FALL IN LOVE WITH JESUS

The Light of Life… I like the sound of that!  Most of us take light for granted, don’t we?  We just flip a switch and Voila‘!  Instant light!  You know, light not only aids us in seeing what we’re trying to do, but it provides warmth too.  October in Kansas means that we won’t turn down a little warmth with our light, that’s for sure!  Our Lord is not only the light on our path, but He is also the wrap we wear on our shoulders as we walk.  He keeps us safe and warm!

May the blessing of Light be on you, light without and light within… ~Irish blessing

Light and warmth are welcoming to us.  You might even say we’re drawn to them.  You know, the other night I was walking up my driveway toward the front door and caught a glimpse of my green banker’s lamp glowing through the office window.  The green shade made the light particularly soft and more alluring.  I thought, “If I didn’t live here, I’d want to visit because this looks like a house where friendly people live!”   I was drawn to the soft green light!

When I think of this Scripture, a song comes to mind that I heard Aretha Franklin sing:

Walk in the LIGHT… beautiful LIGHT.  We’re goin’ the distance!  Jesus, the LIGHT of the world, will guide us through and provide warmth when our hearts are tempted to grow cold.  It’s a cold and harsh world we live in, but we are called to carry HIS light and warmth to others.

Light gives of itself freely, filling all available space.  It does not seek anything in return; it asks not whether you are friend or foe.  It gives of itself and is not thereby diminished.  ~Michael Strassfeld

What a wonderful analogy to describe Christ as the Light of the world!  He gave His all for us; became sin in our place even though He lived a sinless life.  Praise His name for He is worthy!

When our hearts are heavy and our bank accounts are anorexic, we find joy, peace, love, strength, courage, grace, mercy, and hope in the Light of the world, Jesus Christ, our personal Savior.  He loves us like no other.  Even if the world turns its collective back on you, He never will!

He never changes.  His laws are the same and His love is everlasting.  Lean on Him for answers to life’s toughest questions.  He is LIGHT and WARMTH.  🙂

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

It’s been a rough week…  physically and mentally exhausting!  We recently changed internet providers and have been unable to have the secondary account (that would be my account) added.  The account with our previous carrier has been suspended since the Friday before Labor Day.  I’ve been without access for a few weeks.  I think I’m experiencing a form of internet withdrawal.  Is there a support group for that?  I don’t think so, but I may start one!

Last Thursday a tech from our new provider came to set up our security system.  I asked if he thought he may be able to help me get that secondary account set up so I can get on the internet train once again.  He proceeded to tell me that he recently graduated from college with a degree in computer – and my countenance brightened immediately!  Hope renewed, I pointed out my sad little laptop and told him to have at it.

He asked if I had a Gmail account and I said I did (thinking that I definitely did NOT remember my password!)  He got my computer to use google chrome instead of internet explorer – and left the google logo where you search – displayed.  So…  I have a google logo where there once was Cafe Mahjong!  Is this progress?  Well…  maybe.

I was disappointed and a little angry.  They guy left and I’m still up a creek without a password.  I was actually shaking and I cried a little bit.  Does that help?  NO!  I calmed down some and went back upstairs, believing I’d play Bejeweled 2 for the rest of the evening.  Once I had calmed down, I looked at this passage of Scripture.  The words WISE, WISDOM, BOAST and KINDNESS, JUSTICE and RIGHTEOUSNESS jumped out at me.

Have you ever just got real with God?  I mean – at the end of yourself – at the end of whatever boasts you hear from others who claim to have the ability to help – at the end of it all?  I prayed that God would just calm my anxious thoughts, dry my tears and bring alternatives to my mind.  If God is ready and willing to do anything for us, it is to impress us with alternatives!   We serve a God with so many ways of solving problems – any problem!

God told me to talk to Lucinda.  He often tells me to talk with her!  Did I do that right away?  No – because Linda pride gets in the way…  I sat and argued and asked God to just tell me what I should do – He said NOPE – you need to talk to Lucinda.  So…  I got on facebook and shared my frustration.  She made it all better when she said – CAN YOU SET UP ANOTHER ACCOUNT?

