CYBER MONDAY

Today is the day to stay in your pajamas and take advantage of the bargains available online!  There are literally tons of deals out there, so no matter what you are shopping for, there is surely a bargain waiting for you to find it.

15239340_1849686458609149_912808752_nLucinda is a talented poet and contributes regularly to my blog.  Her book “Coffee with Jesus” has been my go-to devotional for many years.  Every week I read a poem and companion Scriptures.  Her words inspire and encourage my spirit to do the things that God has called me to do.15218701_1849714758606319_1672215540_n

Her poem “The Napkin” is particularly inspiring – and mine serves as a reminder of the sacrifice that Christ made to save me for eternity.  I could imagine a table setting with these napkins being so lovely at Christmas.  What a unique touch for a family gathering!

I cherish mine and keep it displayed year around.

15175485_1849714205273041_1937375671_nThere’s just something about having a journal to jot down thoughts as you have devotionals.  Sometimes the Lord speaks and inspires us and it’s great to have this companion to “Coffee with Jesus” close by when God inspires us – right?  When you buy the book today, this wonderful journal (a $6 value) can be yours for free!

And wow – upgrading to hard cover – how great is that???  Since this is a devotional book and will be used time and again, year after year…  I mean – when it’s a paperback, it will begin to show wear so much sooner than the hard cover would!  That’s a fantastic bonus, isn’t it?

Today’s the day to buy “Coffee with Jesus” and choose a bonus!  Decisions…  decisions!

When you finally decide which bonus you want to choose, go to www.lucindaspoetry.webs.com

Although not part of the Cyber Monday special…  Lucinda’s book, “A Second Cup with Jesus” is a must-have!  I’m a little biased and like this book in particular because, well…  I got to help with it!  When Lucinda asked if I would like to write prayers to go with her poems, I was so excited and anxious to do that!  We hope and pray that this book will be a blessing to you.  It also makes a great gift.  ❤15211774_1849714728606322_459068675_n

Everyone needs a great devotional book – and I can’t think of a better one!  These poems & prayers will be a blessing.  It’s our prayer that God will speak to your spirit through them.  🙂

READ A BOOK DAY

TL 9-6 READ A BOOK DAY

9-6 BOOK IT

According to the Online Slang Dictionary, the term “book it” means to move very fast. But I could be wanting a room in another town for the night if I’m taking a trip – so I would have to “book it”. Isn’t slang fun… and confusing?

Well all of that nonsense was to introduce READ A BOOK DAY, which has nothing whatsoever to do with moving very fast or making reservations. This is a holiday that was began by a librarian, one we suspect was encouraging youngsters to read books. It was first observed at the end of the first decade of the 2000’s.

I take a book almost everywhere.  Books are the perfect entertainment:  no commercials, no batteries, hours of enjoyment for each dollar spent.  What I wonder is why everybody doesn’t carry a book around for those inevitable dead spots in life.  – Stephen King

Don’t feel pressured to read an entire book today, but hopefully this day will remind you to read a certain passage of a favorite book. Maybe this would be a good day to look at some of your favorite Bible verses or read from a book of poetry. My favorite poet is Lucinda Berry Hill. I use her devotional book, “Coffee with Jesus” every day.

I may be telling tales out of school, but there’s talk of a second cup of coffee with Jesus! Shh… don’t tell.

A SECOND CUP WITH JESUS
Some other ways to celebrate this day may be to volunteer to read to children or give a book to a children’s school library. How about hosting a book reading party. What ever happened to book clubs? When did we all get too busy to get together to talk about a book?

Times have changed but I must admit I miss the old days. These days we not only have print books but e-books as well. I’m sure they count on this Read a Book Day. The idea is to encourage reading, whether it’s fiction or non-fiction. Books open up a whole new world to young and old alike.

Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read.  One does not love breathing.  – Harper Lee

I hope you’ll take the opportunity to relax and read today. It’s good for the soul and mind. 🙂

VESUVIUS DAY

TL 8-24 VESUVIUS DAY

8-24 PLUG IN TO THE SOURCEToday is VESUVIUS DAY!!!  Italy’s Mount Vesuvius is in the Gulf of Naples.  It has erupted three dozen times since 79 AD.  It last erupted in 1944.  For more information go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Vesuvius

As awesome as God’s creation is, it’s more important for me to be plugged in to God on a spiritual level.  How do I stay plugged in?  Through prayer.

