A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

TL A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART (23)SOCIALISMLEARN ABOUT SOCIALISM

I’m old enough to remember when the words socialism and communism were regarded as evil in the United states.  The freedoms and capitalism our country was founded on were to be guarded and protected above everything else.

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb deciding what to have for dinner. Liberty is a well-armed lamb.  – Benjamin Franklin

Since I don’t have children, I’m not up to speed on what is being taught in the school system, but it’s my suspicion that history lessons are not at the top of the list…  am I right?  A couple of encounters with the youth of Wichita, Kansas has shown me that they are not well-rounded in their knowledge of history.  People, if we don’t know where we came from and learn from past mistakes – we are surely bound to repeat them!

The socialist candidate makes it all sound so appealing, doesn’t he?  He’s going to GIVE some folks everything at no cost – well, isn’t that special???  Guess what…  A college education will still cost somebody – do they care about that?  Somebody’s taxes will go sky-high through the roof to GIVE others everything for free.  Does that matter?  Raising taxes by as much as 98% which is just crazy…  to GIVE a college education to another.

There is something in the capitalist world that accomplishes the same thing – they’re called SCHOLARSHIPS.  There are scholarships by the truckload that yes, have to be EARNED, but if you want a healthy chunk of your college education paid for – that’s possible in a capitalist nation!  No, nobody is going to give you a free lunch – because as my mother always told me – there’s no such thing as a FREE lunch.  Somebody is going to pay for the lunch – please remember that.

DIE FOR YOU

I love America, I love my freedom AND I want to uphold our precious CONSTITUTION.  Never in the history of this country has there been a socialist running for president.  I don’t want to feel the Bern…  our country would soon feel the burn from the Bern.  The insane part is that he’s not even a registered democrat…  huh???  How does that happen???

Look, I’m just asking that you have all the facts about Socialism before you vote.  As always, it’s my prayer that we are less red, less blue – and blend into a united purple as we kneel in prayer before our GOD to seek His face and turn from our wicked ways – only then will our sin-sick nation be supernaturally healed.

PRAYER FOR AMERICABe an informed voter.  Please read about the practice of SOCIALISM in other countries and pray in these last days before the election.  🙂

PSALM 10:17 ON 10/17

TL PSALM 10 17 ON 10 17

You, LORD, hear the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry.  – Psalm 10:17 (NIV)

LORD, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them. – Psalm 10:17 (NLT)

O LORD, you hear the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear.  – Psalm 10:17 (ESV)

O LORD, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will strengthen their heart, You will incline Your ear.  – Psalm 10:17 (NASB)

LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear.  – Psalm 10:17 (KJV)

LORD, you have heard the request of the oppressed; you make them feel secure because you listen to their prayer.  – Psalm 10:17 (NET)

I’m not typically a translation junkie, but today I just could not settle on just one translation!  I believe there are powerful meanings in certain words.  If we could somehow put all these translations together, wow…  it would be terrific, wouldn’t it?

First we see that the LORD hears.  Only one translation skips the hearing and declares that the LORD knows without hearing first.  Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m encouraged by this verse already!

Then we see that He hears and knows our request, desire and hope.  Again, this makes me smile for sure.  My faith is strengthened right away.

It says that the LORD hears and knows the request, desire and hope of the oppressed, humble, afflicted and helpless.  Have you ever felt any of these?  I sure have.  Aren’t you thankful to God for this truth?

Then the verse varies even more from translation to translation.  The LORD hears and knows the request, desire and hope of the oppressed, humble, afflicted and helpless.  The LORD will make them feel secure, prepare and strengthen their heart, encourage them and hear their cry!

It just gets better…

The LORD hears and knows the request, desire and hope of the oppressed, humble, afflicted and helpless.  The LORD will make them feel secure, prepare and strengthen their heart, encourage them and hear their cry!  He will incline His ear to them and listen to their prayer and comfort them.

This is for those of us who know that God hears and knows our request, desire and hope.  We feel oppressed, have been humbled along life’s way, leaving us afflicted and helpless.  We know that God will restore our security, prepare and strengthen our hearts, encourage us and hear us when we cry.  We trust that He will tilt His head, which inclines His ear so He can carefully and intently listen to our prayer.  After we have prayed, we know without a doubt that God has comforted us and restored our sense of purpose so we can keep serving Him in whatever way He desires.

THROUGH GOD'S EYES

Somebody needs to praise God for Who He Is…    🙂

2 CHRONICLES 7:14 ON 7/14

TL 2 CHRONICLES 7 14 ON 7 14

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.  – 2 Chronicles 7:14

The Bible is known as Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth (B.I.B.L.E.), and of all the instructions in there, these are, in my opinion, the most important ones of all.  In America, we have become the most torn, divided, weak, ungodly nation.  We need to humble ourselves before God and pray with humble hearts and spirits, asking forgiveness for wrong attitudes, seeking His answers.  He promises to heal our land…  but there’s something we have to do first.

AMERICA'S IN HIS HAND

So often we are tempted to seek answers from other sources.  Just today I watched an advertisement on television for physic readings.  Of course, they cost $1 per minute, but promise that all your answers will be revealed to you in the reading.