Well – suddenly it was ALL BETTER!  I didn’t have to remember the password – or click on “forgot password” knowing that I didn’t have a working email address for them to send a code to!  I’ll just start all over again!  The weight of the world was lifted and I thanked God for such a good friend (even though right now I’m pretty sure she’s laughing through tears!)  It pays to trust God’s way of problem solving instead of trusting your own wisdom – or your college degree.

When we know God, we will not be stranded without the tools we need to solve problems.  Sometimes, the tools He uses is a friend – so don’t be too proud to be obedient when God tells you to seek assistance from a friend.  We need to remember – friends who are true friends will understand!  Friends are KIND.  Lucinda has always gone above and beyond for me.  I’m so thankful that God let our paths cross.  I’m cryin’ again, girl.  ❤

We really are here to help each other – the body of Christ.  Don’t let pride keep you from being obedient to God – and get the help you need in the bargain.  I hope and pray I’m as good a friend to Lucinda as she’s been to me.  🙂

PRAYERS & WISHES FOR THANKSGIVING

tl-thanksgiving-2016-11-12-thru-11-24There is so much to be thankful for…  and I have two more posts for Thanksgiving!  Decisions… decisions.  Today I am so very thankful for Warmth – and by warmth I mean not just the snuggly feeling of being in a coat on a cold day.  Warmth on the outside, yes – but also warmth on the inside.  I’m so very thankful for a sense of security and confidence because of a relationship with Jesus Christ.  I’m thankful for God’s joy and His peace that passes all understanding.

I am thankful for my new coat – and I have to show it to you:

new-image5It’s snuggly and warm – it resists moisture and the strong Kansas wind!  And…  it is TEAL BLUE which is my favorite color.  It was my mom’s favorite color too.  I also like to wear it on Friday for Blue Friday for diabetes awareness.  It was half price which cinched the deal for sure.  I’ll be toasty warm  this winter and for that – yes I’m very thankful for physical warmth and protection.  Oh, and by the way…  I know my hands are inside the sleeves.  Yes, I do have hands – but the coat is not a petite, so…  well – if you’re short, you understand.

In a spiritual sense, I feel very secure and God instills confidence in my soul every day.  There’s nothing like having God’s love, joy and peace within.  I know you know that.

Let’s take a moment to thank God for the warmth He give us – inside and out:a-poem-prayer-for-thanksgivingAs we acknowledge God in all our ways, He promises to direct our paths.  I don’t take those promises for granted, do you?  I take Him at His word and lean on Him for help every moment of every day.

When we ask God for things like security, acceptance, confidence, and peace…  He is faithful to answer those prayers – and it’s a different answer for each of us.  I think that’s great, and more proof that we are not robots, but were created by a loving God who knows just what we need and how to provide for that need!  I love how God answers our prayers.

Lucinda does too!

thankful-for-the-way-god-answersI wish for you answered prayers!  I wish you more of whatever it is you need.  I wish for you better relationships, and success in life.  I wish that more of your plans and dreams will come to pass if it is God’s will.  🙂

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

When Jesus walked this earth in human form, what was the last act of good will and fellowship?  It was THE LAST SUPPER.  Jesus ate with His disciples and attempted to explain the drama to follow, though they understandably did not comprehend what they were hearing.  I’m not quick to judge them – I’m not sure I’d “get it” either.

What have Christian churches considered tradition since the beginning of Christianity?  It’s a POT-LUCK DINNER.  Everybody brings a covered dish (preferably with food inside).  We stand in line after the church service, tummies growling and eyes enlarged as we carefully examine the good stuff we have to choose from.  We communicate and laugh and if somebody says they forgot or they think they should not stay – we talk ’em into stayin’ anyhow, right?  We tell them there’s plenty of food.

Nobody knows how to make good relationships into better relationships like the followers of Christ.  I believe that most people here in Wichita still believe that America is a Christian nation, founded on the values and principles of Christianity.  We love, we mentor, we pray for everybody (except maybe ourselves) and yep – we EAT TOGETHER.  We break bread and with true concern for our fellow person – we communicate and laugh and with a sincere heart, we try to listen to the views of everyone and come up with solutions when there is any conflict.  THAT is what we do.

