FALL IN LOVE WITH JESUS

Today I have roast beef, carrots, and potatoes cooking in the crock-pot.  There’s nothing like anticipating a wonderful, warm home-cooked meal.  It takes several hours to cook on low, but it’s so worth the wait.  The meat is always so tender, and the vegetables are done just right!  I know it’s going to taste so good!  It will be done in its own time and I can’t rush it – and wouldn’t even if I could.

Vegetables are interesting but lack a sense of purpose when unaccompanied by a good cut of meat. ~Fran Lebowitz

We are to taste and see that the Lord is good!  I love the Lord because He keeps His promises!  If we will put our trust in Him, He will fill our life with blessings!  My cup of blessings overflows!  He gives me so much more than I deserve; but He blesses as He sees fit, not when I read off my laundry list of needs and wants.  God is not a vending machine.

God is not a cosmic bell boy for whom we can press a button to get things done. ~Harry Emerson Fosdick

I have so much to be thankful for.  If I started a list, I doubt it would be completed the same day.  I’d be typing on that list this time tomorrow!  As long as I keep trusting God with my life, He will pour out blessings on my life.  To be blessed is to find favor with God.  Some people think that a blessing is something you wish on someone else, like when a person sneezes and you say, “God Bless You!”  I suppose it is that, but how sad if a person thinks that’s all a blessing is!

According to good ol’ Webster, a blessing is a favor or gift bestowed by God, thereby bringing happiness.  When we place our faith and trust in God, we can expect blessings in our lives!  This is a promise of God – and God cannot lie – and He will not break His promises.

As we place our trust in God, He blesses us and we are happy!  In the bargain, we receive the Father’s joy, love, peace, and wisdom!  Call me crazy, but that doesn’t sound like a bad thing to me!  As a matter of fact, it sounds better than the roast beef, carrots, and potatoes cooking in the crock-pot!  Only two more hours to go!  🙂

Spring Into God’s Word

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.  – 2 Timothy 2:15

I’m not one to voice righteous indignation very often.  I do my best to be a peace-loving, joyful child of God.  But sometimes I think silence is not golden, but plain yellow with cowardice.  I must speak to something that has bothered me for some months now.  This is a taping of The View from last February:

I’m livid.  Absolutely livid.  I know the Vice President does not read my humble little blog (yeah, right) – but I want him to know that there are MILLIONS of Christian folk in America and probably around the world praying for him.  Believers support fellow believers and lift them up in prayer, Joy!  Let’s call it a PERK!  It’s actually proved to be a great blessing in my life.

It’s often through the Words of Scripture that God speaks to His children (yes, Joy – God SPEAKS to us and we’re perfectly sane, thank you very much).  I pray that one day Joy, like the Apostle Paul, will see the light!  Literally.  Paul, I’m sure you recall, experienced a very, shall we say – dramatic conversion that left him blinded by the light (Acts 9:1-31).  You’ll also recall that he killed Christians before his conversion.  What a conversion that was, eh?  If God was to convert Joy, can you imagine how great that would be for Christianity?  She could do so much good in this world with God on her side.  Now she’s just making money.  Will she take it with her to eternity?  Um…  I don’t think so.

So, Christians, it’s not a far stretch to conclude that if we do not carve out the time to read the Bible, we will not hear from our Father.  If He’s not speaking to us, how will we hear?  The answer is…  we won’t.  Of course, prayer is the other way the Lord speaks to our hearts, but the combination of Scripture reading and prayer is the winning way to know exactly what God wants you to know.

It’s a faith thing, Joy…  I really pray that one day you’ll “get” it.  It’s very sad that you get paid well to make a mockery of my faith.  If you don’t understand it, the least you can do is RESPECT it and stop putting it down.  Mental illness is a serious accusation – not to be mocked and certainly not to be used in the same sentence with Christianity.  Stop it!  Shame on ABC for letting this continue!  I refuse to watch that network – I’m done with them until they pull “The View”.

So let’s spring into God’s Word, the Holy Bible.  We rely on our Heavenly Father to direct our paths, and there are so many verses to help us!

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.  – Proverbs 3:5-6

Our own understanding of things is often more of a misunderstanding.  If we will trust God, lean on Him and submit to Him, then He will make a way for us to walk that is straight and He will keep us in His peace and protection.  God can be trusted and His promises never fail.  He will never let you down.  If you want to reap a bounty of beauty – this is where to begin!  Our Lord wants us to be discerning and wise in everything.  He wants us to search His Word for ourselves and discover truths, then apply them to our life.

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.  – James 1:5

Ask God – that means we PRAY to God.  But see, it’s not a one-way conversation.  HE GIVES GENEROUSLY to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you!  Now, that’s not to say that God is a bubblegum machine.  We don’t insert a quarter and get a gumball.  Sometimes the gumball is not the color we may have wanted.  Sometimes it’s not the flavor we hoped for.  Sometimes it feels as though the gumball got stuck in the machine somewhere – but when God doesn’t answer a prayer just the way we think He should, it doesn’t mean that His ways are not the best ways.  It means that I need to trust that His way is better than my way.  Is it easy?  No.  Is it imperative that I learn to do that?  Yes.  He knows which gumball I need and when I need it.

