Today we celebrate CANDY CORN! The makers of this ultra-sweet treat will market the fact that it is fat-free, but make no mistake it is not healthy.
The belly rules the mind. – Spanish Proverb
If you decide to eat it, make sure it is in small portions, especially if you are diabetic. Here is how a nutrition label reads on a package of Brach’s candy corn:
Calories from Fat 0
Total Fat 0g 0%
Sodium 70mg 3%
Carbohydrates 36g 12%
For only 19 pieces you get a whopping 36g of carbohydrates and 32g of sugars, including corn syrup, honey and granulated sugar. That is literally a sweet treat to be sure! If you are passing a bowl that happens to have some candy corn in it, it’s fine to take a few in your hand, but if you are contemplating the purchase of an entire package, well, there are more healthy candy choices.
I do, however, suggest that diabetics and others who are counting carbohydrates have fun with the candy corn colors in other ways that will not play havoc on our health! Take a look at this:
Isn’t that cool? No weight gain and you can still make a fashion statement!
So you can have the nails and the make-up! You can become a candy corn instead of consuming them! How fun is that?
Now here’s a cute idea! Let’s make a few of these (and you can shoot rubber bands at people in the process – that’s a win/win). So now we can wear the nails, make-up and put a charm in our hair – well there ya go! Now we’re cookin’ with grease! OH… I found a candy corn bracelet!
If you are artistically inclined, this is a great challenge! I would be interested to see more candy corn sculptures like this. It’s interesting that it’s made with one serving of candy corn = 20 pieces (well, 19 + 1).
You get the idea – let’s take our minds off the eating of candy corn and put them on the fun colors and BE the candy corn! Just have fun with it. 😀