I could not be any more proud of Wichita right now.  While race relations are escalating across the country, in Wichita, our officers are taking a cue from the Christian community around them.  They are meeting with the group Black Lives Matter at a cookout.  Food – the breaking of bread (and hopefully some hamburgers inside – and hot dogs) along with meaningful dialogue, communication on both sides which includes some listening – real listening, and I hope and pray some moments of levity – laugher perhaps.  We need to initiate some conversation that leads to some answers – not for one side or the other – but answers we can all LIVE with.

We all need to LIVE to our greatest potential – because LIFE is a precious gift and not to be carelessly taken by anyone.

Let’s all have conversations at a cookout.  Christ knew how to talk with His crew about serious stuff.  Christians know all about making good fellowship into great fellowship.  Please America…  stop the violence.  Instead, let’s have a real conversation at a cookout.  Talking, listening – and FOOD.  🙂

LUKE 11:10 ON 11/10

TL LUKE 11 10 ON 11 10

For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.  – Luke 11:10

What exactly is it that Dr. Luke means here?  I understand the word EVERYONE – and that’s a good start, right?  It means that includes you and me!  But I want to know more about the asking, seeking and knocking…  don’t you?

Dr. Luke wants us to know that God’s favor is ours if we will humbly ask, diligently seek and persistently knock.  It’s not a case where we can approach the throne of God and blurt out OPEN SESAME!  It doesn’t work that way… and it shouldn’t.

I’ve taken His precious grace for granted – but by the same token, I’ve forgotten the immeasurable POWER that God has – and it’s mine if I seek Him with my heart, soul, mind and strength.  I have such confidence and hope when I remember where my help comes from!

I believe David caught the essence of true discipleship in this poem.  We must travel the road of prayer every day.  Prayer is the way we stay on course in our daily lives.

Dr. Luke encourages us to ask, seek and knock – in that order.

Does it bring you comfort to know that Jesus walked where we walk – that He’s not just a Lord that can’t relate to being one of us?  He was part human – but He’s also divine.

It’s easier for me to ask, seek and knock when I remember that Jesus was part human while He was here.  Can He possibly relate – and care about one such as I?  He does.   He is our LORD and SAVIOR – but He’s also our very BEST FRIEND.

What are we waiting for, because surely God is there to answer when we ask, find us as we seek Him and come to the proverbial door when we knock.  It’s an act of humility, not pride – for we know without Him, we are nothing.  With Him, we are what we are supposed to be – what He wants us to be.  Let’s ask, seek and knock every day.  🙂

A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

TL A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART (31)

THE ANSWER IS GOD... WHAT WAS THE QUESTION

I love to hear children sing. They are so innocent and they just believe without a lot of pretense.

Maybe I really do have a childlike faith, but I believe that any answer to any question in life can be found if I pray and ask God for it. Am I over-simplifying it? Well, I find that prayer is the only way to answer some questions in life.

Let your search be for the Lord and for his strength; let your hearts ever be turned to him. – I Chronicles 16:11

It seems like I have new questions for God every day! Some questions drift from day-to-day and God will answer those in His own good time. That’s the thing about God – He does answer, but it will be in His time, but that’s okay because His timing is perfect. My timing is anything but perfect.

I seek His strength because I am so weak. I seek His wisdom because I am unwise.

Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness ! You have relieved me in my distress; Be gracious to me and hear my prayer. – Psalm 4:1

God is faithful and will answer my prayers. He calms my fears and comforts me when I grieve. He hears my prayers and knows my thoughts, my attitudes and the intentions of my heart. Nothing about me can be hidden from Him.

Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed. Then they were glad that the waters were quiet, and he brought them to their desired haven. – Psalm 107:28-30

For the most part my seas are calm these days. There were days when I was actually angry at God. I prayed for a baby and did not get one. I said prayers, but they were angry prayers filled with bitterness. I looked around at others who were given babies and I did not understand why I was denied. I still struggle with that some, but with age I have decided that my life will be different. I am not less of a person because I am childless. I am just different. God has His reasons for leaving me childless – grand-childless, etc. It’s my job to accept that. I’m left shrugging my shoulders and saying, “It is what it is – I’ll make the best of it.”

The answer is God. Prayer is powerful. You don’t have to sugar-coat prayer, and why would you want to? God knows your thoughts, your attitudes, and the innermost intentions of your heart. In this life you will hurt more than you ever thought you could. He knows you’re hurting. Be honest with God. He will see you through whatever it is you are facing. ❤