So, you see, the insane thing to do is talk to God and not stop talking long enough to let Him speak in return!  Who asks a question and just keeps talking, not waiting for the answer?  In faith, we receive answers from God’s precious Holy Spirit.  Faith… it’s better felt than telt.

We ask for wisdom, then trust that God hears our prayer and is working on our behalf the second we get finished praying!  Actually – He already knows what we need help with, and I think He starts the work before we even ask for help, but He still wants us to ask.  No parent wants their child to just assume things will be done for them.  They want to be asked and kept in the loop.  We are God’s children and it’s the same concept.  He wants to be kept in the loop.

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.  – John 10:27

We need The Bible – not just to keep on the coffee table gathering dust.  Open it every day and see what God has to say through it, to your heart.  🙂

Even Worse Luck

I’m fighting a migraine headache – and reading this quote is not helping it!  LOL!  So, we should be glad we have bad luck because it’s protecting us from something even worse?  Hang on, Sloopy…  let me read that upside-down because it could make more sense that way.

You know, there are days when a train makes you late for an appointment, or a little family of ducklings need to cross the road and you wait patiently in your car for them to get safely to the other side.  Those are seemingly obstacles that make you late and feeling crazy…  but wait – maybe those are God’s way of keeping you out of harm’s way.

People who do luck will say it’s just worse than bad luck.  Here we go, not giving any credit to the Creator.  If I’m detained along the way, I try to take time to thank God for it instead of get all angry about it.  That is easier to do since I don’t have a job to show up for, by the way.  Maybe if those “obstacles” had not been there, something awful would have happened, such as a wreck.

The LORD keeps you from all harm and watches over your life.  – Psalm 121:7

Do we believe in God’s promises?  If we do, then we must also believe that His method of carrying out those promises could include putting an inconvenience in our path once in a while to save us from harmful consequences.  Yes, He loves us enough to do that.

Luck is too random and wrapped in chance to even fathom that it has varying degrees…  good and bad – good and bad and worse than bad???  What???  Pass the Excedrin Migraine…  yeah.

Let’s call it what it is…  God’s supernatural protection over our lives.  How about going a step further, and thanking Him for it when we recognize it?  I’m not always great at recognizing it, but I’m trying to do a better job.

I love that God keeps me safe and protects me against harm!  I claim His promises on my life and praise Him for them.

And guess what?  That is that for me too!  I think the Excedrin is starting to kick in – great!  🙂

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

TL A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART1

And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.  – Romans 5:5

As I come to the close of my series about the kind of heart I want for 2017, it’s only fitting to make this the last (but by no means the least) verse.  This year, I want a heart that is full of God’s love and His precious Holy Spirit.

I want God’s love in my heart, knowing that I can rely on His promises in my life.  To know that whatever struggles or circumstances may come along, my Lord is there with me, working on my behalf – it means everything to me.

Christian hope does not disappoint or deceive as hope of this world does.  Folks who have hope of this world live on an emotional roller coaster.  There’s hope – then hope is dashed and their hopeless.  What a horrible cycle and awful way to live.  Hope in the promises of God through Christ are dependable because our God does not lie!  If He makes a promise, you can rest on it and rely on it.  That’s the love I want in my life.

We’re fast approaching Valentine’s Day – a day that is all about love.  It’s fun-filled with candy and flowers and hearts all over the place.  Fine and good for a temporary emotional high, but hardly the sort of “love” that is lasting.  Real love hung on a cross and died for me – and for you.his-love-is-extra-large

I want every good thing that the Lord has to give me, don’t you?  God is the Great Physician and does miraculous heart surgery and soul surgery.  I want both this year.  His hope, peace, grace, mercy and love poured into my heart generously – it’s my prayer that He will do that for me as I live my life.  I welcome God’s Holy Spirit in my heart this year.  🙂

HEBREWS 11:1 ON 11/1

tl-11-1-hebrews-11-1-on-11-1

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  – Hebrews 11:1

faith

I think sometimes we memorize verses and can spout them off without pausing…  but do we stop and think about what they mean?  We should.  Just because you have memorized 1,000 Bible verses and can say them by heart – well, that doesn’t mean that they are necessarily imbedded in your heart – see what I’m saying?

This is one of those verses that most church-going young children are taught to memorize – one of the first verses we are required to commit to memory.  Hopefully, as it’s committed to memory, it’s also imbedded in the heart.

I’ve observed that frequently where we see the word FAITH – the word HOPE is not far away!  Coincidence???  I think not.

