A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

The Christian race is compared to a race in the Bible.  I’m so thankful we don’t actually have to run a race…  am I the only one?  We’re instructed to overcome and stay true to God’s way and walk on His path throughout our lives.  Is it easy?  Not always.  Is it worth it?  Yes…  yes it sure is!  I’ve heard that stop, drop and roll doesn’t work in hell.

Even if we didn’t have the promise of eternal life in Heaven, just knowing that God’s love and His protection in my life is worth it.  Because of the sacrifice Christ made on the cross, those who were about to be spewed from God’s mouth are now invited to sit with Him on His throne.

If Christ is yours today, make sure to give Him praise for it!The gospel of Jesus Christ is not complicated – but He knows that we as individuals…  our thoughts and actions and wills…  they’re quite complicated.  God gave us free will because He didn’t want to be worshiped by robots – programmed to worship Him.  He wants us to have a desire to relate with Him.  That’s why prayer is such a precious gift – it’s our way of communicating with God through Christ.  And, yes, it is a two-way conversation.  We talk and we listen.

Because Christ was raised from the dead by God, people, though flawed, weak, stumbling and bumbling – are welcome to have a personal relationship with Him.  Will you choose to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ today?  I hope so.  When you ask Christ into your heart and life, with Lucinda, you can say, “You Are Mine” – praise God.

I like it!  I really do.  🙂

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

Folks in our day and age don’t say the word TREAD much – we say walk more often than not; however, the word TREADMILL is not only familiar to most of us, but a regular part of healthy living.  I really hate using the treadmill at the gym – but it’s honestly not because I’m lazy!  The chronic sciatica I’ve suffered with for over 30 years has held me back – I have this thing about hurting…  I don’t dig it.  My leg burns from the moment I wake up in the morning until I blissfully go to sleep at night.  I’m very happy when I’m asleep.

Through the years I’ve done different things to make it better – right after the injury I was in physical therapy for several months – nearly a year.  I was on strong pain medications but as we all know, they have unwelcome side effects.  I decided they weren’t worth it – so I weaned myself off of them and tried to keep moving.  It hurts like crazy, but I have to keep moving.

Today I have no brain fog and other effects of strong pain meds have disappeared.  I have given the issue to God.  Don’t roll your eyes at me…  it’s true.  Now I take 2 Aleve in the morning and move as much as I can.  God’s helping me, but I had no doubt He would.

A pastor’s wife once told me, “Everybody has SOMETHING.”  At first, I thought that was her not so subtle way of telling me she didn’t want to hear about my issues (which I don’t recall sharing at the time anyway).  But I put a pin in the comment and stuck it in the back of my mind.  She’s right – we’re human and we get tired, weary, discouraged at times, and close to quitting.  Then – God steps in.  He never shows up early – but He steps in – just in time – His perfect time.  I’ve found that to be true and I’ve heard testimony after testimony that bears this out.

I can’t explain how my messed up back with a burning sciatic nerve has the ability to walk on the treadmill, ride the bike, and do other machines…  it’s all God – He has given me the strength and the GOD-bility to keep moving.  I praise Him for helping me every day!

God helps us do what we have to do – but even more exciting…  He helps us do what we like to do – and most writers would say…  what they absolutely must do!  God has put such a desire within us to write, and everybody knows…  a writer WRITES… about anything, anytime, anywhere.  Put me in an elevator by myself and shut the door.  If I have a pencil and some paper (or a napkin, preferably unused, but…) – I can come up with something – it could be about the color of the buttons…  lol.  Maybe there’s a fly in the elevator with me.  Hmm…  bonus!

If you’re feeling like you can’t tread…  or walk on the treadmill…  remember, with God and His strength – you can!  Climb those mountains like a deer!  🙂

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

Lucinda says it all here in her poem, doesn’t she?  Before we knew God’s way of living, we all dressed in dingy duds with holes in weird places.  We were unaware of anything better until we met Christ.  He stood us up, dusted us off, set us straight on the right path.  The clothes we wore before weren’t even good enough to give to charity – they had to be burned.

