A SUMMER OF PSALMS

Both the north and south poles can be reached by beginning travel in the opposite direction.  Talk about meeting yourself coming and going!  If you continue straight travel north long enough, you pass the pole and begin to go south.  So why, then, cannot one travel eastward and have it eventually become westward?  The answer has to do with the position of the earth on its axis.  It’s tilted 23 degrees, but the poles are still at the top and bottom – the north pole and south pole.  Our planet is spinning on the north/south axis.

This is another example of what I call MIRACLE SCRIPTURE PASSAGES because there’s no way folks in Bible times knew all the cool stuff we know about earth and its axis and all that – didn’t they think the earth was flat?  The Bible truly is the inspired Word of God – creator of everything and the One who knows how it’s all put together.

Which brings us to east and west.  These two never meet!  I’m so very happy to say that my God throws my sins into the sea of forgetfulness and they are remembered no more!  He throws them as far as the east is from the west, and that’s a long, LONG way!

Sin is what separates us from our kind and loving Heavenly Father.  When Christ came to earth to live as a human, and subsequently bleed and die on a cross for the sins of every man, woman, and child past, present, and future, God knew we were not going to tow the line, hit the mark, be perfect – because we are human beings – we are not little gods.  We needed and need a Savior.  We were and are in big trouble without One.  God doesn’t send anyone to hell – we were and are sending ourselves – but it doesn’t have to end that way.  If we place our faith and trust in God’s only begotten Son, Jesus – we can have eternal life with Him forever in Heaven when this life is over.

Being saved does not make you perfect.  Being saved does give you a blessed hope in a world that sure could use hope.  Jesus is the only hope for mankind.  We’re just flesh and blood and we need a Savior who is more than that.  Jesus is more and He sits at the right hand of the Father right now.  You know, He doesn’t even know when He’s going to get the nod from Father God to come back for His own.  God’s the only one who knows the appointed time.  Yes, we see the signs of end times – all around us every day!  We know it’s going to be soon.  I don’t want you to miss it.

Ask the Lord to forgive you of sins you’ve committed, and things you may have omitted as well.  Ask Him to live in your heart and mind today.  Make Heaven your eternal home.  Ease your heart and mind of burdens and the horrible guilt associated with them that you don’t have to carry for the rest of your life.  Believe in the only man who ever died for you.  Salvation is yours right now.  What are you waiting for?  When you are forgiven by God through the shed blood of Christ, it is the most freeing feeling!  God wants to take your sins away and throw them as far as the east is from the west.  🙂

O COME, ALL YE FAITHFUL

tl-11-30-o-come-all-ye-faithful

And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.  – Luke 2:15

celebration-in-heavenWhen I read this poem by Lucinda Berry Hill, tears come to my eyes.  I can’t help it – so much of my family is in Heaven now, and although I know we will be reunited one day, for the time being, we are not together.  I’m left here to celebrate without them.  We have the same Lord and we celebrate His birthday – and yes, they are saying Happy Birthday while I say Merry Christmas.

I then thought of the old Christmas carol called “O Come, All Ye Faithful”.  ALL ye faithful…  citizens of earth and citizens of Heaven!  God wants everyone to come together to celebrate the birth of Christ!

John Francis Wade wrote the Latin version, called “Adeste Fideles”.  Wade fled England after the 1745 Jacobite rebellion to teach music in the school for British Roman Catholic exiles in Douai in France.  Published in 1760, it’s been suggested that it might have incidentally served as a coded rallying cry for the Stewart cause.

The English translation was written by Frederick Oakley and William Brooke in 1841.  Samuel Webbe is credited with writing the tune, but unfortunately, it reminds many of us of the road rage anthem, “Why are we waiting?”  I don’t know who first sang those annoying words with that beautiful tune, but I’d like to punch them.  It frustrates me for two reasons:

(1) I don’t want to hear the tune to a Christmas carol at some time besides Christmas.

(2) I don’t want to hear the words WHY ARE WE WAITING sung to a tune that clearly deserves lyrics with more depth.  It’s childish.  Stop it.

It does my heart good though, to think about my family – a part of the faithful – celebrating Christ’s birthday along with me.  God knows how to give me glimmers of hope around Christmas, and I’m thankful for that.

O come, let US (y’all in Heaven and us on earth) adore HIM, CHRIST THE LORD!  🙂

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

ALL THINGS NEW

Do you have favorite passages in the Bible? You may be surprised at what mine is. Obviously I am amazed and so very grateful for the death, burial and resurrection of Christ, but there are Words in my Bible that make me cry:

And the evening and the morning were the first day. – Genesis 1:5

And the evening and the morning were the second day. – Genesis 1:8

And the evening and the morning were the third day. – Genesis 1:13

And the evening and the morning were the fourth day. – Genesis 1:19

And the evening and the morning were the fifth day. – Genesis 1:23

And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. – Genesis 1:31

And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it He had rested from all His work which God created and made. – Genesis 2:3

Without even thinking about how much work God did, let’s just consider the fact that He didn’t do it all at once. His creation was not just thrown together like something my Aunt Mary would make in her Kitchen Aid mixer! He took time and it was a complete labor of LOVE. If you ever wonder just how much the Father loves you, read through the story of creation!

Don’t just skip over the parts that explain that God was done for that day. I’m glad those passages are included! God worked – He worked very hard for a time. Then He did what? Well, by day seven, He blessed the day and declared that it was to be a day of REST. It’s a day of renewal and relaxation.

By renewal and relaxation He did not intend it to be the day to do the laundry. In our day we see rest and relaxation as something weak or something that makes people lazy. If we aren’t running around trying to text and drive or push a shopping cart with the phone cradled on our shoulder – or better yet – a Bluetooth gadget on our ear – then we’re considered uncool and lazy. Hmm… you know what??? I’m not joining the masses on those things!

Renewal is so important to overall health and wellbeing! Rest every night – good deep sleep is part of what keeps our cells healthy. Our bodies need rest – we were made to rest at night! Pay attention to nature and the newness of Spring! Look at the story of creation. God rested. If GOD rested, what makes us think we don’t have to? :-/
