PHYSICAL WELLNESS MONTH

TL APRIL IS PHYSICAL WELLNESS MONTHIf it was easy everyone would be a size 2…  that’s what everyone says.  Nowhere in the Bible do I see a verse in the Beatitudes that says, BLESSED ARE THE HEALTHY, FOR THEY SHALL LIVE FOREVER.  Life comes with challenges – some are emotional, some are mental and yes, some are physical.

I’m facing the challenge of my life.  I recently got my A1c checked – it’s a 3 month average of blood glucose levels.  It’s gone up again – now I’m at 8.3.  It should be under 7.  My doctor asked questions about my eating habits and I admitted my love of fruits and vegetables.  I like goldfish crackers and have little pouches which provide portion control.  I don’t eat more than one a day – honest.  But those little golden beauties are 28 g. of carbs so I can’t keep eating them every day.  I have to give up many fruits that I love – and can’t have fruit juices, even low sugar brands.

The thing that my doctor emphasized to me was that no matter what dietary adjustments I make, the most important thing I can do to regain my health is EXERCISE!

UGH…  the dreaded “E” word again…  but I hate it – I hate to exercise!  I’d so much rather get up in the morning and waddle to the bathroom and make a beeline for the coffee pot.  Do not pass GO, do not collect $200 – go straight to the coffee pot.  🙂

It’s no longer an option – it’s a necessity.  I keep wishing I had a partner in crime…  somebody to say COME ON, LET’S GO!  Some enthusiastic voice beside me, saying, LINDA, YOU ARE WORTH SAVING AND HERE I AM TO HELP YOU – TO WALK WITH YOU AND TALK WITH YOU ALONG THE WAY.

I’m taking the largest dose of Metformin, Glipizide and 40 Units of Levemir every night.  I have to bump up the amount of insulin, which means I’ll have to buy pens sooner – and that is hitting my budget in a BIG way.

I’ve hit the proverbial brick wall – head on – this is it – I have to decide if I’m going to do this or if I’m going to pay out upwards of $400 a month for insulin.

Note to self:  SUCK IT UP, BUTTERCUP!  You have absolutely no choice.  Get out of this bed and put on your walkin’ shoes – get out there!  It’s a beautiful day – and yeah, you’ll walk alone, but you have no choice.  You just gotta do it.

So…  from now on, my routine will be get out of bed, waddle to the potty, waddle to the closet and put on my walkin’ clothes and head out the door – get it done while I’m still half asleep, right???  When I get home I can then waddle to the kitchen, fix breakfast and brew the coffee!

I can do this…  I CAN.  I WILL.  🙂

NATIONAL DOODLE DAY

TL 2-5 NATIONAL DOODLE DAYWhat a fun way to support a great cause!  Research on epilepsy is not cheap – no research is…  but I hope you will go to this link today and read more about NATIONAL DOODLE DAY!!!

http://doodle-day.epilepsy.org.uk/

Do you doodle???  I do!  Did you know that what people doodle and where on the page they doodle it can tell you what they’re like and where their special talents lie?

I draw stars all over my paper during board (bored) meetings.  I begin at the top of the page and work my way down the page – my stars are small and in a perfect row.  I also color in the letters on the page – I have no idea what that means.  :-/

Stars: Stars are often drawn by ambitious people. Lots of little stars indicate optimism. If you’ve drawn one big, bold, embellished star, you’ve got a definite goal in your sights.

I try to see the good, the positive side of things.  I draw lots of little stars.  I’m optimistic – yay!

My husband draws boxes – and I’m impressed because they’re so detailed in nature!  They are 3-D and shadowed in the right places.  What does that mean?

Boxes: A cube or box indicates you’re likely to be a very efficient, analytical person who can deal with difficult situations with  little fuss.

That describes him to a tee.  He is not in any way spontaneous, but has to think everything through and weigh it before taking action.  He does deal with difficult situations with little fuss.

Other popular doodles include:

Faces:  If the face is attractive, the person drawing it is probably in a good mood and feeling well.  If the face is ugly or distorted, the person drawing it is probably frustrated or upset in some way.

Flowers:  Drawn flowers are a sign of someone with a sunny, happy personality who likes to look on the bright side. That is, as long as the flowers aren’t wilted!

Letters:  Big block letters mean that the person drawing wants to be the center of attention.

Eggs:  This may indicate that the person drawing has a need to settle down, or “nest”.

While what you draw is telling, did you know that where on the paper you draw it says something too?

If you doodle on the TOP of a page, it indicates that you are always in control, confident, assertive and strong-minded.

If you doodle in the CENTER of a page, it indicates that you enjoy being the center of attention and are extroverted.

If you doodle on the RIGHT SIDE of the page, it indicates a longing to travel in order to escape a current relationship or situation.

If you doodle on the LEFT SIDE of the page, it indicates that you are one to dwell on the past and what may have been.2-5 MY DOODLE BUG

COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

TL A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART (30)

BLACK FRIDAY

Well, it’s that wonderful time of year again.  Oh, I don’t mean Thanksgiving (or as I like to call it, Thanksliving), but the day after…  the one day of the year when all the crazy people gather in malls and shopping outlets across the country for one express purpose… to get the bargain!  Black Friday has arrived!!!  Woot!!!

It just seems strange to me that we take a day to be thankful for all of our many blessings – then the next day (for some people, that very evening), the thankfulness gets replaced with a feeling of discontentment again.  I’m so confused!  If we’re so thankful, then why do we think we have to jump into that madness?  Ah… to get the perfect Christmas gift, right?  Well, give it up – there is no such thing as the perfect Christmas gift!  Perfection is highly over-rated, and quite frankly, a tad boring!

Some people will burn calories working out at the mall. They reason that surely the pounds will melt away as they scurry around frantically, raising their blood pressure and stressing themselves out in the process. It also gives the budget a workout. I know there are sales, but you’ll still spend money.

So, kudos to all the shoppers out there…  may the bargain fairy be with you!  But I think I’ll just keep my body busy a different way today – and maybe I’ll burn just as many calories and still have some money left over! Yay!

It takes a special brand of stupid. And I think if I hear one more OMG I will scream. Really not diggin’ on that phrase and it is everywhere. Please expand your vocabulary horizon beyond the OMG’s, people. I think this is what they call mob mentality. It’s a bit disturbing to say the least. Where are people’s priorities? We act like this with each other just to get the perfect Christmas gift for someone at a bargain price? Okay – let’s think about that thing. First of all, I don’t think the prices are all that great. Secondly, you push and shove and yell and curse at your brother in the name of Christmas (using Christ’s name in vain) and then at Christmas we speak peace to one another? Yeah, right – I got that. 😦

Before you walk out the door, make sure to do a few warm up stretches. Practice smiling and saying, “Excuse me, pardon me, oh, I’m so sorry, was that your shopping cart?”

Please shop friendly!  🙂
