PRAYERS & WISHES FOR THANKSGIVING

Can adversity ever be a good thing?  It’s obviously unpleasant and no fun at all, but when God tests our faith, it can make us stronger and help us to learn lessons that make us better people.  The Bible talks about how we will be refined like gold and silver – and sometimes that heat gets mighty HOT.

Those are the times when we are tempted to stop believing, stop praying and stop reading the Bible.  We just want to throw our hands up and quit.  If we do that it certainly does not give God glory and it makes Him sad because we’ve lost faith and trust in Him.

On the other side of that coin, we know that God is long-suffering.  In other words, He’s patient with us because He knows we are human and can’t see what’s down the road like He can.  God is not standing in front of us with a bat, ready to smack us if we begin to act a bit human.  He knows we’re human because He created us!  He created angels too – but He made them with absolutely no faith whatsoever because they don’t need it – humans need faith because we’ve not seen God or Heaven or any of what lies beyond what our eyes see.

So…  God works with us when we’re in the midst of a trial.  He wants us to be successful in the end.  He doesn’t want anyone to fail or miss Heaven.  Let’s say a prayer of thanks for God’s guidance through trials:a-prayer-poem-for-thanksgiving

I know some people will think it’s odd to be thankful for the trials that come our way, but it’s God’s way of working in our lives.  If only wonderful things happened in life, would we grow and learn to depend on God more?  I don’t think so.  praising-god-during-difficult-times

The next time you are in the midst of a trial, remember that it’s God’s way to bring you back to Him.  Our God is a jealous God and wants first place in our lives.  Aren’t we thankful that God has given us the privilege of praying to Him?

It’s my wish that you’ll be drawn closer to God through adversity in life.  Although we as human beings don’t understand why things have to go wrong, we have to acknowledge God’s hand in all things.  We raise our hands and praise Him no matter what.  🙂

MATTHEW 5:28 ON 5/28

MATTHEW 5 28 ON 5 28

But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.  – Matthew 5:28

It’s not easy being the “token Christian” in the workplace.  Along with 100 other women, I was  confined to my own tiny cubicle for eight hours a day, with a fifteen minute break in the morning and fifteen minute break in the afternoon and a half hour for lunch – I needed some coping mechanisms to deal with every possible contingency.  My coping mechanism of choice was prayer – and a lot of it.

I used to pray, “Lord, please bless this cubicle.  Let those around me know You through me.”  It was a simple prayer, but highly effective.  It availeth much.

Friday – payday had finally arrived!  I got paid every two weeks and was especially looking forward to this check.  Like most people, I had plans for this money and it involved paying down some credit and loosening the grip financially just a bit.

My brown bag lunch was in the refrigerator (just one more way of economizing), but I got a phone call shortly before lunch time.  It was a co-worker inviting me to have lunch with her.  From the sound of her voice, I could tell there was something on her mind and she wanted to talk.  I agreed and put my brown bag back in the fridge.

Since we only had a half hour, we walked across the street to the fast food restaurant.  We had hardly got settled with our salads when she blurted out – “I can’t take it anymore!”  There were tears welling in her eyes.  Tons of possibilities came to mind – was she unhappy at work?  Was she having a problem with a co-worker?  A boss?  ME?

I attacked the latter first – “Do you have a problem with me?,” I asked.  She sort of laughed and let me know that it wasn’t me.  She said she knew I was a Christian and would pray for her.  I nodded in agreement as I listened.  She explained that her husband had looked at porn on the computer a lot and that he was now beginning to put posters up in his garage.

She said, “Do you know how that makes me, as his wife, feel?”  She felt like she was not enough – and would never be enough for him.  She explained that her husband wanted her to  have all sorts of reconstructive surgery to make her look better – more like the fantasy women he was looking at all day long.  She was in tears and understandably so.  Sadly the couple had two teenage children who were exposed to this immature and selfish behavior.

All I could do was listen and pray for she and her family.  We prayed that day before going back to work.  I pray for them every day – still.

I’m reminded of the fact that pornography destroys the family unit.  It’s evil and more to the point – it’s make-believe!  It’s not grounded in any kind of reality.  Real life is not a perfect body and sex on demand.  At the risk of sounding like a prude – I’m glad there’s much more to life than that.  🙂

IRON SHARPENS IRON… FRIENDSHIP

TL IRON SHARPENS IRON (2)

Friends come,
Friends go,
But a true friend is there to watch you grow.  – Florence

I LOVE how God brings people together!  Christian friends have one best friend – Jesus.  Our Lord allows our paths to cross and great things happen!  Once you tell the Lord you will live your life for Him – and He brings others who have committed their lives to Him as well into your life – it is so cool.

I love it when collaboration mixes with divine inspiration to bring information to  the entire nation… I do – I really really do!!!  – Linda Palmer

What happens when we say YES to the Lord?  Doors open that would not have opened.  We grow in ways we could never imagine.  The more of God’s family I connect with, the better it gets.  I’ve had opportunities to help authors and artists and photographers who seek to honor God.  I’m tickled to be a helper – I really am!

I love the body of Christ.  We lift and encourage one another.  We see the best in each other and serve with the best we have to offer because we understand that what we do is not for men, but for God.  We don’t seek to please people – we seek to please God.

A BEAUTIFUL FRIENDSHIP

We are friends…  with creatures but also with other people.  Jesus is our best friend and our friendships center around Him.  People who believe that Christianity is just a religion really don’t understand the depth of our faith.  Love is the reason we do what we do and are what we are – the love of God through His Son, Jesus.

Are you wrinkled with burden? Come to God for a faith lift.  – Author Unknown

It’s true iron sharpening when you have Christian friends.  When Christ is in the center and we leave the good times, the bad times and the in-between times with Him.  No judgments and no lectures – we just pray for one another.  We leave it all at the cross – and forgive.  🙂
