I’m super excited about our CHRISTIAN AUTHOR’S VIRTUAL TEA PARTY & BOOK EXTRAVAGANZA.  Join us from 2-4 pm (CST) for fun and real-time conversations with your favorite authors!  We’ll be joined by Lucinda Berry Hill, Deanna Stalnaker and Judy Janowski, to name a few.

Please remember that this is a VIRTUAL event, meaning that all you have to do is be on the EVENT PAGE at 2pm CST.  Just grab your favorite tea (and a snack, of course) and log on to facebook!  You can wear your po-jammies if you want to!  Just be there!!!  ❤

Have your questions ready for the authors.  These talented folks and their writing inspire me continually and I know you enjoy their work too.  God has blessed them with such depth in their writing – it is undeniable that it comes from the Holy Spirit of God.  Isn’t God good to give such talent, and they in turn share it with us?

I know today’s post is quite short (uncharacteristic for me, huh?)  I do have last-minute arrangements to make that will assure the party goes smoothly.

In addition to learning about the authors, we will be sharing some tea trivia along the way as well as great recipes for scones and other goodies that go great with your favorite hot tea.  It’ll be great – we will celebrate the last days of NATIONAL HOT TEA MONTH and chat with these talented Christian authors.

There’s still time to RSVP – friend me on facebook to receive an invitation:

Don’t miss it!  Bring your favorite tea and the questions you want to ask.  See ya in a few hours!  🙂

CHRISTIAN AUTHOR'S VIRTUAL TEA PARTY & BOOK EXTRAVAGANZA 2016It’s my hope and prayer that this is such a success that we will be planning a 2nd Annual Event next year!  Wink!  😉

Do you enjoy history? So do I. Let’s take a trip back to 1901. That’s the year that Frank Skiff and his brother-in-law, Frank Ross went into business together. They had a reliable horse and a sturdy wagon and a dream to go with them. They thought instead of folks having to leave their homes to buy goods, why not take the goods to the people? So they set off to do just that!

Other tea companies had come up with the same concept, but the Jewel Tea company made it better. They offered a premium with the first order. Sort of like a “bonus” to attract future business. The idea was a great one because it set the two Franks out on a road paved with profits and the promise of more business than they could imagine!

Back then, if something was considered to be superior it was called a “jewel”. That’s why they decided to name the company “Jewel Tea”. The Jewel Tea company was incorporated in Chicago, Illinois in 1903. By 1904 many new routes opened outside of the Chicago area and in 1906 they entered the food-manufacturing field. It began with baking powder and by 1908 they were roasting their own coffee!

Jewel Tea company was incorporated under the laws of New York State in 1916, and listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Sales reached $15 million in 1917 with over 1700 routes in operation. The first World War had an adverse effect on them and other companies, but because of John M. Hancock, the Jewel Tea company was operating in the black by 1921.

The company moved its operations from Chicago to Barrington, Illinois in 1930. They started selling household products through salesmen traveling the country until 1981. Jewel Tea kept housewives supplied with spices and baking powder to cleaning supplies, cookware, linens and china.

The National Autumn Leaf Collector’s Club has been a fun way to keep this history alive. The members of the club collect this antique china and are always searching for an old Jewel tin that once contained some sort of spice, tea or baking powder. At the annual conventions, members bring their rare treasures to show others. It’s a real treasure hunt of sorts. We are interested in everything Jewel Tea, but of course our real interest is in the Autumn Leaf patterned china. ❤

There is no sound judgment or science to back this theory – but it was thought that if everyone began jumping for 2 minutes straight at a synchronized time – it would knock the earth off its axis.  Newsflash – not gonna happen.  I’ll tell you what some benefits of jumping today are:

Weight Loss  Hey – it’s good exercise.  It would look less silly if you were jumping a rope or doing jumping jacks, but if you jump non-stop for a couple of minutes it could only be a positive move.

Wake Up Some of us just blindly waddle to the bathroom and waddle blindly to the coffee maker.  The chances of your eyes opening wide and your brain thinking clearly improve when you have engaged in some physical activity.

Reason to Laugh Make plans with someone to jump for 2 minutes today.  As you watch your friend you cannot help but bust out laughing!  That alone should help you have a better day.

Making a Memory If you decide to be a part of this celebration, make sure somebody has a camera!  What a fun photo to put in a scrapbook!

Choose a Special Location If you have a group of folks from your church, why not meet at the church to do the jumping?  You can always bring a snack and have a brunch afterwards.  Hey – any excuse to eat at church, right?

Here’s a great song to jump to:

So maybe we won’t shift the orbit of planet Earth, stop global warming, extend daytime hours or create a more homogenous climate, but it will still be a fun time!  If 600 million folks jump up and down for 2 minutes it really won’t make a big change to the planet, but it might put you in a better mood to face the day!  Some call it a hoax, but I just think it’s all in good fun.  😉

Today is GRUNTLED WORKERS DAY – which is obviously the opposite of a disgruntled worker.  I contend that a gruntled worker in the church is one who regularly seeks more light from God.  God is the source of love and light – there is an abundant supply of both.

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” – John 8:12

In the King James version the word light appears 272 times; the word lighted appears 13 times, lighten appears 7 times, lightenedappears 5 times, lighteneth appears twice, lighter appears 5 times, lightestappears once, lighteth appears 3 times, lighting appears twice, lightlyappears 7 times, lightnessappears 3 times and the word lights appears 10 times.

Do you feel more enlightened by that??? Yeah, I had to ask!

Look – here’s the thing. God is not only love, but He is light. He is the original – the best – the source from which we obtain all we are. Judging from the number of times light is mentioned in the Bible, it’s a big deal.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. – John 1:5

Is there darkness in our world? Do I have to ask? If we will keep reading our Bibles and praying, God’s Holy Spirit will illuminate our path.

We should always be seeking more of God’s light. His is the only light that can fight the darkness in our world.

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. – 1 John 1:7

Because we walk in God’s light, we are able to work together. Not to say life is perfect by any means, but since we are all on the same team, so to speak, we see a common goal that we strive toward together. With God’s light in our lives, we can accomplish so much.

For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light. – Ephesians 5:8

Seek more light. ❤
