A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

I understand the concept of adoption because, well – I was adopted.  I know that sometimes parents choose to keep that information from their children – then later in life the kids find out and it becomes a big blow out.  I remember the story being told to me in the form of a bedtime story at night – with the emphasis always being on how much I was loved – at first sight – and how I was chosen and was special to my parents.

There’s not much I remember about my mom’s funeral, but three things come to mind.  Everyone wore her favorite color (turquoise), there were the most beautiful black butterflies with turquoise on their wings, (a gift from God because I’d never seen them before), and I told a handful of people, “I was not spoiled, I was just sincerely loved.”

If you are saved, you’ve been adopted into the family of God – that’s for keeps.  A social worker will never visit your house and tell you that you have to leave the nest for any reason.  Once you are part of the family of God…  you are – on that you can be sure.  Speaking as a sister in Christ, I’ll do my best to sincerely love you with the love of the Lord.

I like this poem by Lucinda – MY INHERITED LIFE.

Through adoption, I was actually the child of my adopted parents.  I became a member of their family.  Nobody called me the adopted cousin – I was the cousin.  I may have even been the weird cousin, for all I know.  My point is, there was no distinction – except for the fact that everyone in my mother’s family was six-foot tall, and here I stand at five foot two and a quarter.  I can’t blame that on my adopted family, though, can I?

We don’t deserve Heaven, but because of God’s wonderful grace and mercy, we have inherited Heaven, and a great deal more!  So, we pray for stronger faith to trust God every day in this life, and we pray for courage and rest in the next life.  I’d rather trust His plan and be right than not trust His plan and be wrong, wouldn’t you?  Eternity is a very long time…

I keep seeing this on my facebook newsfeed:

Stop, drop and roll doesn’t work in hell.

You know, I’m betting it doesn’t.  🙂

NATIONAL MAPLE SYRUP DAY

TL 12-17 NATIONAL MAPLE SYRUP DAY

12-17 MAPLE SYRUP FLAVOR

Since we just have a few short days before winter officially sets in, let’s spend the day enjoying some real maple syrup!  NATIONAL MAPLE SYRUP DAY is the perfect time to enjoy and appreciate this delicious American treat.  Native American Indians were the first to harvest and boil the sap of the maple tree into a thick syrup.

It’s a common misconception that maple syrup is harvested at this time of year, but it doesn’t take place until late winter, from February through March, when the sap is flowing.  It’s recommended that maple syrup be poured over pancakes, waffles or on vanilla ice cream.  Some folks drink the sap straight from the tree!

When you buy maple syrup, make sure it is not pancake syrup – most syrups labeled pancake syrup do not contain any maple syrup.

I haven’t enjoyed “real” maple syrup for many years – so of course when I go into a restaurant and order blueberry pancakes, I have to request sugar-free syrup.

So – how do I plan to celebrate?  Oh – don’t worry – I have a plan!  I found the most wonderful flavored coffee at a cozy little boutique in Belleville, Kansas called “The Feathered Nest”.  It’s called GOOD MORNING MAPLE and when I pair it with some fat-free, sugar-free pumpkin flavored coffee creamer, it turns into Autumn Morning Magic in my coffee cup!  While everyone else is moving on to the scents and tastes of peppermint for winter and Christmas, I’m hanging on to my fall scents and tastes until it is officially winter – on the 21st.  I still have a few more days to enjoy the spicy flavors of maple and pumpkin!  I’m still using my pumpkin coffee mug.  I won’t rush the season.  I’m stubborn like that!

However…

I do admit that when I think of maple syrup, I think of Buddy the Elf…  yeah.

This is my favorite scene – I can stay???

And while he’s on a sugar high, the announcement that SANTA will be in the store is made.  I don’t like the OMG, but it is what it is I guess…  sigh.

Before that movie came out – maple syrup was totally autumn in my brain – ELF changed my way of thinking.  It’s like a really cool ADOPTION STORY…  sort of twisted, but cool.  LOL!  😀

If you are looking for a perfect Christmas gift, may I suggest a new devotional book by Lucinda Berry Hill?  Everyone needs a new devotional book to begin the new year!

