SEPTEMBER IS BE KIND TO EDITORS AND WRITERS MONTH

SEPTEMBER IS BE KIND TO EDITORS AND WRITERS MONTH

Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any one thing.  – Abraham Lincoln

Look – we are not perfect (God knows…) and we don’t get it right every time.  We are so very human, but we have the nerve to be vulnerable and stand up to criticism every single time we put the pen to paper – or rather when we finally allow someone to read what we’ve written.  If you think that’s easy to do, think again.

9-1 GIVE WRITERS SOME SLACK

A certain amount of backbone is essential to be a successful editor or writer.  As an editor, you are charged with making the writer’s work sparkle!  Once in a while you encounter a writer who denies they need any extra sparkle from the editor.  :-/  It’s a wonderful blessing to work with an author who is open-minded to suggestions you make.  Editors do their best work when they work with a writer who is flexible about their work.  Developing a mutual respect as you work together is so important.

Whether it is a song, poem or the great American novel, keep in mind that a writer pours everything into what they are trying to convey to the musician or reader.  Cut them some slack and ask yourself if you could do a better job.  Actually, if the answer is yes, maybe you should give it a go.

There are so many wonderful Christian authors out there who work hard to provide the highest quality books available.  They also had some amazing editors who gladly gave their work some extra sparkle.

The neat part about Christian writers and editors is of course, they follow Christ and His principles for living.  That means the books are truly a labor of love and written with much prayer behind them.  I believe that matters, don’t you?

We write to and for God.  He is the source of inspiration and our writing is a way of affirming the inspiration He provides while sharing His loving kindness with others.

If you know a great editor or writer, give them a shout-out today!  I know a little blog does not seem like a big deal, but I still have to put an idea out there to be accepted or rejected – and nobody likes rejection or for their blog to be ignored and unread – it seems to be the ultimate waste of time.  It makes my day to see that fellow bloggers LIKE something I post.  I do a funny little happy dance.  No, I won’t post a video.

So – be kind to us because we’re really doing the best we can.  Thanks – and thanks for reading!  🙂

TELL A FAIRY TALE DAY

TL 2-26 TELL A FAIRY TALE DAY

My wife said she wanted a “fairy-tale romance,” so I’ve locked her in a tower.  – @TONYCOWARDS

Most of us grew up listening to fairy tales.  My favorite was “Jack and the Beanstalk”.  I imagined myself as Jack, climbing up the huge beanstalk that reached high above the clouds.  That’s really funny because in elementary school I was the kid whose feet could not leave the big knot on the rope when it was time to climb it.

There was an old woman who lived in a shoe.  She got her own TLC show.  The end.  – Ryan Anderson @KOLCHAK

Fairy tales take us to magical places where pixie dust flows freely and no one is ever cranky.  Sounds great, doesn’t it?  Oh, but I guess there were those few dwarfs in “Sleeping Beauty” was one of them cranky?  LOL – well I don’t remember – oh, I think it was grumpy.  Same difference…

So if we avoid grumpy we should be in pretty good shape.  Oh, but there was that Evil Queen chick – yeah.  Hmm…  this is sounding less like perfection and more like real life all the time.  What’s with that?

Cinderella’s fairy godmother turned her rags into a gown, mice into horses, and a pumpkin into endless lattes for her and her BFFs to enjoy.  – @THELAURENOBRIEN

There seem to be issues with all fairy tales.  Every one of them have something evil or malicious to be aware of.

I have never worked out the moral to Humpty Dumpty.  Is it, “Don’t let horses perform medical procedures”?  – Ricky Gervais

2-26 A FAIRY TALE

I’ll tell you my fairy tale…

Jesus and Me

Once upon a time, there was a happy baby.  She never cried but giggled all the time.  Her daddy said it was because she had gas, but it was because she was happy.  He should not buy into those old wives’ tales.  The baby laughed and giggled at everything.  She decided that nothing was going to make her unhappy.

One day in grade school she tried to read a book.  The letters on the page began to dance and it was very entertaining to the little girl, but she wanted to learn how to make the letters stop dancing so she could make sense of the book.  Her mommy and daddy enrolled her in something called special education.

