REPTILE AWARENESS DAY

Are you aware of reptiles?  I like to admire most of them from a distance…  no offense intended to anyone who owns them.  I do think that reptiles are some of God’s most beautiful creatures, so today I thought it might be nice to post some pretty photos.  My knowledge of reptiles would almost fill a thimble, so we’ll just let the pictures do the talking.crocodile-580612_1280

NATIONAL WILDLIFE DAY

TL 9-4 NATIONAL WILDLIFE DAY

http://www.nationalwildlifeday.com/

According to the Bible, animals point to God as creator, as love, as designer and artist.  They are a gift to man.  To be around wildlife lowers blood pressure (unless you are being chased by an angry lion), and causes us to feel more relaxed.

I remember the day Lucinda wrote this first poem.  I had read that baby zebras are called DAZZLES which made me chuckle.  When I think of something that dazzles, my mind goes more toward a disco ball from the 1970’s than to a baby zebra!  Well, it turns out I wrote a poem that talked about dazzles and she did too.  For some reason, I can’t find mine – LOL.  But here’s Lucinda’s poem, Dazzles, and Ducklings.

TURTLE JOE'S STORYYELLOW WARBLERCRITTERS GREAT & SMALLGOD'S NATUREFEATHERS ON A BIRDI love animals…  domestic and wild.  Once in a while, a photo of wildlife inspires me to write a poem or some other piece.  God has created such a diverse group of animals for us to enjoy and care for.  How could we not take a moment today to celebrate the magnificent world we live in?

I grew up watching Mutual of Omaha’s WILD KINGDOM.  Ah…  I see hands raising all over – you did too!  Wasn’t that a great show?

I never missed an episode!  Animals fascinate me.  The Creator obviously has a wonderful sense of humor and admires diversity in His creation.  We humans should take a cue from Him and start appreciating and admiring the differences in other human beings.  I heard a few AMENS I think.

An animal’s eyes have the power to speak a great language.  – Martin Buber

If you have a wildlife reserve or zoo in your area, maybe today would be a good time to visit, while the weather is a little cooler in most places, yet not too cold yet.  Of course, here in Wichita, we have the Sedgwick County Zoo.  It’s tempting to schedule a visit today – it does sound like fun.

Wildlife doesn’t always mean animals that live in the jungle.  Our turtle JOE lives in our lake, but he’s wild.  I wouldn’t dream of trying to trap him and take him in the house.  Our warbler flew in one morning when I was sitting out on the deck trying to concentrate.  What a noisy bird, but God had a message to convey, and if I had not heard the bird, I may not have taken the photo and the poem would not have been written.

Whether you get to go to a wildlife refuge, zoo or a park close to your house, observe God’s creation – think about how different every animal looks.  How some are big and slow while others are tiny and quick!  There is an endless supply of entertainment when you sit and watch animals…  or sometimes even people.  God takes such good care of us and I guess He wants to make sure we are not bored.  🙂

APPRECIATING GOD’S CREATION

TL APPRECIATING GOD'S CREATION

I am not a human being; I am a human becoming.  – Author Unknown

Today we get to watch a double feature!  John Coyote has been very busy in the last week or so, exploring the backwoods of Kansas.  He said both of these videos were shot ten miles southeast of Augusta, Kansas.

Man’s heart away from nature becomes hard.  – Standing Bear

Are you feeling stressed and overwhelmed today?  It’s amazing what a walk out in the wilderness can do to adjust your attitude!  Watching nature for just a bit can really make a difference. The older I get, the more convinced I am that the blessings of this earth are gifts from God.  When we stop to appreciate the creation and especially the Creator, we are expressing gratitude to Him and that is the most sincere form of praise!

You need special shoes for hiking — and a bit of a special soul as well.  – Terri Guillemets

Since I posted John’s last video, I’ve been asked if there are any resources on the internet regarding hiking and backpacking in Kansas.  I found three pretty good ones:

Wildernet is a great Web resource that has a lot of info on finding a good hiking trail.

AllTrails has a lot of good info on finding your next great trail.

Gorp has a great list of places to go as well as tips and guides.

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in making a living that we forget to enjoy life.  Most of us make our living in a stale, air-conditioned office building… I did for a long time.  It’s only since I’ve been retired that I’ve discovered a special place…  called – OUTSIDE.  If you can just leave your computer, calculator, cell phone and everything else behind that tethers you to your work…  just go outside for a while.GOD'S DESIGN

John has a great knowledge of the wild things that grow – and I enjoy learning new things all the time.  Thank you all for the wonderful feedback you leave on facebook and twitter.  There’s a great following here on Heart Hunger Blog and I appreciate every one of you!  Have a great May Day – and get outside for a while!  🙂

NATIONAL FROG MONTH

TL APRIL IS NATIONAL FROG MONTHAccording to fairy tales, these rather slimy creatures turn into a prince when you kiss them…  um…  I don’t know that to be a fact, but I do know that they sing out loud and strong after it rains here in Wichita!  Sometimes we refer to a heavy rain here in Kansas as a toad strangler…  but it doesn’t really hurt the frogs.  They still croak in sweet harmony when the rain is over.YOU MATTERIt’s so easy to take the sounds of nature for granted.  We hear the frogs croak, the birds chirp and the wind rustling the leaves on the trees – but do we stop to thank God for any of it?  I admit I don’t always…  but once in a while I sit outside and just take it all in, and I have to close my eyes and say a little prayer of thanks to God – I thank Him for my sense of hearing and for the familiar sounds that let me know that everything is okay in my world.Linda - Quote - Frog Jumping Day-screenshot

I’m so thankful that I grew up in the country…  we didn’t have a pond close by, but we had very deep ditches, and every year I got to watch the little tadpoles swimming around.  It seems like a simple childhood activity, but those are some of the happiest memories I hold dear today.children-767034_1920tadpoles-338627_1920It was really great to visit my grandparents on the farm in the spring…  the frogs and tiny tadpoles in their pond were fun to watch – and there were more of them.  sunbeam-292987_1920

I love to watch the little baby animals in the springtime, don’t you?  New life…  new experiences…  new hope!

