PRAYERS & WISHES FOR THANKSGIVING

tl-thanksgiving-2016-11-12-thru-11-24There is so much to be thankful for…  and I have two more posts for Thanksgiving!  Decisions… decisions.  Today I am so very thankful for Warmth – and by warmth I mean not just the snuggly feeling of being in a coat on a cold day.  Warmth on the outside, yes – but also warmth on the inside.  I’m so very thankful for a sense of security and confidence because of a relationship with Jesus Christ.  I’m thankful for God’s joy and His peace that passes all understanding.

I am thankful for my new coat – and I have to show it to you:

new-image5It’s snuggly and warm – it resists moisture and the strong Kansas wind!  And…  it is TEAL BLUE which is my favorite color.  It was my mom’s favorite color too.  I also like to wear it on Friday for Blue Friday for diabetes awareness.  It was half price which cinched the deal for sure.  I’ll be toasty warm  this winter and for that – yes I’m very thankful for physical warmth and protection.  Oh, and by the way…  I know my hands are inside the sleeves.  Yes, I do have hands – but the coat is not a petite, so…  well – if you’re short, you understand.

In a spiritual sense, I feel very secure and God instills confidence in my soul every day.  There’s nothing like having God’s love, joy and peace within.  I know you know that.

Let’s take a moment to thank God for the warmth He give us – inside and out:a-poem-prayer-for-thanksgivingAs we acknowledge God in all our ways, He promises to direct our paths.  I don’t take those promises for granted, do you?  I take Him at His word and lean on Him for help every moment of every day.

When we ask God for things like security, acceptance, confidence, and peace…  He is faithful to answer those prayers – and it’s a different answer for each of us.  I think that’s great, and more proof that we are not robots, but were created by a loving God who knows just what we need and how to provide for that need!  I love how God answers our prayers.

Lucinda does too!

thankful-for-the-way-god-answersI wish for you answered prayers!  I wish you more of whatever it is you need.  I wish for you better relationships, and success in life.  I wish that more of your plans and dreams will come to pass if it is God’s will.  🙂

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

TL A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART1

Sometimes the choices we make are irreversible.  Once we begin walking forward, we just have to keep going and never turn around.  Those decisions are made slowly and methodically.  Make sure you give it much thought, because you know there’s no going back.  Nothing in your life will ever be the same again.  You have to ask yourself if there may be a time in the future when you’d like for things to be the way they are.  If the answer is no, then there’s no reason to stay where you are.  That’s the only time it’s okay to take action and keep walking forward.

I’ve only done that once.  I don’t care to ever do anything that painful again for the rest of my life.

I’ve learned that there are things that go wrong that don’t always get fixed or get put back together the way they were before. I’ve learned that some broken things stay broken, and I’ve learned that you can get through bad times and keep looking for better ones, as long as you have people who love you.  – Bobby Fulks

Sometimes decisions are made for us.  Things happen in life that are completely out of our control.  Life-altering experiences occur and that’s when we are left with our faith in God.  We hopefully have people in our lives who love us, but we know without a doubt that we have God…  and yes – He loves us.  He cares and He wants to hear what our hearts are feeling.  Even if what has happened leaves us frightened and angry and alone – He still wants to hear from us.

broken-til-the-end

Life is a little like on the job training.  We are born into this world – expected to perform at a certain level through school and receive a diploma which magically leads us to the pursuit of happiness.  Right?  Hang on, Sloopy…  let’s back this truck up.

Stuff happens in life because not only are we just human, but the people around us are… you guessed it…  human.  We all have dreams and expectations once we graduate.  We’re going to meet the right person to spend a lifetime with – we’re going to have this wonderful family together and we’ll fly off into fluffy white clouds in a classic car – like Danny and Sandy did at the end of the movie GREASE.

Have you ever seen a classic car fly???  I rest my case.  Just as a classic car most definitely will not fly, no woman could possibly fit into that leather outfit that Sandy wears toward the end of the movie.  I’m convinced that’s why most men want to watch that movie so many times.  Sigh.  I dunno – maybe it is to see the classic cars…

Yes, life is like on the job training; however, most jobs are dull compared to the twists and turns that life takes.  When it seems your life is a rollercoaster ride, just keep in mind that Jesus sits at your side.  He doesn’t need a barf bag…  but there are times when you might need one.  Jus’ sayin’…

a-roller-coaster-ride

The common thread throughout this topsy turvy ride of life is LOVE.  Find LOVE – a connection that makes it all worthwhile.  Love here on earth, of course…  but know that you are loved completely by your LORD.  He knows you better than anyone, and He loves you more than anyone here ever will.  We need human love to hang in there.  We need God’s love to make us whole and give us purpose.