We must seek answers for ourselves and our nation from a higher being – God!  We don’t need to speak with people who read stars – but to God who made them!  Putting all pride aside, humbly bow before the heavenly Father with no hidden agenda – but a genuine desire for His wisdom for our future.  Humility is something you can fake before other people, but remember, it’s not something that you can fake in front of God.  He already knows your heart before you begin to pray.

Do Americans even admit to wrongdoing anymore?  Do we feel any degree of shame?  Do we say the word SIN?  Is everything just a mistake… an OOPS – as we half-heartedly laugh it off?  Is God laughing at sin?  I don’t think so.

There’s a reward for faithfulness…  He will HEAL our Land!  Does it need healed?  Do we understand that if we do this – He will do that?  Do we care?  Does it matter?  Hello…  is this thing on?

Here’s what trips us up…  TURN FROM THEIR WICKED WAYS…  we don’t WANT to do that because we’re having too much fun!  There’s even debate among Christians as to what IS considered sinful these days!  Are there consequences to sin?  You have to ask?  Look around you.  Is it easy to walk the straight and narrow?  Of course it isn’t.  Is it worth trying?  Well…  yeah.  The thing is, we have a loving and kind heavenly Father who will forgive our SIN in Jesus’ Name.  Every time we slip – He will forgive us – but we need to humble ourselves before Him and ask.

OK – so we have our B.I.B.L.E. and we’ve read the instructions to ensure that America gets healed by God – His promise to us.  What are we waiting for?   🙂

1 PETER 5:6 ON 5/6

1 PETER 5 6 ON 5 6

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.  – 1 Peter 5:6

pig-576329
When I need to be humbled, I pray, “Dear God, please HOG TIE ME & STICK DUCT TAPE OVER MY MOUTH!!!”

We know when we see the word therefore in a verse, we need to look at the previous verse to see what that verse is there for.

You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.  – 1 Peter 5:5

Want God’s grace?  Be humble.  How?  Pray.

Have you ever been tempted to pop off about something under the guise of “righteous indignation”, but felt the Spirit of God “check” you about what you’re getting ready to say?  We are to humble ourselves and stay under the safety and protection of God’s mighty hand.  Why?  Because if we just stay still and pray…  GOD will handle it – better than we can even dream of handling it.

I’ve decided to say my prayer for humility more – and engage in worthless debate less.

DEAR GOD,  PLEASE HOG TIE ME & STICK DUCT TAPE OVER MY MOUTH!!!  IN JESUS’ NAME, AMEN.

Humility – it’s a deliberate act of discipline and faith.  We need to trust that our God will right the wrong in the world – and what do these verses tell us?  God will GIVE GRACE TO THE HUMBLE & LIFT YOU UP IN DUE TIME.

What’s the secret to success?  There are no secrets.  Be humble.  Be hungry.  And always be the hardest worker in the room.  – Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

A few times I have actually “popped off” and then sort of retro-prayed the prayer – and have had some amazing results.  It is literally as if no one heard what I said.  I know that is God at work on my behalf.

One time I actually asked my friend if she heard what I said and she said, “No, Linda – I don’t remember you saying that!”  I smile, hug her and whisper “Thank You, Lord!”  🙂

MY WAY DAY

TL 2-17 MY WAY DAY

Today is MY WAY DAY!!!  It’s a day to disregard anybody else’s way of doing anything and forging ahead in your own unique style.  Stop laughing – it’ll be okay!  If I want to write at 2am and sleep until 10am the next morning, I will.  How do you like them apples???

Two popular artists recorded a song called My Way – the first was Frank Sinatra in 1969.

That’s the recording my mom liked best.  She was a fan of ol’ blue eyes.  The recording I like best was done by Elvis a few years later, in 1977.

I tried to play My Way at a talent show in 1975 at my junior high school.  I practiced and was as ready as could be, but the brilliant mind who put the program together put the most gifted pianist in the whole school right before me.  His name is David and he played The Entertainer with no music.  He wowed everyone, including me.  I wanted to run away.  In retrospect, I easily could have bowed out – but at that age, you don’t realize you have those kinds of choices.

Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back to loneliness.  – Maya Angelou, Gather Together in My Name

I went ahead.  I followed the most awesome pianist in the school onto the stage, put my book up on the piano and with trembling fingers, I played My Way.

It was a flop!  I was humiliated – they booed me off and I cried as I exited the stage.  Kids are cruel – really cruel.  But I’d love to tell the person or persons who scheduled me behind the best pianist in the school just how STUPID that was!  It was like someone wanted to set me up for failure.  It made me stronger in the long run.  God doesn’t leave us in despair for long.  He loves me no matter what.  I learned how to fail forward!  I went on to perform in recitals and contests, and I was church pianist at twelve and played for both the adult and youth choirs.  I was determined to be happy in Jesus!  I let go of my way and did things His Way!  It was best for me.

