LUKE 9:26 on 9/26

tl-luke-9-26-on-9-26Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.  – Luke 9:26

If I had a nickel for every time I heard, “I believe in God, but I choose to keep my religion private and to myself”, I’d be so rich!  Yet – strangely enough, if I choose to share Christ with others, the target on my back gets shot at.  Oh, you haven’t noticed that target on my back?  Trust me – it’s there.

The most recent situation took place on facebook.  Most of my friends there are aware of my stance about faith.  I’m not ashamed to share it with anyone, and although I hope and pray it’s not annoying, I don’t apologize for my facebook posts or my blog posts.  I write Christian poetry – although I have written poems that are not particularly religious, I’m not going to apologize for writing what God has inspired me to write.

Apparently one of my friends didn’t get the memo.  This person ripped me a new halo about going overboard with my Christianity.  Well, long story short, it ended with unfriending and blocking.  Isn’t it sad when people can’t just let people post whatever they want on their own facebook wall?  Last time I checked, it was still a free country – so far.

It’s my belief that some encouragement is not a bad thing in our upside-down world.  Call me crazy, but a positive message of hope and love should be welcome on facebook.  Oh well…  I wonder who will be the next one to endure this person’s anti-religious rant?  I dunno – not my circus, not my monkeys.  That’s a Polish proverb – it means that it’s not my problem anymore.

I’ll just say it – nothing a human being says or does to me is going to change what I say or do.  When I’m being criticized, I know it’s really my Savior being criticized.  And by the way, this portion of Scripture has about 20 cross-references.  You know what that tells me?  It tells me that the Lord wants His children to share their faith along the way – it’s not to be held silently and hugged to yourself.  My favorite portion of Scripture on the subject is Romans 1:16.  Look it up – I’m too lazy to type it out.  😉

Oh alright – here’s a hint:  this happens to be my favorite song too.

I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. 🙂

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

TL A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART (22)I joined a gym.  I didn’t want to go to a gym where Barbie and Ken dolls strut their stuff all over the place and make people like me feel like a fat speed bump.  After careful and prayerful consideration, my husband and I landed at Planet Fitness.  I like the NO CRITICS signs and especially the LUNK sign that says if you drop weights or judge another person, you are a LUNK.  There are also signs around that say THIS IS A NO JUDGMENT ZONE.  Other signs say YOU BELONG.  Please LIKE their facebook page!

https://www.facebook.com/Planet.Fitness.Wichita.KS.Maize/?fref=ts

Even though I don’t feel comfortable in my own skin quite yet, I feel comfortable there – I know I will reach my goals in that kind of environment.

We have been consistent so far, and I’ve not gotten discouraged at all, so I plan to continue this lifestyle for the long haul.  For the first time in such a long time, I feel hopeful about weight loss and finally FINALLY getting my health back!  I have hit the wall…  I have no choice.  It’s either get healthy or pay over $400 a month for the rest of my life to take insulin.  I’d rather pay the gym and do the work.  I can do this – I WILL do this!  I have to do this.

I have to share what happened on June 3rd.  As I said, there are signs all over the place.  They also have TV’s mounted in the center of the gym so you can watch any station you choose.  There is a PF TV that shows music videos and the PF advertisements in-between videos.

As I was walking on the treadmill I looked up at a sign on the PF TV that I knew should have said, DON’T FORGET TO SPRAY DOWN THE EQUIPMENT.  I know you’re going to think I’m off my rocker, but I promise you, when I looked up at it today, it said, DON’T FORGET TO PRAY.  That’s all – the “S” was too far to the left of the screen to be seen, and the rest of the message was too far down and off the screen completely.DON'T FORGET TO PRAY

Did anyone else see it?  I don’t know.  Did God mean for anyone to see it but me?  I don’t know.  I saw it though and obviously He meant for me to see it.  All I know for sure is my God is so good and so creative!  If He wants to remind you to pray, He’s gonna find a way and do it.

Tears came to my eyes.  If I had been among my own kind – my own “tribe”, I would have said, “HEY, LOOK YOU GUYS!!!”  Obviously, I was not among my own kind, so I showed great restraint and kept walking, wiping tears that rolled down my face (maybe others thought it was sweat).  I had to look up and smile, because for whatever reason, my God cared enough for me to remind me to talk with Him today.