PRO-LIFE DAY OF SILENT SOLIDARITY

TL 10-21 PRO-LIFE DAY OF SILENT SOLIDARITY

ABORTION QUOTE

If you met a pregnant woman who was considering abortion, what would you say to her?  While I would not want to judge her in any way because I am not walking in her shoes, I would like to be compassionate and kind as I listened.  I want to help her sort through the lie of the world and the truth of God’s Word.

I believe in families.  God had a good idea when He came up with that concept.  To accept abortion as an alternative is sad because it is basically embracing failure.  I know you think you will just get rid of the baby (the “problem”) and go on with your life, but it’s really not that easy.  That fetus is a part of you.  Please don’t buy into the lie that once the baby is aborted, life will just pick up where it left off.

It’s bad enough to miscarry a baby – believe me.  I think about those babies every day.  I know how old they would be and I know that now I would surely be a grandma.  But no…  it just was not meant to be.

Maybe I feel so strongly about Pro-Life because of the losses I’ve suffered.  I don’t understand why a woman would CHOOSE to kill a fetus (which is a life – because life begins at conception).  I’m sorry but according to God’s Word it is murder.  Last time I looked, that was listed in the Ten Commandments.  And no, I am not going to preach to the pregnant woman considering abortion.  I just want her to know all the facts.  To take a Pro-Choice stand is to be very selfish.  Whose life are you ending and whose life are you saving?  Life is a big deal to God – the biggest of deals!

I do not hate you for weighing your options.  I do pray for you and for the life you have been blessed with.  There is a lie in the Pro-Choice camp that wants you to see this as a choice for freedom.  If you kill this child, you will be tighter bound than ever.  It’s a choice that will haunt you for the rest of your life.  That’s not a lie – that is the real truth.

Have your baby.  Please consider adoption.  Let another couple raise and give that baby everything that you are not prepared to give it.  Adoption is LOVE.  Abortion is HATE.

I’m so thankful my birth mom chose ADOPTION.  May God help you choose LIFE for your baby.  ❤

NATIONAL DAUGHTER’S DAY

TL 3-9 NATIONAL DAUGHTER'S DAY

AN ADOPTION STORY

I’ve not started writing yet and my eyes are filled with tears. Today is NATIONAL DAUGHTER’S DAY and all day I have read the most heartwarming posts from mothers and daughters on facebook. It’s been my practice to pray and ask God to pass messages along to my parents. Don’t laugh – He’s God. Do you really think that’s completely absurd? I don’t – and if the belief that my messages get passed on keeps me happy and healthy and sane, then what’s the harm anyway? Once I’m reunited with them in heaven it won’t matter one way or the other, will it?

There’s only one way I can mark this special day, to write a poem about it. The day I went to live with the Turner family was the beginning of my very blessed life. The older I get, the more blessed I feel for having been their little girl. They did not spoil me, but they just loved me so very much. We spent so much time laughing and singing together. I felt as though I was on vacation every day of my life.

When I was 18 I decided to get a copy of my adoption papers. I was not unhappy with my life, but rather I was curious about things. I had a long talk with my parents before I drove to the courthouse. I wanted to make sure they knew I was not looking to replace them (like I ever could). It was a matter of curiosity and nothing more. Once I got my papers, I began to be even more grateful to God for the life I was given.

I apparently had 9 siblings and my birth parents were not educated. They had given up the last 5 of the 9. My birth mother was well over 40 years old when I was born and I suspect that is why I have a learning disability. My sweet mother was very savvy. She is the one that realized that if I could learn to read music, I could apply the same principles to learning to read words. She should have written a book about it. It’s fascinating how well that theory of hers worked!

I love my parents and I am a devoted daughter – even now.

SANCTITY OF HUMAN LIFE SUNDAY

TL SANCTITY OF HUMAN LIFE SUNDAY

LIFE IS A PRECIOUS GIFT

Oh Father God,
I ask you today to please comfort those who have walked through abortion. You know their heartache, and their story, and you are so merciful to give us all new life. We are all sinners here, and we are desperate for your love and forgiveness. We know that nothing can separate us from your love, and we long to see hearts restored to you. Please let these precious women know that they belong to you, and that you long to heal their hearts. If there is a way that we can help another woman and point them to you, please give us the opportunity, Lord. We long for everyone to see you as you are. We praise you Father for the mighty work you are doing in lives today. We thank you for your Son, and the love He showed us on the cross. Please help us to show that love to others and share the words of life and truth with them.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

This is the most difficult blog post for me to write. I will do my best and I’ve prayed, so God will help me. The first thing I want to say is, if you are a woman who has felt grief after an abortion and you feel guilty and are unable to find peace in your life, talk with God about it. Don’t think that He is unapproachable because you’ve gone beyond His grace. He weeps with you for the choice you made. He will send comfort to you and in turn you can help others in similar circumstances.

