saturday to reconnect over a breakfast of biscuits & gravy and a lot of good hot coffee.  We solved all the world’s problems with that winning combination!

These days I enjoy coffee in the morning while reading devotionals.  Do you ever wake up in the morning and think about coffee – and feel the need to get out of bed just so you can get to it?  I do!

I wondered about the history of this amazing beverage, so I found a PBS documentary.  There are 3 parts, so grab a cup of coffee and put your feet up as you watch it – wink!  😉

HUG IN A MUG

My favorite cup of coffee comes from Chick-fil-A.  Why?  Because the folks there actually know the farmers who grow the plants around the world.

Do you know of another fast-food restaurant that knows the names of their coffee farmers?  I don’t.  It’s one more personal touch that Chick-fil-A brings to the table – the breakfast table.  🙂

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

TL A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART (16)

GOOD MORNING!

Mornings…  sigh.  Are you at peace with your pace?  As a kid I woke up listening to my favorite music on my stereo.  Daddy used to come in my room and turn on KLEO – and my day would begin.  Once I was a married woman, I had an annoying alarm clock that made a very annoying buzzing sound to wake me up.  It didn’t even have a snooze button!

As I get older, I have a desire to wake up more slowly and with a greater sense of purpose.  I have the most wonderful and aromatic way of being allured to consciousness – I recently purchased a coffee maker with a timer!  I set the timer, the coffee is made and I smell it!  Ah… time to wake up – and I can handle that!

I asked the group, A Second Helping of Wellness…  with a Dash of Humor & a Pinch of Faith, how they deal with this common problem called – morning.  Here are some of their responses:

  • Coffee
  • Tea (hot and iced)
  • Facebook
  • Coke
  • Pepsi Zero
  • Exercise (most said a walk outside)
  • Meditation / Devotions / Prayer Time – to seek purpose and direction
  • Sunlight streaming through open curtains into bedroom
  • A glass of cool water to invigorate and prevent dehydration

So even if we are caffeine junkies (and most of us are), we should still begin with that glass of H2O because we need to be rehydrated.  We care for our physical, psychological and spiritual needs every morning.  It’s important to keep a balanced attitude toward morning – every morning.

Get a full 8 hours of sleep because it’s during that time physical repairs take place.   Choose a way of waking up that will make you happy to begin with.  No matter how you begin your day, make it a great one to whatever extent you can!  Your routine each morning should reinforce the joy you want inside that will spill out to others.

If you are still part of the workforce (not to rub it in, but I’m retired)…  here are some good tips for streamlining your work week:

Wow – that brings back some memories…  I used to plan my wardrobe a week at a time.  It really does save time in the morning.

Having my gallbladder removed has left me feeling SO much better with tons of energy!  It’s so weird – I didn’t realize how bad I felt until I felt really great!  Since the surgery on June 3rd, I’ve lost 12 pounds and a few inches off my waist.  This is my head start on significant weight loss!  I am so very excited about the future, and the future begins…  tomorrow morning!  🙂

INTERNATIONAL MOMENT OF LAUGHTER DAY

TL 4-14 INTERNATIONAL MOMENT OF LAUGHTER DAY

Would you rather do ten sit-ups or laugh until you spew root beer (diet, of course) from your nose???  Okay, that’s what I thought.  Who of us would not rather have a good laugh than exercise?  I know I would!  Did you know that a good hearty laugh can take the place of those painful sit-ups?  It’s true!  The same muscles that get worked during sit-ups are also worked during a really good laugh.

Laughter is the best medicine for so many reasons.  Endorphins are instantly released and boost mood better than any anti-depressant on the market!  When you laugh, your blood pressure lowers because you relax inside.  A person who does not take life, or themselves, too seriously is a healthier person and a person that others enjoy being around.  That sounds like a real win/win to me!

Lucinda Berry Hill wrote a great poem for this day:

4-14 MOMENTS OF LAUGHTER

Love is an inside job. Take a moment to laugh today.  If there is someone in your life who has influenced your good humor, give them a call and let them know you appreciate it.  Enjoy that person while you can – because all too soon the people who mean the most to us are suddenly not there anymore.

You grow up the day you have your first real laugh—-at yourself. – Ethel Barrymore

  • Be careful if you plan to pull a practical joke on someone – sometimes those things can backfire.
  • Visit your local greeting card store and look at some of the funny cards.
  • Share a funny story with a friend.  Why laugh alone?
  • Watch your favorite funny movie – or read other posts on my blog.
  • Do you have a friend that makes you laugh when you hear them laugh?  Yeah – that’s the friend to get ahold of today.
  • Get naked and laugh at yourself in a full-length mirror.  This one doesn’t work for some of you – I get it.
  • Show your baby pictures to someone who has never seen them.
  • Go to a joke shop and buy a laugh box.  Put it in a co-worker’s cubicle, turn it on and run.
  • Make faces at the clerk in the grocery store until they laugh.  Then say, “Mission accomplished.”

You don’t really have to think up a reason to laugh, but you should have a rational explanation for when someone asks why you are laughing uncontrollably in public.  Some folks just need to be assured that you haven’t gone a little crazy.

Sometimes the laugh that wells up inside you should not be stifled. Sometimes it just needs to bubble to the surface and escape! 🙂