It’s not a hassle, it’s not too time-consuming, it’s not a problem to converse with Him.  Call me crazy (go ahead, I’ve been called worse, believe me) – but at the moment I saw that sign, it was like God was letting me know He really looked forward to our daily conversation, and He would miss me if I didn’t show up.  I love that He loves me and wants my company!  Remember the song that Larnelle Harris sang called “I Miss My Time With You” – ???  Yeah – like that.  ❤

I’m loved, I’m protected and I’m heard by Him!  How many people on this ol’ earth can you say that about?  Most people just wanna talk and never listen.  God hears me – He always listens because He is a gentleman.  When I’m done talking, it’s His turn to talk to me.  I gladly listen, study His Word and look for signs everywhere I go – even the signs at the gym!  🙂

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

TL A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART (17)What an interesting experience we had at our local McDonald’s restaurant the other day!  As you know, my husband and I are both type 2 diabetics.  We had been shopping at Walmart and I began to have symptoms of low blood sugar, which is very unusual for me.  I’m not a disciplined patient – that is to say, I don’t typically carry candy or glucose tablets in my purse.  I know…  I know – I should.

We quickly checked our stuff out and loaded it in the truck – then made a beeline for the McDonald’s across the parking lot.  To our surprise, there was some sort of meeting going on with goodies that each person brought from home!  I’m so impressed that the management of McDonald’s would allow folks to do that.  You’d think they would insist that they buy the food there, wouldn’t you?

There were all sorts of cakes and cookies and assorted things of that nature.  I was busy with my oatmeal and coffee (4 points, yep – I counted it)…  and a sweet little lady came to our booth and said,

It’s April birthday month and we have all kinds of goodies if you kids would like to have some birthday cake or cookies, help yourself!

Two things hit me simultaneously…  first – the term YOU KIDS is one I have not heard in such a long time; in fact, not since my sweet mama passed.  Secondly – the sheer sweetness she showed.  We were not a part of their organization or group or whatever, yet she showed such a kindness to us!

I didn’t know her, but she was inclusive by inviting us to be a part of their celebration.  She had no way of knowing that I had a birthday in April – but how very sweet it was of her to ask if we may want to help them celebrate another year of life for those in their group – whatever it was.  I have no idea, but I am so impressed with the manager of that McDonald’s for letting these sweet seniors gather there with their homemade birthday goodies.APRIL BIRTHDAY JOY

As we left the restaurant, I made a little detour to the counter and let the manager know that I thought it was very kind of him to let them gather every month for a birthday celebration.  He just grinned and gave me two thumbs up.  He told me they’d been doing that since the restaurant opened and he doesn’t mind a bit.  I didn’t ask what organization they represent – I’m not sure he even knew to be honest.

Some things happen on some days that just restore your faith in human nature.  This was a good day – a very, very good day.  Thank You, Lord for good days and good folks.  🙂

HIGH FIVE DAY

TL 4-21 HIGH FIVE DAYIt’s thought that the HIGH FIVE started in professional sports.  It’s a way to celebrate a great moment or an accomplishment.  It’s like saying WAY TO GO to a team mate for a job well done.  High five the ones you love today, because they may not be around to celebrate with tomorrow – jus’ sayin’…

I’d give anything to high five my parents today.  They were married on this day in 1943.  Marriage is tough under the best of circumstances – and they stayed together and took their vows seriously.  Now they’re together in eternity.  I wish them an eternity of happiness and joy in the hereafter – and give them an air five today!

If you don’t have humans in your realm of influence, you can most certainly high five the cat!

cat-691175_1280

Get a high five from the kiddo out on the playground!

girl-586988_1280And you probably won’t run into this guy today – you have to wait until Christmas, ‘cuz he’s back at the North Pole trying to get rested up…  but if you could find Santa – you might get to high five him!

santa-claus-579113_1920I just think that is TOO CUTE!  🙂

Who will you high five today?  What moments will you celebrate?  I’ll celebrate an exercise session when it’s over.  I’ll celebrate a pound lost – or even a half or quarter pound lost – as long as I lose and not gain.  It’s great to be going in the right direction!

FREELANCE WRITERS APPRECIATION WEEK

TL 2-7 FREELANCE WRITERS APPRECIATION WEEK

In addition to writing this blog, I write an occasional article for Ezine Articles to gain more exposure, because let’s face it – if I write and nobody reads it, is inspired by it and ultimately takes action because of it – then the time I spend writing has been wasted.  I mean, it’s time I could have spent doing laundry – LOL!  NOT!

Please LIKE them on facebook!  https://www.facebook.com/EZINEARTICLES/

Their blog has been so helpful to me.  http://blog.ezinearticles.com/

The folks at Ezine Articles made it simple to express my thoughts about many subjects through the years, all winding right back here and increasing the number of followers on this blog.  It’s my hope that the articles I’ve written have been helpful and thought-provoking to the readers.