In the Holy Bible, New Testament, book of James, chapter 2 verse 13(b) it says:

MERCY TRIUMPHS OVER JUDGMENT!

This post has nothing to do with judgment! The Bible is clear, it’s not my job to judge anyone, ever.

I thank my heavenly Father every day that my birth mother did not choose to abort me, for obvious reasons. God has a purpose for my life. While it’s true I won’t be a mother or grandmother, I am a wife and there are still some tasks left for me to do down here on the planet. Life is precious. It matters. God thinks it’s a big deal. He gave it to us.

If you find yourself in a situation where you are considering abortion, I would invite you to think about adoption instead. If you are killing an innocent baby because you cannot afford to raise it, then please, let someone else raise it! I know that women want the right to choose and all that, but what about that child’s right to be born? There’s a reason for everything, and you are not the one who gets to decide what that reason is!

I have five babies in heaven along with my parents and a lot of other relatives. I’ll have a really big welcoming committee waiting for me when I get there. I understand how fragile life is. It is something to be celebrated. So on this Sunday, we take some time to celebrate LIFE.

No, not the cereal. Wise guy! Laughter is my defense mechanism. ❤

THANKS LIVING DAY 38

TL THANKSGIVING

PRAYER ABOUT PETS

On this Thanksgiving Eve I am spending time with my family. Casey has over 100 toys in his toy box, but one is special. About five years ago, we took a trip to Minneapolis, MN to visit the Mall of America, the largest mall in the country. Of course both our jaws dropped when we walked in and took in the size of the place – it’s simply astounding!

There is a store at the mall that sells novelty items for pets. We found a unique toy for Casey – it’s a duck. When you squeeze it or drop it on the floor, it quacks – not just once but about three times in a row! Do you think we were crazy for buying it? Oh – probably, but it was for our Casey, so we had to get it!

I’ve kept scrapbooks for Casey like other moms keep scrapbooks for their children. Sometimes I joke around that this is actually Casey’s house and he’s just letting us hang around as part of his pack. He calls the shots and yes, I do believe he is just a little spoiled.

Every dog has their own unique personality and Casey is no exception. He knows how to push our buttons, that’s for sure. I hope we are blessed to have him around for a long time. We’ve had a couple of scares with cancer and some arthritis, but in people years he is over 80. I hope I’m doing as well as he is when I am 80+.

Thank You, Lord, for our Casey. He brings happiness into our lives. ❤

BROTHER & SISTER DAY

TL 5-2 BROTHER & SISTER DAY

https://youtu.be/-7wShLovZ6Y

Today is BROTHER AND SISTER DAY!!!  Well, I was adopted and raised an only child.  I’ve made half-hearted efforts to search for siblings using facebook, but have not had any luck.  I never moved from Wichita.  If someone in my birth family wanted to find me, it would not have been that difficult.  Today is the day to show your love and appreciation to those people who are not related to you, but you feel closer to than any blood relative.  If I had to live my life over again…  I would not change a thing!  I was (and am) so blessed in my life and have made so many great friends!

As I was searching for Mintons, I met a very nice man named John Minton.  Even though he’s not my brother, he really is because he’s a Christian. I’m so glad I made a new friend!  John is a terrific singer and he makes YouTube videos of his adventures in the wild.  He loves nature and is most comfortable outdoors.

The friends I have on facebook are more like family to me.  Between the Diabetic Online Community (DOC) and assorted special groups I joined, I feel as though I am part of a very large family!  God has put so many neat people in my path, and it is my personal mission in life to be as encouraging to them as possible.

In my effort to encourage others, a very strange thing happens…  I find that I am the one who walks away feeling strengthened and encouraged!  Iron sharpens Iron.  Friends are so very important, aren’t they?

God Bless you, my Christian brother!!!

Have a very happy Brothers and Sisters Day!  🙂