No kid in high school feels as though they fit in.  The smartest thing that I ever heard anybody say about high school was that “If you look back upon that as the happiest time of your life, I don’t want to know you.”  – Stephen King

Life goes on – indeed.   I let the pain go but kept the lesson tucked away in the back of my mind.

So today, I will do things my way – it will not be the best and I know it – but it will be my personal best.  My name is not David, it is Linda and I know how to play the piano, but I’m not a performer – not by a long shot.  Never wanted to be.

There is one remnant of that day left in my music book.  The day of the talent show, my mama drew a happy face on my music and wrote “Good Luck.  I love you!”  I look at that music now and it’s a precious memory because it was from my mom.  Whether I played well or not – whether my music was memorized or not makes no difference.  My mom had faith that I could play it and do well.  That meant a lot to me.

I was telling stories on the piano long before I ever directed a movie…  I like the image of the piano player:  The piano player sits down, play, tells his story, and then gets up and leaves, letting the music speak for itself. – Clint Eastwood

Sometimes the pianist is a female…  jus’ sayin’…  I played My Way…  MY WAY.  When you’re in school, it’s important that the other kids approve of the way you play – or the way you do anything else.  But as an adult, I’m not that concerned about what others think of my “performance”.  Take me – leave me.  Whatever.

When you stop chasing the wrong things you give the right things a chance to catch you.  – Karen Lorimer

I would suggest that if you celebrate My Way Day, you should separate yourself from the rest of the pack.  Don’t give anyone an opportunity to compare your way to anyone else’s way.  As a young person I learned not to stay in anyone’s shadow or follow a perfectly executed performance.  It’s a painful lesson, but one that has helped me more than once.   :-/

TELL AN OLD JOKE DAY

TL 7-24 TELL AN OLD JOKE DAY

7-24 THE FLIGHT OF THE HUMBLE BEE
Humor is a reminder that no matter how high the throne one sits on, one sits on one’s bottom.   – Taki

I am amazed at super moms, soccer moms, karate moms, piano lesson moms and all other categories of moms out there! God knew before the beginning of time that I was not the type of person who could do what these great women do. I’m the one who stands on the sidelines, cheering them on and offering them a shoulder to lean or sometimes cry on when they need it.

My mom had a favorite joke she told me when I was sick.

Q: How do you make a tissue dance?
A: Put a little boogie in it!

Today is TELL AN OLD JOKE DAY.  I know a joke isn’t going to make everything better – but it could bring a smile to your face.  So…  let’s see – hmm…  let’s listen in to this conversation.

ha ha…

I’m thankful for a mom that told old jokes all the time.  She was always trying to get some reaction from me, and it was usually a shaking head and rolling eyes.  Back then we didn’t say “whatever”, but I imagine I would have done that too.

Humor is perhaps a sense of intellectual perspective:  an awareness that some things are really important, others not; and that the two kinds are most oddly jumbled in everyday affairs.   – Christopher Morley

Here’s an old joke I used to tell my dad.

I never wanted to believe that my Dad was stealing from his job as a road worker.  But when I got home, all the signs were there.

Then I’d usually give him a big grin and an arr arr arr…

Life is tough, so take a moment to tell an old joke today.  You might just make somebody’s day a lot brighter.  Joking around with family members relieves stress and draws you closer.

Here’s an old joke for the road: A farmer woke up on a Sunday morning to a terrible snow storm. The road was not visible. He started his tracker and drove to church making the only tracks he saw. He pulled up to church to see the lights on and went in and greeted the preacher. The two of them stood there and talked for a while. When no one else came the preacher asked, “What do you want to do?” The old farmer said, “Well preacher, if I had only one cow show up, I would still feed it.” So the preacher went to the podium and preacher a full message, calling for repentance and good deeds. When he concluded he walked down and shook hands with the old farmer and asked, “What did you think?” The old farmer said, “Well, if I had only one cow showed up I would feed it. But I would not give it the whole load.”

The flight of the humble-bee. Moms (and dads, for that matter) who do what they gotta do for their families and walk humbly with their God. Love you guys and praying for you as always!

THANKS LIVING DAY 39

TL THANKSGIVING

PRAYER ABOUT TREASURES

So if you reached into the treasure chest of God’s blessings, (which, by the way, never empties) how many blessings would you pull out? How many could you hold? Would you be shy and not want to take too many because you don’t want to appear selfish? Or, would you get a firm grip on every blessing you possibly could?

Well it’s Thanksgiving Day, and I pray for you every possible blessing from God’s endless bounty of blessings! Don’t be shy, step up and claim them from your Lord and humbly thank Him for His goodness to you! He wants only the best for His children. He loves us so much – we can’t even imagine.

The Psalmist, David, wrote this observation in God’s Holy Word, The Bible:

I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. – Psalm 37:25

Have faith today that God will meet all your needs. This Thanksgiving you have so much to be grateful for. I know you already know that, but I’m reminding you of the obvious.

Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His love endures forever. – 1 Chronicles 16:34

HAPPY THANKSGIVUKAH!!! Now… pass me that punkin’ pie!!!

I wrote this little Thanksgiving poem/prayer for my friend Meri. I want to give she and her wonderful family a special shout out this year! ❤