We have a brand new wardrobe, thanks to the mercy and love of the Lord.  He teaches us every day about His ways and His will for us.  He loves us just the way we are, but He loves us way too much to leave us there.  It’s His desire that we grow in our faith and discover all the opportunities He sets before us – and yes, some of those are very scary – but once you give it to God and trust Him for the outcome, it gets less frightening.

Remember when God told Moses to speak to the people and Moses said, “You got to be kidding, Lord – I stutter!”  It may be paraphrased – okay – it’s definitely paraphrased heavily…  but basically – isn’t that what he was saying?  He said there’s no way he could take that on because he was disabled.  Can a dyslexic person write a blog?  You wouldn’t think so…  but God has other ideas sometimes.

Once we burn those old duds and put on the ones God wants us to wear…  weird stuff happens – weird in a good way.  Miracles happen that you would not believe – except you do believe it because you know how good God really is.

As you take on the attributes that God wants you to have, you don’t look at what is best for you, but what is best for someone else.  How can I help?  What can I pray for on your behalf?  When do you need my help?  Who can I tell about Jesus today?  Where can I share my faith?  The answer to God goes from “I can’t do that” to “With Your help, I can do anything if it’s Your will for my life.”  🙂

VALENTINE’S DAY

tl-2-14-valentines-day-2So many folks are lonely on Valentine’s Day.  Today’s post will be less about the romantic side and much more about the reality that – YES – GOD LOVES YOU!77-flavors

to-be-a-bridewithout-his-loveI hope the poetry today from Lucinda Berry Hill has been a great reminder that God really does love you.  He gives us the best gifts possible as we live our lives for Him.  God gives us friends, family and other people to love and care for.

God understands our prayers when they don’t make sense.  When all we can do is cry and mutter and sputter…  God gets that because He sees our heart and knows our intentions.  Why?  Because He loves us so much.

As God loves us, we are to love one another.  Husbands and wives pray for one another and protect one another.  Real love cannot exist apart from God – He’s in the center of every good relationship.

God not only sends special angels into our lives, but sometimes He even sends them back again if we forget to take notes the first time!  – Quoted in The Angels’ Little Instruction Book by Eileen Elias Freeman, 1994

Special angels???  Well…  sure – why not?  Billy Graham calls angels, “God’s secret agents” and we all need as much help as we can get, don’t we?  And yes, we should take notes the first time – but often we don’t, so they have to come back again.

God loves us, but sadly we don’t recognize some of the ways He shows His love toward us.  When was the last time you were driving and had a close call – nearly had a crash – but at the last second you stomped on the brake and everything turned out okay?  Did you thank God for that mercy, or did you congratulate yourself and pat yourself on the back for having such stellar ability behind the wheel?

When was the last time you were awakened by the song of a bird outside your window and thanked God that it was that instead of the blare of a train or a siren of some sort?  These little blessings often go completely unnoticed and God gets no credit or praise or even recognition for His attempt to show His love toward us.

Every blessing we receive regardless of the size is God’s way of showing His love toward us.  If we fail to show gratitude for the little things, surely we should not overlook the reason we are saved…  the sacrifice of Christ Jesus, God’s Son – on our behalf.  It’s only because of His death, burial and resurrection that we are able to make Heaven our home when this life is finished.  God has surely shown His marvelous love to us in big and small ways.  Happy Valentine’s Day. 🙂

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

Now I am about to go the way of all the earth. You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the LORD your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed.  – Joshua 23:14

The beliefs we hold dear are kept in our hearts.  We know that God will keep His word and His promises are true. ❤

Joshua’s dying words encourages us to not only listen to the teachings of God, but to know without a doubt that what He says, He will do.  Will it be in our time?  No, it will most assuredly not – it will be in God’s good time.  Most of us want to hurry God along, don’t we?  We say, “Hurry up, LORD!”  But in hindsight, which is always much more clear, we say, “Ah, now I understand why God did what He did when He did it!”

