PROVERBS 9:1 ON 9/1

TL PROVERBS 9 1 ON 9 1

Wisdom has built her house; she has set up its seven pillars.  – Proverbs 9:1

The wisdom of God is in the person of Christ Jesus.  He has prepared a church with patriarchs, prophets, apostles, pastors and teachers.  Have you ever heard the phrase “A pillar of the community” – ?  In the Southern Baptist church there are deacons.  In the Nazarene church there is a church board.  Every denomination has some degree of organization – they have to.  It’s definitely a good idea and based on biblical principles.

The church is built on Christ.  Christ Jesus is God’s wisdom.  If we claim Christ as our personal Savior, we have access to wisdom through the Holy Spirit of God.  Where is wisdom for decision-making found?  On our knees.  It’s that simple.

So much of the non-stop drama and less than enviable circumstances in life are self-inflicted.  How insane is that?  We just keep making the same bad decisions while expecting a better outcome!  When are we going to humble ourselves before God and seek His wisdom in decision-making?  What is it going to take?

EAR TICKLING PROMISES

Today I want to encourage you to pray about the upcoming 2016 election.  So many Republicans are angry and see one candidate as the one who will make all the frustration disappear.  But my Christian brothers and sisters, please temper all that frustration you feel with wisdom from God’s Holy Spirit.  I believe what we are hearing from this frontrunner is some ear tickling with little substance or common sense.

Don’t we want a president who will seek wisdom from God the Father regarding all of the decisions that must be made on behalf of our country?  I do not want a president who is so self-sufficient that he can or will not seek godly counsel or pray to the Father for direction.

There are many godly men running for office, some of them are not career politicians either.  I guess it’s not secret, I’m hoping and praying for a Cruz/Carson or Carson/Cruz ticket.  I believe they would take our country in the right direction.

I hear people say they won’t even think about the 2016 race until the choices get narrowed down.  I have an idea for us, though.  I think we should be praying about it now.  Who’s with me?

You know a little prayer for God’s wisdom never hurt.  🙂

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

TL A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART1

THE SANCTITY OF HUMAN LIFE

https://youtu.be/mDThDZMcOMM

My heart is broken concerning America’s views on life in general.

What you are will show in what you do.  – Thomas Edison

Dr. Carson offers common sense in the midst of insanity in America.  Can we just back the truck up for a minute and take a close look at something?  Just humor me…  k?

We see videos of dissected babies (it’s a baby – that is what I believe).  They are after certain parts to sell for profit.  They justify it by saying they will be saving another life with the poor life that was aborted (which I believe is murder).

I’m tired of the left saying that Dr. Carson is a hypocrite.  He never had anything to do with killing babies.  He is a Christian and totally pro-life!  He sees abortion for what it is – murder.

Jen Gunter, an obstetrician-gynecologist, wrote on her blog that in 1992 Carson co-authored an academic paper published in Hum Pathol, in which he described using material “from two fetuses aborted in the ninth and 17th week of gestation.”  OK, but anyone who wants to be a doctor has to deal with the dead – of all ages.  That’s how doctors practice before they move on to the living.  It’s called practicing medicine.

You have to look at the intent.  To willfully ignore evidence that you have for some ideological reason is wrong. If you’re killing babies and taking the tissue, that’s a very different thing than taking a dead specimen and keeping a record of it.  – Dr. Ben Carson

Get real, people!  The man’s a doctor – he had to deal with dead specimens of all ages to get through medical school…  good grief!  The deal is – babies should not be killed for the specific purpose of selling body parts for profit – which, by the way, is still illegal!!!  It may not remain illegal, but for today, it is.  It makes me angry that my tax dollars are going to Planned Parenthood.  If they insist on doing their evil procedures and selling the parts of babies they are “going to abort anyway” – at the very least they should be privately funded!!!

We see black people with signs that say BLACK LIVES MATTER.  I’m not disputing that fact, but it’s as though no other lives matter.  I thought every person born into this world was here to get along with every other person born into this world.  I mean, feel free to correct me if you think I’m wrong.  I’d like to know why most abortions take place in the black community.  Don’t the unborn black lives matter?

Maybe it’s a matter of how we view ourselves.  Are we color first in our own mind, or are we more?  For example, I see myself as a Christian first (my value system), a woman (my sex), then white (the color of my skin).  At times we place too much importance on the wrong characteristic about ourselves.