Finding love on this earth is so difficult.  Finding love from Heaven is so simple.  🙂

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

TL A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART (2)I WANT TO BE FRUITFUL
Theodore Roosevelt said, “Keep your eyes on the stars, and your feet on the ground.” My question is; what is your star? What is that thing that can force you to go to bed late and wake you up while many are in deep sleep? What’s it that can pick you up to walk again even after a frustrating fall? What’s it that gives you a smile in times of weeping? What’s that one thing that keeps you strong and gives hope in times of hopelessness? If you have it, then you have found that star he talked about. Keep moving! For as long as you have with you the three keys to personal excellence (The will to win, the desire to succeed and the urge to reach your full potential), you shall reach your star. I know that you know what I am talking about, but knowing isn’t enough, you must apply and do. Our greatest weakness lies in giving up on God’s gift to us; you must try one more time if you’re to succeed. Believe in yourself and have faith in your abilities – for without confidence in your own powers, you cannot reach your star that God gave you as the guiding light in the darkest moments of your life.  Your talent is God’s gift to you and what you do with it is your gift back to God.  – Mark Farouk
We are only able to grow and succeed in life as long as we stay in God’s Word and pray without ceasing.  There’s nothing we can do on our own – and by the same token, there’s nothing that God cannot do through us!  He is the Vine and we are the branches…  our own ego must go on the back burner and we must fully lean on God to guide and direct our path.  God is our guiding Light – our Star – like the star that shone over the manger in Bethlehem for the Wise Men.
WISE MEN STILL SEEK HIM
If we want to be wise…  we will follow the LIGHT, the STAR that will never lead us astray.  As He shines on and in us, we shine His love and peace to others.  I love how God works, don’t you?  🙂

TELL A FAIRY TALE DAY

TL 2-26 TELL A FAIRY TALE DAY

My wife said she wanted a “fairy-tale romance,” so I’ve locked her in a tower.  – @TONYCOWARDS

Most of us grew up listening to fairy tales.  My favorite was “Jack and the Beanstalk”.  I imagined myself as Jack, climbing up the huge beanstalk that reached high above the clouds.  That’s really funny because in elementary school I was the kid whose feet could not leave the big knot on the rope when it was time to climb it.

There was an old woman who lived in a shoe.  She got her own TLC show.  The end.  – Ryan Anderson @KOLCHAK

Fairy tales take us to magical places where pixie dust flows freely and no one is ever cranky.  Sounds great, doesn’t it?  Oh, but I guess there were those few dwarfs in “Sleeping Beauty” was one of them cranky?  LOL – well I don’t remember – oh, I think it was grumpy.  Same difference…

So if we avoid grumpy we should be in pretty good shape.  Oh, but there was that Evil Queen chick – yeah.  Hmm…  this is sounding less like perfection and more like real life all the time.  What’s with that?

Cinderella’s fairy godmother turned her rags into a gown, mice into horses, and a pumpkin into endless lattes for her and her BFFs to enjoy.  – @THELAURENOBRIEN

There seem to be issues with all fairy tales.  Every one of them have something evil or malicious to be aware of.

I have never worked out the moral to Humpty Dumpty.  Is it, “Don’t let horses perform medical procedures”?  – Ricky Gervais

2-26 A FAIRY TALE

I’ll tell you my fairy tale…

Jesus and Me

Once upon a time, there was a happy baby.  She never cried but giggled all the time.  Her daddy said it was because she had gas, but it was because she was happy.  He should not buy into those old wives’ tales.  The baby laughed and giggled at everything.  She decided that nothing was going to make her unhappy.

One day in grade school she tried to read a book.  The letters on the page began to dance and it was very entertaining to the little girl, but she wanted to learn how to make the letters stop dancing so she could make sense of the book.  Her mommy and daddy enrolled her in something called special education.

The little girl paid close attention to the nice teacher and worked very hard with exercises and reading glasses.  She finally learned how to read the words by following them with her finger.  She didn’t enjoy reading at first, but the more she did it, the easier it got and the more she enjoyed it.

Nobody thought the little girl would graduate from high school, but she did!  She celebrated with all her friends and family, and her new best friend.  His name is Jesus.  Jesus helped the little girl with a lot of stuff that she could not have done by herself.

Jesus stayed with the little girl and helped her as she grew into a young woman.  He helped her land a really great job as an editor where she had to do a lot of reading.  Now the woman writes a blog for fun to encourage others to celebrate every day.

Jesus knew about the woman’s problem with reading, but nobody else did.  He will always be the woman’s best friend.

– The End

The Moral of the story is…  Jesus can help you overcome ANY obstacle you face!