Of course, we know the acronym for F.R.O.G. – it is FULLY RELY ON GOD!    Let’s keep that in mind today as we appreciate His creation – frogs! FULLY RELY ON GODBABIES IN THE SPRINGTIME

If you have children, make sure they get to see something other than the screen of their new phone.  Show them the babies of springtime…  show them the tadpoles swimming around in the pond.  The wonders of nature and the way God set things up – are amazing for kids of all ages!  I hope that today you will slow down and sit down outside…  close your eyes and take it all in.  🙂

COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

TL A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART (30)

John sent me a great video!  He said this is a hidden creek 10 miles Southeast of Augusta, Kansas.  His appreciation for God’s creation makes me want to go out and plant a garden.  Okay, at the very least, it makes me want to go outside and make mud pies!  🙂

Under the giving snow blossoms a daring spring.  – Terri Guillemets

FLOWERS IN THE SNOW

It was quite a sight to see snow on Easter morning, but isn’t that just like God?  You know, when I taught Sunday School, my favorite lessons were object lessons.  Maybe it’s because I’ve always been a visual learner.  You can talk me to death, but until I see something and have it click in my own mind, talking just doesn’t do much good.  Don’t make me read boring statistics either, or you’ll lose me completely.  I believe God sent that snow to remind us that on Easter, the plan of Salvation was completed and He is more than able and willing to wash our sins as white as snow.

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.  – Romans 10:9-10

Spring is a time of renewal – a time to begin anew.  What a great time to ask God into your heart and life.  He wants to be the Lord of your life.  Let’s pray this simple prayer together.  If you already know Jesus as Lord and Savior, what a great prayer of rededication and recommitment to Him:

Lord Jesus Christ,

I know that I have sinned
and done things that have hurt you.

I am willing to turn away
from what is wrong in my life.

I want to go where you lead in the future.

Thank you for dying on the cross
so that I might be forgiven.

Come into my life this day;
Come in as my Saviour and Lord:
Come in to be with me for ever.

Thank you Lord Jesus.
Amen.

You know – sometimes God’s children just need to laugh.  Before it gets too far away from Easter, I want to share a poem with you.  My friend Deanna posted a photo and said it was a naked peep taking a bath in her cup of hot tea.  I thought I’d split a stitch, I laughed so hard!  How could that not become a poem?  Laughter is one of many…  gifts from Heaven.  🙂

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

TL A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART (29)AWell, we are nearly a month into winter and it’s not been too bad yet here in Kansas.  We’ve had a couple of earthquakes, but not much snow so far.  Every day that we have mild temperatures and no snow, I thank God because I’m not a big fan of ice and snow – at all.

LEFTOVER SNOW

But what’s Coyote John up to???  Looks like he’s LOST IN THE WIND!  That’s not difficult in Kansas – trust me!  😉

I enjoy watching videos on YouTube that my friend John makes.  He shows us the outdoors like nobody else does!  Most of us drive along the highway, passing by all that Mother Nature has to show us.  Let’s watch his most recent video recorded last December.

POEM FROM THE PRAIRIE LADY

Look at the trees, look at the birds, look at the clouds, look at the stars… and if you have eyes you will be able to see that the whole existence is joyful. Everything is simply happy. Trees are happy for no reason; they are not going to become prime ministers or presidents and they are not going to become rich and they will never have any bank balance. Look at the flowers — for no reason. It is simply unbelievable how happy flowers are.  – Osho

A great big THANK YOU to John for showing us nature in winter – while we sit indoors all snug and warm.  😉

PREPARE YE THE WAY OF THE LORD

TL 12-1 PREPARE YE THE WAY OF THE LORDI know that it’s more difficult to get into Christmas because of the terrorists attacks.  Believe me, I’m very saddened that once again our country has been a target – a soft target.  In spite of these happenings, we as Christians have a HOPE – in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  He is worthy of our praise and worship.  He came to earth to save us and we celebrate that fact.

Today’s goal is to take some photos of God’s beautiful creation.  I find photographs of beauty soothe my troubled soul.  Let’s take a moment today to thank God for all the beauty around us.

The last ice storm we had here in Wichita was back in 1993.  I remember standing outside where it was so quiet – then suddenly there would be a loud CRACKLING noise – the sound of branches breaking off trees from the weight of the ice!  It’s a weird sound to be sure.  The folks just northwest of us had an ice storm over the Thanksgiving holiday – just in time to mess up their plans.  😦

Hopefully these photos have helped us focus on God and have reminded us that He is in control – of nature, the climate, man and the future of everyone.  May God richly bless you today.  🙂