The book of Hebrews is meant to show us how Christians should live.  We should be radical in our belief, willing to take risks and love in a sacrificial manner.  As we read on, our confidence in God’s promises should deepen and our hope remain steadfast in God alone.

There are two key words in this passage – (1) SUBSTANCE and (2) EVIDENCE.  Only by faith are we able to see the invisible fingerprints of God on the things He has made…  by that, I mean the beauty, order and awesome greatness in creation and in our daily life.  These are the evidence that God is in control.  Through faith we can clearly see God’s fingerprints everywhere!

Non-believers see but are blind to what they’re seeing – and they don’t see fingerprints – God’s or anyone else’s.  Without FAITH, we can’t recognize the significance in a given situation.  If true faith is on board and we are open to the leading of God’s precious Holy Spirit, we see and trust God for answers instead of calling the psychic hotline on TV.

We read God’s promises and have faith that God will walk with us today, of course.  The comforting news; however, is that He will be there at the end of this life and the beginning of eternity.  I love this poem by Lucinda:

into-our-future

We walk by faith – not by sight.  When we cannot see physically, we understand by faith.  It’s a spiritual act that sees the fingerprints of God.  It’s not a matter of BELIEVING HARDER…  that’s worldly thinking and known as wishful thinking – it goes in the file along with the tooth fairy, cupid, little green men and Santa Claus.

OK – I didn’t really want to go there…  but I will.  FAITH DOES NOT CREATE WHAT WE HOPE FOR!  That’s stinkin’ thinkin’ and false teaching and preaching.  That name it and claim it, God is a vending machine theology is so far off base.  That is not to say we cannot CLAIM the promises of God – that is perfectly fine.

Faith is a SPIRITUAL PERCEPTION of God’s promises.  What promises, you ask?  I’m so glad you asked!

Here ya go!  http://www.bibleinfo.com/en/questions/how-many-bible-promises-are-there

There are SO many promises from our loving Heavenly Father are just waiting for you.  Read through these verses and pray.  Prepare to be amazed at how God will work in your life.  He’s faithful when we exercise our faith.  It’s true!  🙂

COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

TL A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART (3)It’s Nothing Day…  I’m celebrating by doing nothing.  I’m just watching the unfolding of world events – happy that the hostages are FINALLY free.  Sad that Iran is going to get $120 BILLION from the U.S.  Guess what that $$$ will be used for???  We’re so stupid.

That’s about it…  I’m going back to doing nothing now.  It’s in God’s hands – His very capable hands!  This is the day the LORD has made – I will rejoice and be GLAD in it.

You totally sang that!

I’ll leave you with a poem from Lucinda – what a great way to celebrate Nothing Day!

GOD IS BIGGER, HIGHER, DEEPER AND MORE POWERFUL than ANYTHING!  Let’s just remember that as the craziness in the world unfolds.  We know these things have to take place – I think it calls this stuff BIRTH PAINS…  which I have no personal experience with, but I know it’s not pleasant – but ultimately worth it.  Every woman says they forget all about the pain once they see that precious baby.

So – let’s just keep our eye on the real goal – the real prize today and always.  We need to keep trusting God in all circumstances and try not to let the ignorance of our government get under our skin.  It’s absolutely insane – but God is so much wiser and this is HIS timing…  these are the last days, folks.  Let’s hold on and make it to the end.

It’s Saturday, a perfect day to relax, reflect and do NOTHING.  Enjoy!  🙂

GENESIS 8:22 ON 8/22

TL GENESIS 8 22 ON 8 22

As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.  – Genesis 8:22

A promise from God along with a sign

We can rely on God to allow the seasons to keep going with no interruption as long as the earth endures.  God is so reliable and His promises are true!

Of course in this present day, we wonder why there have to be floods in some parts of the world while other parts seem to be burning up.  I don’t have answers to those questions, but I do keep the folks in those areas in my thoughts and prayers every day.  We just need to trust God’s sovereign wisdom in these situations.  I’m not omnipotent, but He is.

The rainbow in the sky after the rain is packed with promises and makes every Christian smile with a sense of contentment with their Creator.  I believe most of us take a moment to silently pray, thanking God for giving us another chance to be the people He wants us to be in Him.

We only want to please our Father and make Him smile.  When we see evidence of His promises in the rainbow, it makes us want to be better in our faith.  It makes us want to walk even closer to God.

I suppose we can also look at this scripture and be reminded of a time of sowing the precious seed of the Word, which at times brings about a harvest, gathering souls into it.  Then there is a winter season, cold, with things seeming withered and dead.  Then there are summer seasons, when everything looks smiling and cheerful.  But sometimes summer brings with it intense heat – which could represent the persecution of God’s people.  I pray He is pleased with what we do with this wonderful life He gave us.

HE IS PLEASED

We have God’s promise that the seasons will continue until the time when He will turn to Jesus and tell Him to return to earth to gather His own and bring them to Him.  I look forward to that time, don’t you?  🙂