This is an analogy that has been used for years, but it’s effective so I’m going to use it again. If you wanted a couple of pieces of toast (oh, that sounds so good) but did not plug the toaster in before pushing the bread into the toaster, would you still get toast? If you answered “yes” I’d like to see you after class to hear your hypothesis.

If you have an older toaster, the bread will sit down inside the toaster and do nothing until you plug the toaster into the outlet. If you have a newer toaster like mine, the toaster will pop the bread back up, as if to say, “Hey, stupid, you have to plug me in before I can make this bread into toast – duh!” Yes, my appliances talk ugly to me. Bad, bad appliances!

So how do you expect to have any power in your life if you refuse to get with God in prayer and Bible study? Do you think all that stuff you learn on Sunday morning is enough to get you through the deep waters that come along in life. Do you not think there will be any deep water in life? Seriously???

Pray without ceasing, – 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Pray all the time. Ok, that doesn’t mean you have to spend every waking hour on your knees, but it does mean that you stay plugged in to the source of your power, strength, joy, peace, patience, loving kindness, gentleness, goodness, self-control. Wow – sounds like the fruits of the Spirit, right? Bingo! If you are not plugged in to the source – the trinity – Father, Son, Spirit – you can’t do life the way it’s supposed to be done. Yep, that’s what I said. An attitude of prayer – those little prayers that shoot through your mind all day long – they are heard by God through Christ. We pray those prayers all day – you know the ones, like, LORD HELP ME – you think He doesn’t hear it? Think again. That is an attitude of prayer. That’s how you stay plugged in to your source! Praise Him today! ❤

A great way to plug-in is to have a devotional book based on the Word of God. My recommendation is one by Lucinda Berry Hill called COFFEE WITH JESUS. It’s unique because it is her original poetry! Poetry, of course resonates with me. If you would like your own copy, please go to the link below. 🙂

Oh – and hey… there’s a rumor she has another book in the works – I don’t know whether I was supposed to tell ya – but I guess I spilled the beans!  I shouldn’t be listening to rumors anyway, right???

GREAT POETRY READING DAY

TL 4-28 POETRY READING DAY

I love the classics, don’t you?

GLORY TO MY PARTNER

On this crisp Spring Sunday morning, I’m more than a little excited!  Today I want to introduce you to one of my favorite poets, Lucinda Berry Hill.  Since today is GREAT POETRY READING DAY , I’ve asked Lucinda if she would share a bit about herself with us.  Her inspirational devotional book, “Coffee With Jesus”, has touched the lives of so many people, including mine!  So without further adieu, I introduce the very talented author, Lucinda Berry Hill.

*************************************************
I was born in Millbrook, NY. I currently live in Steelton. I have a 13 year old daughter named Charlotte. I was a single mom for 8 years. I married my husband, Charles and he adopted Charlotte. I’ve had a house cleaning business for over 25 years. I also do some relief care for full time caregivers. In between that and sometimes during I write!!
I started writing poetry when I was 12 years old. I hadn’t accepted Jesus as my Savior yet, but God used me anyway.  I wrote poems about and for Him now and then but it wasn’t until my mid 20’s that I started really writing for the Lord.I believe moving away from family and friends when I was 12 was my start in writing.  I had a sad heart then.  I met a girl who didn’t write poetry but she and her sister read a lot of poetry.  I can’t say that one person in particular inspires me.  It’s a God thing.  He brings people and circumstances into my life that touches me in some way and I have to write.  I’ve even written poetry about something I misread.  Someone said I will sing into you instead of unto you and off I went with a poem called “Into You.”I’ve had poems published in newspapers, read at weddings and at funerals. I’ve written poems about 9/11, the Oklahoma City bombing, the trapped minors incidents, the Sandy Hook school shooting and my most recent current event inspiration was the Boston bombings . I published my first book in 1997 my second one in 2001. And my third came out February of last year. Coffee With Jesus” is a weekly devotional. I used the poems that I’ve written and paired them up with the scripture that inspired them and came up with 52 weeks. I got the idea when a few people told me that they used my previous books as part of their devotional time.

Since the publishing of “Coffee with Jesus” I’ve written several more poems. Some with a touch of humor, inspired by a friend. I even have ideas for three more books.

We all know how important it is to keep our bodies and minds in good shape to maintain good health.  A part we too often ignore, however, is the spirit – the soul.  This wonderful devotional book will kick-start your day the way it needs to be – on a positive and upbeat note.  It’s better than just plain ol’ coffee, it’s “Coffee With Jesus”.  I hope you will check it out!!!  ❤