Every white person in the world is not under the impression that they are “better” than every black person.  If that is the mindset of black people, it’s incorrect.  My grandpa Frank used to say, “Folks are folks no matter where you go.”  That’s been my motto through life.  It’s true.  Regardless of the color of one’s skin, there are good folks and bad folks everywhere.

Life…  we are born how we are born.  I did not have a choice and neither did you.  If you are white and wish you were black – too bad.  If you are black and wish you were white – again, too bad.

Funny story…  the other day I was standing in line at the grocery store, behind an African-American woman with beautiful curly hair.  I instinctively reached up to “fluff” my own stringy-straight mane, thinking, “Oh, I wish I had hair like hers!”   Yes, there are days I’d like to be someone else – LOL!  I guess the secret is to be the best me I can be regardless of the DNA cards I’m dealt.

What does God say about us?  What does His Word say about how we are to treat one another?  If ever there was a time we need to embrace God’s Holy Word and live like we mean it – it is now!

God loves us – ALL OF US.  He does not have favorites and He does not see skin color, however, He most definitely sees our motives and our character.  He knows who loves Him and who does not.  If we claim the name of Christ in our lives, we have no excuse to insist that one life matters more than another.

It’s also my belief that we have no right to play God and decide to abort what God saw fit to create.  Babies are miracles – every one of them!  People may think they make babies.  I’ve got news for you…  if God was not a part of that process – you’d not make squat.  WORD.

PROTECT THE UNBORN.  RESPECT PEOPLE.  RESPECT LIFE.  LOVE EVERYONE.  🙂

USE LESS STUFF DAY

TL 11-20 USE LESS STUFF DAY

11-20 I DON'T NEED AS MUCH

As you know, I’m a conservative.  Yeah – not gonna change me.

Extremism is so easy.  You’ve got your position, and that’s it.  It doesn’t take much thought.  And when you go far enough to the right, you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.  – Clint Eastwood

Whether we’re talking about food, packaging or leaving the water running while you’re brushing your teeth (yeah, that’s a pet peeve of mine), it’s just smart to use less if you can get by on less.  A few things were drilled into my head growing up.  My daddy used to come into a room and if the light was on and nobody was in there, he would ask in his booming and authoritative voice, “WHO’S PAYING THE LIGHT BILL?”  Well – duh – HE was!

Out in the country we didn’t have a garbage disposal.  My daddy dug a big hole out in the back yard – near the back fence, where we dumped our garbage (banana peels and the like).

We had a septic tank so we could not use a lot of toilet paper at one time.  Yeah, that’s probably more than you needed to know.  Ah, the joys of country living!

It’s USE LESS STUFF DAY!  Honestly, we could all do a better job of conserving just about everything, couldn’t we?

http://www.use-less-stuff.com/

Conservation was the theme in the Turner household, yet we always had enough.  Waste of any kind has always made me just a little crazy and I suppose it’s because of my upbringing.  I’m not for a minute suggesting that we live on less than we need to have a happy and fulfilling life, but to drown in excess seems…  well – excessive and unwise.

I’m sorry but I just laughed my way through this video – speaking of excessive and unwise (might I add – STUPID).  There is not one item in this video that would enrich my life or make me happier than I am today without it.  I’m not tempted by any of it – but I think it’s fun to watch.

For those of us with normal bank accounts, we can find ways to conserve and preserve in order to make our money go further and it also helps the environment in some cases.  So many times it’s just a matter of putting thought into what you do.  If you have a light on in a room and you are in there and need to see, that’s fine.  When you get up and leave the room, it’s time to flip the switch off.  It seems like common sense to me.  The water does not have to run while you are actually brushing your teeth.  Turn it off until you are ready to use it.  It’s so simple, right?  Well…  we know common sense is not a flower that grows in everyone’s garden.

Speaking of gardens, does anyone remember canning everything from the vegetable garden back in the day???  When I was a kid, we not only had a vegetable garden, but fruit trees as well, so we always had fresh cherries, apples, pears and apricots.

The family that cans together, stays together!
The family that cans together, stays together!

Try being conservative – just for today.  Use less stuff and you might be surprised at what you can do without.  😉

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

TL 6-5 WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

https://youtu.be/kmyEmKLBrIg
Since common sense does not seem to be as common as it used to be, let me inject just a bit here today. On this WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY, let’s make an effort to do some thinking before we choose what we will eat. In the process, you may be pleasantly surprised at what you could save, both financially and for the environment.

Nearly one pound of food per American gets tossed away every day! That number nearly boggles the mind, but how can we be better stewards of what we receive? There are ways to stay on your diet and stop the waste of precious food.