Everybody walks past a thousand story ideas every day. Good writer sees five or six of them. Most people don’t see any.   – Orson Scott

They allow you to include all of the links where you share your writing, so I not only share the main article, but at the same time they can see my pages on facebook, twitter, pinterest, linkedin and google +, as well as the link to my website.

Have you connected with me yet?  Here’s where you can find me:

If you’re interested in reading my articles on Ezine Articles, my pen name is (take a deep breath)…  Linda Lou Turner Palmer.  I’m not sure how my middle name got in there, but it did.  I think if you google Ezine Articles with my pen name, the articles should come up.  Frankly, I’ve not tried to look them up – I don’t tend to go backwards and review – I am a move ahead kind of writer – on to the next challenge.  🙂

I hope all of my writer friends will take advantage of this free tool.  It’s one of many ways to sharpen iron for others by offering insight and hopefully some helpful advice, as you let them know about your product, or in my case – my blog.

blackboard-620314_1920The folks in charge of the Ezine Articles facebook page are so friendly and willing to message back and forth with you if you have any questions.  They also offer some awesome incentives once you begin writing, such as badges for every accomplishment.  I’m very proud to say that I am a Diamond Expert Author, which means that I can now submit an unlimited number of articles.  Now, that’s not to say that they will automatically be accepted – they still have to go through the process and if I’m not careful, they can deny the submission.

I have written 27 articles on subjects ranging from Around the House to Health and Fitness.  We’ve all heard the age-old saying – write about what you know.  Well, brothers and sisters – I know about being around the house and I sure do know about more than a few health challenges.EZINE ARTICLES

My single wish is that my parents could read my work.  I remember a nightly battle as I sat at the kitchen table – most nights I went to bed crying myself to sleep and feeling so stupid because I just could not grasp the concept – what concept?  ANY concept…  you name it.  The dyslexia got in the way with spelling, sentence structure, mathematics, science – even music!  Everything got jumbled up.  It still does to this day.  Now I notice that I skip lines when I’m reading, so it’s best if I can follow along with a cursor on the computer or my finger when reading a book.  And yes, I still have to read things twice – sometimes three times before it sinks in.

God knows the desires of our hearts – He GETS us when nobody else does.  People can’t understand why I chose to write when it’s such a struggle.  God knows my motives and reasons.  He understands and helps me to write every day.  I praise Him for guidance and direction.

God makes a way where we don’t see one – He gives us what we need when we need it – never ahead of time – but always right on time.  If I didn’t need His help, would I appreciate Him as much?  Probably not.  There’s a reason for everything – even dyslexia.  I really believe that to be true.

I’ll be sure to let you know when I finish my novel about rocket science – LOL.  Yeah – don’t hold your breath!   Wink!  😉

JANUARY 18-24 IS NATIONAL BIBLE WEEK

TL JANUARY 18-24 2016 IS NATIONAL BIBLE WEEKMY BIBLEBIBLE HUGSNOT JUST A BOOK

A BOOK WITH PROMISE

Have you hugged your Bible lately?  We should be hugging it every day as we have devotionals – but I get it…  life gets busy.  The year is young, so isn’t this the perfect time to get back in the swing – the habit – of daily devotionals with the LORD?  He’s so patient with us, isn’t He?

Since this is National Bible Week, I thought a few passages of Scripture for this new year may be appropriate.  Here we go!

May the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ be blessed! On account of his vast mercy, he has given us new birth. You have been born anew into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.  – 1 Peter 1:3
Don’t remember the prior things; don’t ponder ancient history. Look! I’m doing a new thing; now it sprouts up; don’t you recognize it? I’m making a way in the desert, paths in the wilderness.  – Isaiah 43:18-19
I believe that the present suffering is nothing compared to the coming glory that is going to be revealed to us.   – Romans 8:38
Certainly the faithful love of the Lord hasn’t ended; certainly God’s compassion isn’t through! They are renewed every morning. Great is your faithfulness.  – Lamentations 3:22-23
Then the one seated on the throne said, “Look! I’m making all things new.” He also said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”  – Revelation 21:5

Look among the nations and watch! Be astonished and stare because something is happening in your days that you wouldn’t believe even if told.  – Habakkuk 1:5

Sing to the Lord a new song because he has done wonderful things! His own strong hand and his own holy arm have won the victory!  – Psalm 98:1

I will give them a single heart, and I will put a new spirit in them. I will remove the stony hearts from their bodies and give them hearts of flesh.  – Ezekiel 11:19

