A COMMENTARY FROM THE HEART

God’s Word tells us that if we were to stop singing praises to Him, the stones would cry out. I’m not making that up – not really!

“Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it.’” Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them. As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?” They replied, “The Lord needs it.” They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road. When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!” “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” – Luke 19:30-40

This portion of Scripture reminds me of a line in a song from “Jesus Christ Superstar” and I believe it’s called “Hosanna”.  It’s on You Tube so go over there and watch it.  Anyway the lyrics go something like this:

Crowd
Hosanna Heysanna Sanna Sanna Ho
Sanna Hey Sanna Ho Sanna
Hey J C, J C won’t you smile at me?
Sanna Ho Sanna Hey Superstar

Caiaphas
Tell the rabble to be quiet
We anticipate a riot
This common crowd
Is much too loud
Tell the mob who sing your song
That they are fools and they are wrong
They are a curse
They should disperse

Crowd
Hosanna Heysanna Sanna Sanna Ho
Sanna Hey Sanna Ho Sanna
Hey J C, J C you’re alright by me
Sanna Ho Sanna Hey Superstar

Jesus
Why waste your breath moaning at the crowd?
Nothing can be done to stop the shouting
If ev’ry tongue was still the noise would still continue
The rocks and stones themselves would start to sing:

Crowd, with Jesus
Hosanna Heysanna Sanna Sanna Ho
Sanna Hey Sanna Ho Sanna
Hey J C, J C won’t you fight for me?
Sanna Ho Sanna Hey Superstar

Hands up all who sing praise and worship songs in the car while you’re driving. Yeah, me too. It’s okay as long as you don’t close your eyes, ‘cuz I mean – you’re driving.

Don’t stop singing God’s praise! He’s worthy of praise and He inhabits the praises of His people. And when you praise God it helps you as well. Nothing can stomp out a bad mood better than singing praises to God. It gives you an attitude adjustment. If you need an attitude of gratitude, sing praises to God – gratitude will follow! 🙂