1. If you’re eating at a restaurant, order off the kids menu if you know you won’t eat it all. There is absolutely no shame in doing that! Those scaled-down meals will be just enough to fill you up and you will have a happy plate. No waste of food!

2. Invest in a vacuüm sealer! If you keep meat in the freezer (and most of us do), the vacuüm sealed meat will stay good for a long time.

3. Don’t buy perishables in bulk. Well there’s a dose of “duh” for you. Unless you have a family of 15, there is no reason to buy things like fruits and vegetables in large quantities. These foods do not keep for a long time and will have to be tossed if not used up in a timely manner.

4. If you are cooking for one or two, make four meals at a time. If your significant other does not mind leftovers, cook double and save the extra for the next day. You’ve used the same amount of energy that you would have used for one meal, but you now have two meals.

Let’s take a trip to Colorado with John Coyote.  No waste there, right?

There are popular diet plans that encourage food waste to whittle your waist. The truth is, if you would just use common sense about portion size and not let your eyes be bigger than your tummy – you can eat just enough without waste! 🙂

NATIONAL ROCKY ROAD DAY

TL 6-2 NATIONAL ROCKY ROAD DAY

https://youtu.be/Uo4cuaSPpZA

Some special holidays are to be enjoyed with wild abandon, while others need to have a voice of common sense and moderation inserted. Let me be that voice. Today is NATIONAL ROCKY ROAD DAY!!!

Age does not diminish the extreme disappointment of having a scoop of ice cream fall from the cone.  – Jim Fiebig

On this date in 1929, Mr. William Dreyer came up with a new flavor of ice cream and it sold like crazy – Rocky Road! The texture and crunch of this ice cream became so popular and is still one of the biggest sellers that Dreyer’s carries. Something good did come from the Depression era, huh??? Rocky Road is traditionally chocolate ice cream, marshmallows and nuts. When Mr. Dreyer made that first batch of Rocky Road he used chopped walnuts, but now they use almonds.

Here’s where the voice of reason comes in. For just one cup of Rocky Road Ice Cream you get:

300 calories
16g fat
8g saturated fat
30mg cholesterol
90mg sodium
40g carbohydrate
34g sugar

So… maybe 1/2 cup would be a better idea. You can celebrate – you just can’t eat a lot of “real” Rocky Road ice cream. Obviously there are also low-sugar and low-carb varieties. There is a way around the dreaded WEIGHT BOMB!!!

Ice cream is happiness condensed.  – Jessi Lane Adams

If you eat too much “real” Rocky Road ice cream and you will find out what a rocky road REALLY is – especially if you are diabetic!  I don’t like it when my jeans suddenly don’t fit either.  You can only blame the dryer for shrinking them so many times.

Here’s the recipe for the real deal…  use responsibly.

6-2 ICE CREAM

Enjoy some Rocky Road ice cream in moderation today. It’s ok… don’t deny yourself. Just be smart about it. ❤

SIERRA CLUB DAY

TL 5-28 SIERRA CLUB DAY

On May 28, 1892 in San Francisco, California, the Sierra Club was founded. Today is SIERRA CLUB DAY!!! This grassroots environmental group has been one of the most influential in the country and is still going strong.

Don’t count the day done until you’ve made the day count.  – Dr. Thom C. Gibson

I like their motto – LEAVE NO TRACE. That of course means that when you go on an outing – you clean up and leave your site just as you found it. If you packed it and used it – pack it back up and take it with you. You don’t have to be a member of the Sierra Club to use that kind of common sense when it comes to taking care of the planet.

Don’t wait until Arbor Day to plant a tree. You can plant a tree now!

This falls under the heading COMMON SENSE – but when you leave a room – flip the light switch off behind you. Why keep a light on – or a TV on if you are leaving the room? Instead of cranking up the heat in the Winter or the AC in the Summer, adjust the amount of clothing you wear to get more comfortable.

Stay informed on the latest eco news. If you hear of a more green way to do things, maybe you should consider making some changes for the sake of the planet.

Ask yourself a question before you mindlessly toss something in the trash: Could this item be re-purposed or re-used for something? You might be surprised what you can do! I recently turned a gallon jug into a handy watering pitcher for my plants.

Do you throw your gum away in a trash can, or do you just spit it out the car window and let it land wherever? Think about how you dispose of your gum next time. Aside from the fact that someone might step in it, a bird would think the gum is a rock and swallow it. The gum then expands, killing the bird.

A few small changes made by all of us can make a huge impact. This is the only Earth we get – no backup Earth – sorry. 😦