May God richly bless you as you study His Word in 2016!  🙂

JANUARY IS NATIONAL HOT TEA MONTH

JANUARY IS NATIONAL HOT TEA MONTH

There are stresses associated with winter, starting with the commute to work over ice and snow!  Some people don’t mind driving on ice, but I’m not in that club!  If I turn a corner and just keep turning – well, let’s just say I don’t find it amusing.  Then once you get where you’re going, there are unique stress factors depending on the day.  Stress is just a part of life, isn’t it?  How do you de-stress?SOMETHING ABOUT TEAChelmsford Tea is a wonderful place to rekindle friendships.  Just a quaint little shop, they have hundreds of blends to choose from.  They brew up a little cup of heaven – and it just melts the stress away.

My mother’s favorite tea was Earl Grey.  I don’t particularly care for it – my tastes gravitate toward more sweet flavors, as did my Granny LaVella’s.  Right now I’m enjoying a cup of Sweet Cinnamon Orange from my favorite tea store, The Spice Merchant, in downtown Wichita.  Sweet Cinnamon Orange tastes like Harney’s Hot Cinnamon Sunset.  I’m sure Granny would share it with me…  oh if only!

When I was younger I hosted casual tea parties.  I put the kettle on and had various flavors to choose from.  Everyone picked their favorite and made their tea.  We’d sit around enjoying our tea as we talked about life in general – literature, work, family.  There was never a moment of silence, but so much laughter in my house…  making sweet memories with my friends!

Here’s my favorite poem from Lucinda Berry Hill, author of “Coffee with Jesus” & “A Second Cup with Jesus”.  A SIP, A PRAYER, A PEACE

I knew my friend, Judy Janowski, author of Life is a Garden Party, would have some beautiful tea cups and teapots to share today.  Look at these – aren’t they pretty?

God has blessed me with author friends!  Deanna Stalnaker, author of Tea with Grandy Dee and Jesus, Me & Afternoon Tea, has been quite busy lately.  She’s in the process of writing a series of books called Women of God:  Lancaster County.  The first two books are complete.  More…  we want more.  ❤

11828622_445582042288986_2918859347990320449_nThese days, my husband and I enjoy tea and blueberry scones together.  It’s a quiet pleasure, but one that seems to make all the cares of the day just melt away…  there’s just something about tea!  We are in no danger of running out of teapots or teacups around here!  There’s always time for tea, scones, smiles and laughter.  I can’t speak for others, but in my mind, the table setting at a tea party is just as important as the tea you choose to serve.  I enjoy our own Hall Autumn Leaf Jewel Tea antique dishes.  They set a very pretty table and are particularly nice for an Autumn Spice themed tea party.

1 JANUARY IS NATIONAL HOT TEA MONTH (WITH SCONES)

2 JANUARY IS NATIONAL HOT TEA MONTH (WITH SCONES)

Tea combined with prayer help you establish a positive state of mind:

If you think you are beaten, you are.  If you think you dare not, you won’t.

If you like to win, but don’t think you can It’s almost a cinch you won’t.

If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost.  For out in the world you find,

Success begins with a fellow’s will It’s all in a state of mind.

For many a game is lost ‘ere even a play is run,

And many a coward fails ‘ere even his work is begun.

Think big and your deeds will grow.  Think small and you’ll fall behind.

Think that you can and you will.  It’s all a state of mind.

If you think you are out-classed, you are.  You’ve got to think high to rise.

You’ve got to be sure of yourself before you can ever win a prize.

Life battles don’t always go to the stronger or faster man.

But sooner or later, the man who wins is the fellow who thinks he can.

Sometimes I like to enjoy tea in a present from a friend.  This mug and tea bag holder remind me of her belief in my abilities, which makes it easier to believe in myself!  I can do ALL things through Christ who gives me strength!  🙂IMG_0005It’s a whimsical mug and tea bag holder made by GANTZ.  I was hoping you could read it from the photo, but apparently it’s too far away – or at least it is for me, so I’ll just write it here:

CREATIVI-TEA:

YOUR WONDERFUL IMAGINATION MAKES THE ORDINARY SPECIAL.  YOUR STYLE AND ARTISTRY SHINE THROUGH IN ALL THAT YOU DO.

Every time I use this mug, I’m reminded of her encouragement as well as her daily prayers for me.  It means so much!  It also inspired this poem:

POTENTIAL I TEA

CHRISTIAN AUTHOR'S VIRTUAL TEA PARTY & BOOK EXTRAVAGANZA 2016Enjoy tea time today and pray…  know that God loves you each and every day!  🙂