The little girl paid close attention to the nice teacher and worked very hard with exercises and reading glasses.  She finally learned how to read the words by following them with her finger.  She didn’t enjoy reading at first, but the more she did it, the easier it got and the more she enjoyed it.

Nobody thought the little girl would graduate from high school, but she did!  She celebrated with all her friends and family, and her new best friend.  His name is Jesus.  Jesus helped the little girl with a lot of stuff that she could not have done by herself.

Jesus stayed with the little girl and helped her as she grew into a young woman.  He helped her land a really great job as an editor where she had to do a lot of reading.  Now the woman writes a blog for fun to encourage others to celebrate every day.

Jesus knew about the woman’s problem with reading, but nobody else did.  He will always be the woman’s best friend.

– The End

The Moral of the story is…  Jesus can help you overcome ANY obstacle you face!

Jesus cares and helps us with everything because He loves us so very much!  He is the great giver.  ❤

DATA INNOVATION DAY

TL 1-23 DATA INNOVATION DAY

The purpose of Data Innovation Day is to raise awareness about the benefits and opportunities that have come from the data revolution.  From education to transportation, virtually every state agency is looking to data to improve performance.

There’s a joke that goes…  There’s an APP for that!  Indeed there is.  No matter what you want to do with a computer, the technology is available to make it happen.  Are there more programs to advance our lives via technology?  Of course, we are always striving to improve, aren’t we?

I appreciate the advancements for businesses and government, but most people would like to know how this progress affects them personally.

We all know that progress is not always good, or we exchange something for it.  In the future, I wonder how much more of our personal information will be “out there” for others to get access to?  Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have anything to hide.  My life is an open book.

It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.  – Albert Einstein

I suppose the advances I have taken advantage of are the different “themes” I’ve used for my blog here on WordPress.  I won’t lie, the ones I used in the past have left me wanting something more, but this one is different.  I wanted color and variety from page to page.  This one is a keeper.  It’s just what I wanted!

The idea of progress is to make things easier and give us more choices online.  We’ve noticed changes in social media and in our local internet service – some good, some bad.  Sometimes you wonder who came up with that “brilliant” idea.  It’s not a compliment, but sarcasm.  I have earned a black belt in sarcasm.

We roll with change and get used to it because we have no choice.  It doesn’t mean we like it, but if we want to keep using our computer, we must learn to adapt.

Um…  a mental nudist colony???  No thanks!!!  🙂

Technology: “the knack of so arranging the world that we don’t have to experience it.”  – Max Frisch, c.1960s

As performance is improved in the business world, may we not forget that there is a real world out there to be experienced.  Take some time away from your computer today and call a friend or take a leisurely stroll.  Stay in touch with people and nature.  🙂

NO HOUSEWORK DAY

TL 4-7 NO HOUSEWORK DAY

https://youtu.be/QKwhJg6rozw
You have my permission to take the day off from housework! It is NO HOUSEWORK DAY, a great day to get outside and enjoy yourself. Ride your bike, wash your car, take a leisurely walk or take your dog to the park. Whatever you decide to do, make sure you take a deep cleansing breath and make a mental note – “I’m relaxing today!”

Some people say we make our own happiness – and I have mixed feelings on the subject. I believe God directs my path, but yes, I have a free will and can choose the activities I take part in. To that extent, I most certainly can decide whether I will take a break from work or not.

My second favorite household chore is ironing. My first being hitting my head on the top bunk bed until I faint. – Erma Bombeck

I’ve said time and again, I choose happiness! It is a decision I made a long time ago. Observing these wacky holidays and writing about them every day is part of my choice to be happy. See, I think it’s difficult to find a good reason to get out of bed in the morning sometimes. As strange as it sounds, these wacky holidays give me something to look forward to every day!

Check out this cute poem written by Lucinda Berry Hill:
4-7 A NO HOUSEWORK DAY
Some of the wacky days are really off the wall – but I think they are fun and I have enjoyed celebrating them – and celebrating life! Too many people fail to celebrate little things – and we all know that it’s the little things that make life worth living.

A towel-folding tutorial for men everywhere.  LOL!!!

Today I’m just going to read a book or watch a DVD or – hey, work on my blog! But I will under no circumstances do anything that resembles housework. This chick’s had it – at least for today.  Wink!  😉