Jesus cares and helps us with everything because He loves us so very much!  He is the great giver.  ❤

MAKE YOUR DREAM COME TRUE DAY

TL 1-13 MAKE YOUR DREAM COME TRUE DAY

1-13 YOU KNOW MY DREAM
We all have dreams.  Today is MAKE YOUR DREAM COME TRUE DAY!!!  Maybe there is one small, attainable dream that you can make come true today.  But God knows all about that big dream – you know the one.  That’s the one that you think may not happen, but you have entrusted it to God’s hands and backed away.  It’s the dream with a prayer attached that goes something like this:

Dear God, You know the desires of my heart and the wish that lives deep in my spirit.  I’m working toward making this dream come true as much as is humanly possible, but it feels unattainable.  Your Word tells me that all things are possible with God – so Lord, I’m claiming that promise and asking for You to help me do this.  I’m laying my big dream at Your feet and taking my hands off.  I’m backing away as I sing praises to You because I know You make paths where nobody else can.  Your provision is so much better than what I could get for myself.  You not only care about the needs in my life, but the dreams and desires I have as well.  I know You will make a way for me, but if it doesn’t happen it’s only because something better for me is waiting.  I will wait for Your perfect timing with joy in my heart.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

How badly do you want that dream to become a reality?  What are you willing to do to achieve a goal?

My seventh-grade football team had just been soundly trounced.  Our opponent was a bunch of raging kids from an Oklahoma City Salvation Army shelter.  Their helmets didn’t match.  Some wore jeans.  The kid across from me had put his number on his shirt in masking tape.  But when we snapped the ball, that kid hit me so hard, my left shoulder still hurts when it rains.  After the game, my dad told me, “Boy, you just got a lesson in the power of desire.  The difference between winners and losers is that winners do things that losers just don’t want to do.”  If I want something bad enough, I better be willing to work however hard is required.  If not, a boy with a taped-on number might take it away.  – Phil McGraw, PhD

Cinderella says a dream is a wish your heart makes, and nobody knows your heart better than God.  The tough part about putting a dream in God’s hands is the waiting.  It’s tempting to rush God’s perfect timing.  I’ve done that in my life a few times and it was always a major life event.  God showed me a couple of times that I should have waited on Him instead of rushing ahead.  Patience is really not my strong suit.  The good news is, as I get older I’m building character and learning lessons.  I’m much more patient than I used to be.

What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.  – Henry Stanley Haskins, Meditations in Wall Street, 1940

May God richly bless you as you lay your dreams at His feet and wait for Him to help you make them come true.  Wink!   😉

NEW YEAR’S EVE

TL 12-31 NEW YEAR'S EVE

JANUARY 1967
January 1967 Back when life was carefree

For me, this day is a time of reflection. I do a lot of thinking about the past and all of the times I’ve heard the song AULD LANG SYNE in my lifetime. My most vivid memory is sitting in front of our black and white Zenith television watching the Guy Lumbardo New Year’s Eve special, eating popcorn, roasted hot dogs and toasted marshmallows. We used to roast wieners over the wood-burning fire in the fireplace then toast the marshmallows for dessert.

When the clock struck midnight, my little family would hold hands and pray the new year in. There was something so comforting about knowing we had invited God into our lives for another year. We knew that everything would be alright at that point.

There’s something so sad about the song “Auld Lang Syne”. I cry every time I hear it! The very meaning of the title is sad to me. It means “Times Gone By” in Scottish. Although it was written back in the 1700’s and transcribed by Robert Burns so we in America could sing it, the tradition is so deeply rooted that we just don’t realize it is a new year without singing that particular song at midnight on New Year’s Eve. These days, I usually go to bed before midnight to avoid hearing it.

The words “We’ll drink a cup of kindness yet for times gone by” just about kill me inside. Those really were good times and I can’t stay there very long. I must look ahead toward the new year. I am determined to make these my best days. My future looks very bright and exciting!

So what lies ahead for Linda? I am praying about that and waiting on God. That’s a great plan to have. Until it is time to realize my dream, I will keep preparing for it. When God says it is time to move, I will be ready. I will have my ducks in a row, for to pray for a dream to be realized is more than just wishing and hoping. It is hard work and preparation. It is knowing that you have poured the very best of yourself into a project. But the timing is in God’s hands. I leave the timing to Him.

Year’s end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us.  – Hal Borland

I will not write the next great novel, but I would like to publish a book of poetry, prayers and quotes. Thus far, I have over 80 poems, about 10 quotes and 20 prayers written. I just keep writing and waiting. When it’s time to do something with them, I will know.

I pray God blesses you richly in 2014. Happy New Year! 😀
