I’m one of the lucky ones. I was blessed with the kind of skin that will not tan in the summertime. Nope, I go straight from lily-white to lobster red! Do not pass “GO”, do not collect $200 – go directly to Lobster Jail! I have a truckload of Aloe Vera gel beside the gauze bandages – and I know how to use them. My poor burned skin needs immediate relief and nothing takes the sting out of a burn quite like Aloe Vera gel.

Have you ever done your best and been misunderstood? The best of intentions do not guarantee the best results. The sooner you can forgive wrongs done to you the better. Making allowances for others is part of Christian maturity. We all have off days and can come across as rude or insensitive at times.

For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. – Matthew 6:14-15

Whether you are angry or have hurt feelings, forgiveness is essential for true healing to take place. I think of these times as strength training. Much like a person trains physically, we as Christians need to make sure our relationships with others remain good so our relationship with God can be the way it should be.

Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. – Matthew 5:11-12

Sometimes we are insulted or more often “teased” because of our faith in God through Christ. It seems unfair and unjustified, but it’s at those times we need to rise above it and show God’s love in return. Many times we are jabbed with a stick just to see what we’re really made of. We get tested like that by non-Christians. Our witness needs to be at its best then because non-Christians don’t understand what we’re about, and we dare not blow our witness. Take it – then run to Jesus for His Aloe Vera gel. He will apply it to the burns you’ve suffered.

Man has two great spiritual needs. One is for forgiveness. The other is for goodness. – Billy Graham

We all need the Aloe Vera of God’s love. That’s why it’s so important to have daily quiet time with the Lord. God covers us with His love and forgiveness so we can share His love and forgiveness with others. ❤

My cat is so independent.  He does not jump up on my lap every time I invite him.  This morning for ANSWER YOUR CAT’S QUESTIONS DAY, he asked me why I can’t say no to people as easily as he says no to me.  Good question!

I have a problem saying NO.

I say YES when I so desperately want to say NO. It has happened a few times in different churches. If it’s not something in the music department, it is a teaching position that needs to be filled. I get hooked in, and once you are there, you have to be dependable and reliable in your duties.

Joy is the holy fire that keeps our purpose warm and our intelligence aglow.  – Helen Keller

Without a true JOY and passion for the job you do, you will either do a half-hearted job or find excuses to not do it at all. No one deserves that kind of worker in a church. Whatever job you take on in the body, make sure you do it to the very best of your ability. Be dependable and reliable. Do what GOD has called you to do. It’s His approval that matters, after all.  JOY = JESUS FIRST, OTHERS SECOND AND YOURSELF LAST.

It’s not fair to tell someone you will do something when your heart is screaming NO with every fiber of its being! Be honest and sincere in your response. It’s really the right thing to do for all concerned. The right and honest response is, “Thank you for asking me. Would you please give me some time to pray about it?” That buys you time to think and pray instead of beat your head against a post because you said YES when you should have just taken some time to ponder and pray about the added responsibility. And yes, you do need to ask GOD what you should do. Don’t get caught up in the rationalization that you don’t have a career, a job, kids, grandkids or anything else that takes your time, so maybe you should do this. Huh-uh. If GOD says DO IT – then… yeah – DO IT!

I used to be a member of the club of Christians (a large club) who thought that God would strike us down with lightning if we said NO.  Maybe it’s because I’m getting older, but I’m no longer a member of that group of unhappy Christians.  I won’t be renewing my membership this year.  It has finally dawned on me that I serve God – not people.  My people-pleasing ways of the past are over.  For years I fell in this trap – do what others want me to do and be their very good friend.  Then when I show a little backbone and initiative – begin to let them know I no longer want to do what they want me to do – and suddenly, I am no longer their friend – hmm…  funny how that works!  Not ha ha funny – sad funny.

Know this… when you give an insincere answer without at least praying about it, you have basically lied. To lie is a sin, and sin needs to be forgiven. So before you get your nose out of joint with someone who has backed you into a corner, you’d better seek their forgiveness for agreeing to take on a job that your whole heart was not in to begin with. You should just say NO and let your No… be NO!

On the farm, it seems that honesty is second nature and a big part of honesty is granting forgiveness. It’s a simple life that demands little more than the golden rule. Just treat everyone the way you’d like to be treated. So why is that so difficult in some circles?

Today is WORLD FORGIVENESS DAY, and how much true forgiveness needs to happen in our world?  In our country?  In our state?  In our city?  In our community?  In my heart?

Ah – now we get down to the nitty-gritty – my heart.  If I do not forgive others their trespasses against me, God can not forgive my trespasses against Him.  I know these things yet I hold on to grudges and hurt feelings.  Until this head knowledge reaches my heart, it’s just more information I have stored that is of no use until acted upon.
I have to let it go – and pray every day that God will help me not ever take it back again.  How much happier would I be without any grudges or hurt feelings?  What if I could look back on the past and not feel like a knife is twisting in my back?  How great would that be?
I need God’s forgiveness for some pretty awful transgressions.  In order to get His forgiveness and be clean and fit for eternity, I need to forgive some folks and ditch some sinful behavior.  No, I’ll never be perfect – no one will.  That’s not to be an excuse for sinful behavior.  We don’t compare our lives to others, we compare our lives to the standard set by God Himself.  When I look at my life in the light of God’s Word, I am lacking.
I need to forgive others so God can forgive me.  So on this special day, I’m letting it go and embracing the freedom that only comes from good clean living and a clear conscience.  Oh, and God forgives me – hope you do too.
What are my sins?  Well – that’s ‘tween me and my maker.
When sins are confessed, there needs to be a change.
