HAPPY HALLOWEEN

TL HAPPY HALLOWEEN 10-31One of the oldest ghost stories around is the story of Theorosa.  Have you heard of Theorosa’s Bridge in Valley Center, KS?  I grew up just a few miles from there.  You can stand on the bridge and summon the ghost of Theorosa – or so they say.  Stand on the bridge and call out …  THEOROSA… THEOROSA..  I HAVE YOUR BABY.  They say if you say that 3 times in a row, she will appear.  I would not go there alone…  especially at night.   Jus’ sayin’…theo-900x456

Theorosa’s Bridge was originally made of iron and wood. It burned down in 1974 and was then rebuilt. In 1976, fire again destroyed the structure and it was closed for 15 years.  It used to be a pretty ol’ bridge.untitled

In 1991 the road leading up to Theorosa’s Bridge was reopened and the bridge was rebuilt as a concrete structure.  I took a few photos for my own archives and to share with you today.

I caught some images of a pretty field close to the bridge:img_1550img_1549Most of our trees still have green leaves.  A few are just beginning to turn though.  It finally stopped raining every day, so maybe it will dry up now and get a little cooler.  We’ve had temperatures in the 90’s during the day with cooler temps in the morning.  It’s sweater weather, but not quite time for hoodies.img_1544img_1541img_1542img_1543

Sadly, the new concrete bridge lacks the character of the old iron one.  It’s functional; however, the profanity and other graffiti that covers every inch of it, frankly embarrasses me.  People from all over the country come here because of the legend and to experience paranormal activity.  For them to see such a disgraceful sight makes my heart sink.  I suppose I can rest easier knowing the words are at least spelled correctly.  Well, most of them…  lol.

Gather ’round boys and girls.  I’m going to tell you the story of Theorosa.

Theorosa was a Native America woman.  According to the legend, she and a white settler had an illegitimate baby.  Theorosa felt such disgrace and shame that she dropped the baby into Jester Creek and drowned it.  Then Theorosa was so overcome with grief and felt so guilty about killing the baby, she hurled herself into the water and drowned.untitled-2Theorosa can be heard crying at the bridge sometimes.  Don’t tell her you have the baby or she will come up out of the water and attack you!  Balls of light float over the bridge.  Sometimes cars stall or shake while parked on or near the bridge.  People have reported feeling cold spots and they say the weather conditions are drastically different at the bridge than anywhere else in the area.

I don’t have any unusual or peculiar happenings to report personally – but – I was there in broad daylight.  It was not Friday the 13th, but a day much like other autumn days in Kansas.

If you decide to cross Jester Creek on Theorosa’s Bridge, you’d better not do it alone.  In our modern world, of course…  you take your video camera – and post the results on You Tube!  Well, DUH!

Here are some You Tube videos I found:

I did find this account online, if you dare to read it.  LOL!  http://www.angelsghosts.com/theorosas_bridge_ghost_story

Well – it’s a fun story to tell anyway…  have a happy Halloween!  🙂