I think with maturity comes a better understanding of God’s timing in all things.  The more of these “ah-ha” moments we have in life, the greater our understanding becomes.  Every one of these times is tucked away in our heart – for future reference.  We eventually come to believe that in the past, God brought us through – so therefore, He will not fail me now!  ❤

Joshua knew that nothing would make people see how miserable they are, so much, as to see how happy they might have been.  Those who don’t know the Lord are truly without hope in this world.  ❤

How awesome it is that the saved have the privilege to watch and pray, to trust with all our hearts in God’s faithfulness, His power, and His amazing love.  We plead His promises and follow His commandments – knowing that if we should fail (and we will), His lovingkindness and forgiveness are at the ready.  He doesn’t want us to fail on purpose, but He knows just how human we are.  We pray against temptation always and that’s how we can be happy in our hearts – in life and in the afterlife.  ❤

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

TL A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART1

And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.  – Romans 5:5

As I come to the close of my series about the kind of heart I want for 2017, it’s only fitting to make this the last (but by no means the least) verse.  This year, I want a heart that is full of God’s love and His precious Holy Spirit.

I want God’s love in my heart, knowing that I can rely on His promises in my life.  To know that whatever struggles or circumstances may come along, my Lord is there with me, working on my behalf – it means everything to me.

Christian hope does not disappoint or deceive as hope of this world does.  Folks who have hope of this world live on an emotional roller coaster.  There’s hope – then hope is dashed and their hopeless.  What a horrible cycle and awful way to live.  Hope in the promises of God through Christ are dependable because our God does not lie!  If He makes a promise, you can rest on it and rely on it.  That’s the love I want in my life.

We’re fast approaching Valentine’s Day – a day that is all about love.  It’s fun-filled with candy and flowers and hearts all over the place.  Fine and good for a temporary emotional high, but hardly the sort of “love” that is lasting.  Real love hung on a cross and died for me – and for you.his-love-is-extra-large

I want every good thing that the Lord has to give me, don’t you?  God is the Great Physician and does miraculous heart surgery and soul surgery.  I want both this year.  His hope, peace, grace, mercy and love poured into my heart generously – it’s my prayer that He will do that for me as I live my life.  I welcome God’s Holy Spirit in my heart this year.  🙂

MATTHEW 6:26 ON 6/26

TL MATTHEW 6-26 ON 6-26

Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?  – Matthew 6:26

If you are feeling alone and forgotten today, this verse is just what you need!  We all need to be reminded that our God loves us more than anything!  In a world that seems to put less value and importance of the sanctity of human life – it does our hearts good to know that God values each and every one of us individually.

How can a great big God show such intimate and special concern for us?  I don’t have the answer to that question – but I know He does!

Our neighbors to the east have a bird feeder hanging on a metal shepherd’s hook.  They keep that feeder filled with bird food year around.  Sometimes I just stand at my kitchen window and watch the birds, especially in the wintertime.  I think of this verse and the old hymn, “His Eye is On the Sparrow”.  God provides for even the little sparrow – sometimes through folks like our neighbors.

My mom-in-love used to tear a slice of bread up almost every day to feed the birds.  She didn’t have much money, and I don’t think she ate very much herself, but she was bound and determined that the birds would not starve.  We used to remind her that God would take care of the birds, and she needed to take care of herself.  I don’t think she listened.  LOL!

It’s God’s desire to have an ongoing relationship with each of us throughout our life’s journey.  He loves us so much and cares about every little thing that’s happening in our lives.

HIS FAITHFULNESS RENEWS MEJust knowing that God takes such good care of the sparrows and cares even more about us…  makes me think that He will also cause us to soar like eagles!  With His help, we really do fly above the chaos that is life and run like an antelope without growing faint.

What’s stopping you today?  You are armed with the knowledge that the God of the universe favors you and wants to help you live life in a whole and happy way.  That leaves me feeling hopeful for the future.  🙂
