It’s not an obsession my husband will ever understand. I think I might begin to worry if he did, to be honest. It’s the love affair I have with my lipstick. Most women never leave home without it. Our lips must never be left uncovered.
Just for fun, I counted the tubes of lipstick I have in my vanity, in my car, in my handbag and the stray tubes of beeswax I have also grown to depend on. Lets just say if you count up the cost, you could more than likely pay off the national debt with money to spare. Am I addicted? Well, that’s a matter of opinion, but I do begin to shake violently if I discover I’ve run out of lipstick and can’t get to any fairly quickly.
Men don’t understand, but women have to get a shade that goes with every outfit they wear. There are some women who are happy with one shade and they wear it and call it their “signature shade”. Good for them and I wish I was that disciplined. I’m not. I like variety and have to change my shade, like a chameleon of sorts.
Sorry, it’s a result of training by my mother. Hey, I’m just now breaking out of the “HANDBAG AND SHOES HAVE TO MATCH” rut. Baby steps.
“A girl can’t read without her lipstick.” -Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s
This is the quote that inspired the poem. Audrey Hepburn was my favorite actress. She was a real lady and so very beautiful! Such a talented woman who inspired millions. She was just as lovely on the inside as she was on the outside. There will not be another like her.
I may take some time to watch “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” today. Her movies are timeless and classic, just like her! ❤
